      That's why I love the old PS1&2 era controls. It took me multiple games to really learn them. But once I did, it was permanent. Going back to those games is like riding a bike. It may take a moment for the muscle memory to kick in, but it always does. And then I make my AC dance better than I can in real life.

    Baltaus was a Roadbump which took a good handful of resets to learn, but Sea Spider... Gah...
    It taught me how to make use of the Boost Kick and to make use of the other shoulder Weapons other than Missiles. That Kinetic was king for staggering this damn bot and making sure to keep spacing when and where needed.

    Since you asked about how the story holds up in older games, I've actually done a very thorough explanation of what the overarching story of AC is in case you're interested in knowing how it ties all the games together. You can find the video right here: (Warning, it's contains major spoilers if you haven't played all the AC games, but it's very hard to understand or explain the "Core Theme" of AC without explaining how the stories of all of them tie together)

    The lore really surprised me with how invested I became in it, especially since it's so dialogue driven. I was actually much more invested in this story than that of Elden Ring or any of the souls games. It really felt conflicting to choose one path over the other in this game, and it motivated me to do the 3 playthoughs necessary to see the different endings and all the missions. Some have knocked this game for being a bit short, but I think it's great nonetheless. Cuphead was short too and that's one of the best games ever made.

    What I really enjoy about this video is that it encapsulates my thoughts on Sea Spider and why the chapter is so short. Both it and the Smart Cleaner as basically remixed versions of Juggernaut and Balteus that test how you beat those fights originally, and the lessons you took away from it. Both Balteus and Sea Spider are beaten in the assembly, but if you didn't struggle with Balteus because of the right build or took away the wrong lesson, Sea Spider will hit you with the exact same problems again.
    This way From can be very confident that you know your way through the assembly process and have come to a decent understanding for a variety of gear as well as their strengths and weaknesses.
    Just in time for chapter 3 to up the difficulty by slowly replacing normal MTs and generic weapons with their noticeably stronger PCA counterparts as well as LCs which give generic grunts access to AC-level weaponry on a decently agile frame.

    AC 4A will always be a staple of me and my brothers childhood. To draw the parallels is only fitting. The lovers of that game will, to this day, be the ones that get goosebumps from some of the direction of AC 6. It's clear that it was obvious what game really hit home to the purest lovers of the AC franchise. We can't understate our appreciation for the continuation of the series, and the idea that a new generation will be introduced to the joys of it that we had as children. I hope that it roots itself once again and truly lives on in newer games so that even more nerds can enjoy it the way we did when we were young

    While it's fun to analyze I think people overanalyzing the bosses, which causes, like the phrase "All roads lead to Rome", all "viable" build lead to either 2x shotguns, 2x bazookas, 2x songbirds/needles, or pilebunkers with armor of 10,000 AP and above, and combination of such. The entire game (NG+ and ++) can be solidly beaten with a 8300 AP dual laser pistols fast build just by following the labeling (Chest is good for light build, etc...) and learning how to conserve ammo, EN and dodge and push the advantages, without ever going into the nitty gritty details of it.
    My point is there is no such thing as a single build that is made to overcome certain challenges. If it's fun it's probably viable. It's not a build issue, it's actually a skill issue.

    • @LoreHunter
      @LoreHunter  Рік тому

      Yeah, I was specific to say that the way in which I was using the build, and I did not say that there is a single correct build for a mission. It is more your playstyle + creating a quality AC that considers the situation. I also ended up using quite a bit of 2x Needles, but found it more fun to not rely on a single build. It is not required, but through this experience I clicked with why the Assembly is so much fun and how the game allows you to think on this level and have it matter.
      And I disagree about the last part. Sure, you can bash your head against things, but I think it is way more fun and is the intent of the game to spend time in the assembly thinking about your build holistically.

    Somewhat surprised at hearing that some 4th gen vets had the opinion that FA did NG+ more successfully. The reason why is because I think AC6 is way less ambiguous about the story of liberation it's trying to tell, and that it requires the story reaching critical mass in order to present the most positively evocative ending in AC history. The "true ending" of AC6 actually feels transcendental, which was genuinely surprising. I think I was grinning at the screen during the last cutscene.

    When i got to chapter two and unlocked the pile bunker i was initially turned of just because of the melee distance of the charged attack……untill i tried out the weapon bay and OHHH MYY GOOOODD!!!😱 It all clicked. Originally i was using the chapter one lazer blade and the pile bunker with a plazma vertical missle and a plazma rifles on a light weight bipedal bulid. im able to make light work of both acs and sorties alike so far. using one melee one after another feel soo satisfying to pull off.ESPECIALLY when you stager with the Lazer blade only to 😂absolutely WRECK with the pile bunker. The plazma rifle and missile lancher are to just add dmg and pressure for more mobile foes like ACs or tougher MTs .Just adjust how aggressive you are with each type of enemy and this build will definitely be a joy to play for people who wanna throw hand with bosses. I find it odd people found sea spider a real challenge, literally every other boss took more than four tries, but I got seaside in one go, mission from start to end. Maybe because it was post-balteus that I was using the max-close-range targeting chip and kept my nose under its legs

    I got goosebumps playing this game and watching the three endings and the story unravel, I'm a big mech/anime fan (love Gundam, Evangelion among others) and I didn't get to play an Armored Core since the first one I could try that was on ps3, when I was a child, 10 years waiting for this if not more
    I'm still hooked on it playing with different builds in the arena, etc I just hope From Software doesn't keep me waiting much long for the next one (or more content for this), cause this was one hell of a ride
    One of my favorites games no doubt, Armored Core is something special for me this is the mech game I enjoyed the most, 10/10
    The only thing that I could ask for is for the campaign to be even longer/have more quests, more bosses and even more customization, not because I feel like is short or lacks on anything, but because the experience the game has to offer felt so good that I simply want more

    I'm hoping that the success of AC6 might motivate FromSoft to port and remaster older AC games like AC4A. I know emulators and such exist, but it'd be nice to be able to go and experience them with a fresh layer of attention and polish.

