For anyone wondering, Daggerfall is also free on Steam but you need to patch in the free Unity remake yourself after downloading from its website. The base version works but runs terribly on modern hardware and is more effort to get working than the Unity remake.
I swear to his Imperial majesty, I will watch every damn second of this that you play. This is one of my favorite games. It's brutal, insane, but so good.
I used to work near Liverpool St Station in London. The old building next door was getting demolished, and I arrived for my shift to find a the police had cordoned the entire block. Turns out the demo guys had found an old ww2 bomb in the top floor lol, dang Jerries
Urgh the GoG-cut thats not just outdated but comes modded to the gills. For a first-timer this might be alright but my eyes bleed seeing that AI-upscaled art.
Regarding the story about the bomb... my grandmother had large vase made from a bomb. I can totally see the confusion. Explanation: Soviets had bombs sold to them by the Germans before their invasion in WW2 and a lot of these bombs were actually filled with sand. One of them had fallen my grandmother's family's yard and since it obviously didn't explode, they took it, cut off the middle part, turned it on its fins for support (as a sort of legs to keep it vertical), filled it with earth and used it to plant stuff in it.
I fell in love with this game last year and it has quickly become my favorite elder scrolls game and it is now what I play for some simple comfort after a hard day
Cracked up when your super important mage contact at the literal start of the game is like 'so I heard you nearly drowned and crashed onto our shores anyway I need you to hoof it across the entire province to the entire opposite end of where you are in a few weeks because like fun am I coming to see you, prole'
Small tip while exploring dungeons: Drop 1 gold coin as marker, for paths you already took or paths that loops. You can even change the dropped item sprite to make markers with different meanings
Wow, the maps in daggerfall are better than Oblivion and Skyrim. The amount of time i got lost in the other ones because of overlapping walkways that you couldn't see on a 2D map is ridiculous. A 3D rotatable map would have been so nice.
It is still so beautiful, I do wish more streamers would play it with the original textures though instead of the DREAM mod, the pixel artstyle of the original has a lot of charm once you get used to it.
@@sentimentalmariner590 It's such a beautiful game and while the dream mod is very nice looking I think it kind of strips the game of some of its charm
@@greenhowie That's not the issue the GOG unity version just has a bunch of problems and stability issues, so it's better to just use the normal daggerfall unity, it takes pretty much no extra effort to set up and is much less janky
It is time for Josh to play the masterpiece which he wil absolutely adore (minus a few old mechanics) and the world needs a remake of to enlighten itself: Vagrant Story My quest, my crusade, starts now.
Oh hey this is neat. I've occasionally watched this channel but had no idea there were Let's Plays on it. And to discover this playing my absolute favorite Elder Scrolls game is neat.
@airiakizuki5592 does it tho? you seem to be right, i launched the game just to check and somehow i remembered it to be just as big as any other dungeon
The thief skills are obvious. Dodging face shots. Stealthily doing things under the table. Pickpocket your hand into a pocket to feel the rocket. Climbing on top. And Critically, knowing just where to apply pressure for maximum “effect”
The best thing about a 6 hour live stream is that I had it in the background and definitely missed something so rewsrchung it u will finde new stuff in the same stuff I presumably warched
I remember getting this as a demo on a PC Gamer mag CD. It just had a starter island but it had more content than most games around that time. Played the bejeeeezuz out of it. Never played the full game tho...
Not sure if anyone else told you but the original version of Daggerfall had the 3D map. I have the original Prima Guide that has the main quest dungeon maps if you want to see. :) I loved seeing so many of your chatters who have played Daggerfall and are giving you legit tips! For streaming, on the unity menu, look for the option to make huge dungeons small (except for main quest dungeons). You will thank me for that.
Until it's too late - Start over. With normal version of the game. Although I'm not complainig, your videos and streams are fun to watch anyway. You inspired me to install normal Daggerfall with mods today lol
I've tried playing both Arena and Daggerfall. I cannot for the life of me, get out of the beginning dungeon in either game. I'll have to give Daggerfall Unity a try.
Both games use random dungeon layouts which means sometimes you just can't do it with the skills/spells available to your character. The first dungeon is the worst for it, simply because you lack the ability at that point to leave and return after getting a solution.
The town locations/contents are fixed, but it's still procedural(the game just generates it with a fixed seed), it's how the game manages to fit such a huge world into a couple of hundred MB.
I could be wrong, but it sounds like my remastered music is being used. (part of DREAM, but I also have standalone loose files on ModDB and I gave someone else permission to pack the music tracks into a dfmod file to release on Nexus as a standalone remastered music mod for those who don't want to use DREAM. I don't know when it will go up, though.) At least, I think I'm hearing some of the synths I created/adjusted via Alchemy Player VSTi for the dungeon tracks back when I took on the project several years ago. And given that those synths were adjusted heavily in attempt to match what I remembered from the various original midi files, (and in some cases taking minor artistic liberty) I think I'd recognize them, haha. Always happy to see when people decide to use things I've worked on! I put a lot of work in the remaster to keep the music and atmosphere as close to the original intent as possible, while still being a significant step up in fidelity with good control of dynamics and overall soundscape. (I have better tools and higher quality orchestral libraries now, but no plans to go back and redo the remaster as it would require completely different mixing and finalization passes).
Daggerfall Unity is a remake of the original Daggerfall game in the Unity engine. This version he's playing is the "GOG Cut", which basically takes Daggerfall Unity and fills it to the brim with a bunch of mods. It's pretty outdated. No idea why Josh decided to play this thing instead of just plain Daggerfall Unity.
After watching the whole video, Josh´s build is so awful, with plenty of self sabotage dumping points on luck and leaving them at 69 for jokes. No wonder he gets beat up so much.
Hearing the comment at the start.? wait Daggerfall is supposed to be difficult? The first 3 levels yeah. Then you get lycanthropy (+40 STR EN AGI) and at lvl 5 ish when magic items start to spawn, you leveled INT a bit to cast fireball and got a enchanted item with 'absorb magicka' it's all ogre. ... I should try not doing that next time, hmm
Almost 7 hours of quality second monitor content
Quality? You mean whelming. On this channel, that's the goal: not underwhelming, not overwhelming, just whelming.
I write this as I watch this content on my second monitor.
im more of a picture in picture guy so similar experience :)
@@FabermorrowThat's how I watch it as well. It's TECHNICALLY a second screen but I like to watch while I do work from my phone.

