The-Ever-Socially-Apathetic TBAL: "American drift cars have big hefty motors with lots of low end torque, because drifting in America is about tire smoke and heavy angle (which requires a lot of low end power), where as drifting in Japan is about grace, chaining (the connection of drifts from apex to apex), and speed."
This video does an amazing job demonstrating the techniques of the different drivers. Watching Gushi rip the handbrake and Kazama kicking the shit out of the clutch was awesome. It also did a great job portraying the difficulty of drifting in a lower power car like the Miata.
@jjunfer thanks for uploading , i really enjoy watching these videos from vol.1 Thanks for still trying to find the rest of episodes , You're the best !
"We are both used to cars that have lot of torque and suspensions so soft" No offence Rhys, I'm a fan but seriously all that power and agility made your drivers skills go low. If you had practiced with average cars and just a little suspension tune up (kinda like this Miata) it would have saved you from hall of shame. That being said I still love your drifts.
that's pretty interesting the americans who are used to more bottom end torque were drifting the miata in 2nd, the japanese guy was in 3rd till the long final drift where he slaps it back, most likely that's why it went like it did.
In the end, it's just a variety show much like top gear. Japan vs USA is just for entertainment. Also, it's for the drivers that compete in USA D1 competition, not their nationality.
Advantage is the tires are way more worn after the first runs and secondly, he was heating up the tires quite a bit more before his runs which clearly works in his advantage here.
BMW really should make a real sports car of its own. The E89 Z4 doesn't quite fit the bill but a pure sports car from the E89 would be nice. Shove an S55 or S65 in the E89, make it wider, reduce weight, use suspension, transmission, and LSD from the upcoming M4 GTS (or previous E92 M3 GTS) = awesome car.
+TheRaguORagula I think your wish has been granted. The new M6 is BMW's pure sports car. They even made it as their new GT3 car with the same engine you get from factory.
@waja150hp you missed out on alot then, btw do you really have a 150hp waja? Friend of mine has a 4g18 that's losing power due to age, any suggestions?
Omg you people telling ken block CANT drive or drift at all?!?everybody saying that has never drifted a real car before, the man has skills to do what he does
He's used powerful american cars with stiff suspension. He had no idea of the handling of the car, that's where the experience of the final japanese racer came in. He pushed the car to get a feel for it in his trial run.
im not going to say that ken block should be in this, mostly because he's a rally driver, but money will never buy talent. he is an incredibly talented driver who does enough to promote auto racing to help the industry grow that you seriously need to just shut up with the hate. if you like cars hes helping something you have a passion for so quit bitchin'
In my opinion the Japanese are really good drifters because they are the inventors of drifting so no surprise there but to give a fair chance to all of them the American team should have also brought a car with them that they are used with. Not to mention that Yasukawa 298 with points driven the MX-5 so good and he admitted that he is used to driving that under powered car. So there should be a round that team U.S.A should have driven their tourqey car and let the Japanese drivers drive it for a fair drifting showdown!
You have a point but the idea was to see who could control the car with limited driving time. The contest was fair the only reason the Japanese won was because Tsuchiya and Kazama were experienced.
Fumxe2 Experience is almost everything but its better if they will do my idea. Its like using one cue stick with soft tip. I use yours with soft tip and you are used to it then you use mine with a heavy cue 21 ounce using a medium tip. The cue with soft tip is the MX-5 and the heavy cue using a medium tip is the tourqey american car. This way weather you have a lot of experience or have no experience to either types of cue and tip it will be more fair. Do you get it now? Its not only talking your talk or walking your walk then see in the end who has more experience, it would be more fair if you also test their best american drift cars since you visited United States Of America even if you are the one who made the segment.

at 111mins or so into the video they talk about over heating. on jays garage they have a product that is promiced not to allow over heating, its not deadly to you animals & does not eat aluminum + good for 10 years.i wonder if there is a rule saying they cant use this product.even tho i do not recall the competitor to the mazda, must of not sold well.id like to see them test the scion gtr-86 everything iv read its gonna be a fun car,can use the power band in all gears.time will tell how it sells.

Keiichi Tsuchiya the real DK
not exacly anymore
Yes it is kid
yes he is. but he races track/circuit for real cuz for him, D1 racing is just wasting your tires
He didn't even use the paddles on the M5. What a legend!

America had to import their driver,,
+nooki1102 both of them haha