    Expertly written. I felt the same way with Sea Spider. Incredibly frustrating, but once it clicked that spacing and baiting out certain moves and ALLOWING MYSELF to take acceptable damage (vs trying to dodge all damage and getting punished severely on large attacks) - it clicked for me that aggression is key. This isn't a Souls game where I can meander about and i-frame dodge attacks and fatroll to scout enemy attacks, this is an Armored Core game where I'm in a Mech that can and should take damage to learn what is acceptable to take in crucial moments.

    The wall for me was also the same boss trying to assault boost past its legs and bouncing off of them and then getting smacked was ... Frustrating to say the least. Made me remember that if i wanted more control for the assault boost i had to switch to soft lock. But also that i had to switch hard lock on for the boost kick and melee pilebunker to avoid a few misses ther could have been avoided. And also shooting it with assault rifles like i was without paying attention to hitting the armored legs made me start jumping to dodge and get the right angle to hit weaker points. 4 hours and 40 attempts later i beat it. Alao being reminded that the alert is just a warning you still have to pay attention and dodge based on the attack.
    Skill expression is peak gameplay. And armored core 6 lets you show off your mastery.

    I've been playing Armored Core since the 90s. Master of Arena was the one that got me hooked.
    I'm glad you enjoy AC6. It has its fun moments, and it does a lot of things right, like how much more interactive each part is to each other. Finding out how your Core type could amplify or diminish your generator's abilities was very neat. The story and characters were also a step above most past titles. And controlling your AC is refined and responsive. Not clunky as the old games, but not weightless and feathery like AC4. This makes the game feel like you're in command of your own cutscene.
    But AC66 is not going to make my top 5 Armored Core games because it also does a lot of things I think are wrong. The game generally pushes players to play at hyper aggressive close ranges rather than welcoming a wider variety of styles of play - note the lack of proper sniper rifles in AC6.
    I also think the stagger system is overplayed and highly unbalanced. The game already has a meta towards high impact and/or high sustain impact builds. Dual shotguns and Songbirds let me cheese my way through the whole game. And why wouldn't I with the bosses having been designed with the intent of combating players fully stocked from reloading checkpoints at no cost or penalty? Dying a dozen times to the same boss is not fun.
    Which brings me to my biggest grip with AC6: I'm not fond of the focus on boss fights, especially the ones that can zip around the level and hit like a truck. I feel without checkpoints with free refills, the bosses could have had both a greater variety and objectively better layers of challenge instead of all simply being over the top.
    I also wish debt had been brought back, and more meager mission rewards, which would add yet another layer of challenge to the game besides bosses.

      @lastraven3017 Рік тому +1

      The game felt super imbalanced and if you were not using dual shotguns or similar option, you were going to suffer failure over and over. It becomes a breeze once you do though. Builds not feeling remotely viable while some are super overpowered kills what AC is about in my eyes, using different setups. Then again, PLOW ACs would also do that to some degree by removing restrictions like weight, that were meant to keep things within reason.
      Which felt like a slap to the face once you obtain all the parts and realize there are no weapon arms (likely due to needing a stagger weapon and then a finisher weapon, so weapon bay friendly arms). Not only does it feel like we have less variety due to viability, we are lacking options that we used to get in the past. I have finished NG++ and it left me feeling like the game wasn't finished or incomplete. There's something missing, which is kind of how AC4 felt, ACFA felt more like what AC4 should have been from release.
      I was also hoping the difficulty would feel more linear, but it just has bosses that cause spikes that felt jarring until you realize what your sauce is. The missions felt more like walkways to the boss fight, while in older games the missions felt like a focus, some of them just happened to throw an AC fight or large weapon your way. It honestly felt like they put a lot of time and effort into the environments, the cut scenes and maybe the story elements, (but not as whole as it draws too heavily from inspirations to feel original if I am being honest and I hate how they had to give us a waifu in the form of Arye) but the game itself felt lacking in a lot of ways.
      I will say love the idea of melee weapons that are not simply pile bunkers or swords, the dagger is hands down my favorite thing in AC6.

  • @steffffykim
    @steffffykim Рік тому

    yeah, in AC4 / AC:LR if you direct hit pile bunk (melees had a "radius" swing so enemies you catch at the center of your swing did more damage) it could easily deal ~70% of an AC's damage.

    The comment about not being aggressive enough is what a lot of players struggle with. You’re a Raven in an AC. Fly up and slash that helicopter boss in the face with your sword. Fly at the spider boss and go between its legs and stay behind it where it can’t use its laser blades or back lasers on you that it strafes you with when you’re flying & far away. Stagger balteus, chase his ass and stay behind or to the side of him as much as possible. Try zimmerman shotguns, stun needle launchers and closer range fcs for mecha malenia and get in her face.
    After ng+++ the game looks & feels much different. You’ll be slapping bosses around with “bad” builds for fun.

There hadn't been a modern mech game that looked interesting untill ac6 and it delivers everything you could want in a mech game. The only thing I feel it is missing is a coop mode of some sort. I also would love to see the pvp mode expanded on more.
    My buddy and I have been spending hours in 1v1 pvp just testing out builds and trying weapons to see what we like and also trying to mind game each other between matches to try to guess what the other will bring to the next set of rounds based on play style.