Zooming out in the Elite: Dangerous galaxy map
Man ive been blessed with these uplaods right as im looking for something to sleep to.
Btw, mouse look and the 3d map is in the original version. Mouse look is disabled by default and need to be enabled in the in-game settings
and the original doesn't make your eyes bleed

What if Daggerfall is actually an MMORPG, but the world is just so damn big we never encountered another player?
Shh! Don't tell him! It's a secret!
But the chances of encountering another player in a world this big are astronomical. Anybody remember that bit of no man's sky marketing
I swear to his Imperial majesty, I will watch every damn second of this that you play. This is one of my favorite games. It's brutal, insane, but so good.
Josh I could watch you wander around daggerfall for a lifetime, this is very entertaining
Josh ,
I really enjoy you played Daggerfall but the GoG is very outdated version of Daggerfall Unity
Josh updated his version a few streams ahead. You can look at his latest twitch streams and he’s on 1.1.1.

Ah yes, I love me a good Daggerfall lets play
simple as
Only a few minutes in and we already have the most whelming footer in streaming history. Perfect.
Best part of going back to work is all this quality Josh strife content to get me through the day
kinda wish he went with the paladin, heavy weapon and spells approach cause it works really damn well in this game
perhaps another time
Nothing better than a josh stream to watch while fishing in Osrs
I remember this game being life changing for me, it's great too see it is exactly how I remembered it.
1:30:00 in and no live gameplay yet. Feels like playing a book, love it!
Almost 2 hours before we even get into the game and start playing, just the way I like it.
