      I love your channel! I watch it all day! You're an amazing family! Definitely people that others should look up to! I took my friend's daughter to the park the other day and met a women and her autistic son. I told her about your channel. She thanked me. She saw one of your videos where Abby was getting ready and she liked the toothbrush she uses but couldn't remember the video. Wanted to let you guys know and tell you you're awesome!

    has anyone else noticed Abi listens better to Dad than she does mom?? when dad tells her to do something she usually does it, she fights mom more. i think bc she knows mom will give in easier

    One of the many pieces to the puzzle of Autism is that they don't understand their own strengths. Being non-verbal, and not always able to get us to understand brings out anxiety and anger. But even tho you're all exhausted, I absolutely adore seeing how loving and patient you each are with Abigail. And big brother is incredible with her! Prayers for you all, and a huge thank you for allowing us all to come along with you all on the good days, and even the ones which aren't so great. You are very blessed with beautiful children, and a love everlasting!!!

    Not intending to insult anyone but, just watching Abby for a full day, I find exhausting! I'm not sure how you do all that you do. A friend of mine, here, had a son with Down's Syndrome, when she was young. She was left as a single mother, although the father did see his son for vacations, etc. My friend kept her son at home as long as possible. He was past 16, and worked at a local grocery store. However, his outbursts became more frequent and more intense. There were times she thought she might be injured. Eventually, the son was moved to a residential setting, where he is happily thriving. Visitation is flexible and fairly open. He spends time with both his parents...his dad being in FL and his mom being in IL. The son still holds down a job, as well.

    "I feel like I am constantly doing paperwork." I was just doing some this evening.
    I hate the amount of stuff we have to read. I love to read, but not when it is telling me financial, legal, etc. types of responsibilities. I just threw away three books of medical "who & what we cover" insurance books. They seem to update those daily.
    I hope it is a better day tomorrow, Priscilla.

    My brother has flip outs meaning he gets so out of control but the group home really helps him. When my brother doesn’t have flip outs he’s a fun brother. Yes, he is on meds. What about your daughter? Does she take meds and if not you may want to consider getting meds for her. The older she gets the harder is to control her.

    I'm glad you posted this. Teachers and other support staff need to see videos like this to help them understand what parents deal with. Some families deal with this every single day for every single transition. I know for years it was like this for us. Also, maybe you could have a transition object in the car that she has only in the car to make the transition to the car easier? Don't know if it'd work for you, but that's what worked for us and the twins. They had a transition object for every. single. transition. It was exhausting! That's the thing, too, professionals need to understand. Day to day living is overwhelming and exhausting. Combat-level stress. Way to go Mama and Daddy! Abby is so blessed to have you and your son in her life!

    These are the videos that help me the most as a special needs parent. Don’t get me wrong, I love how positive your videos are (I started from the 1st one and I’m working my way through ALL in order) and all the family activities BUT you need to show these rough days more to really show us what works, what doesn’t and what you do to just get through the next five minutes. I’ve truly enjoyed THIS video more then what I’ve seen so far because this is real and what so many of us parents experience and I love that you did not edit out your wife sweating and in the moment....I’m happy I’m not the only mom that has been sweating and at her wits end. Thank you, seriously thank you for this video and I hope as I continue watching them in order I see more of the REAL struggles to help me in my journey as a special needs parent.

    Having trouble with transitions makes sense. It's really tough switching tasks and outbursts do happen. I remember when my family took me to an amusement park and I was DONE. My mom tried to take me on a ride with her and I was scared and also overstimulated and I screamed and dug my nails into her arm and had a meltdown. I didn't mean to but at the time I couldn't get anyone to understand what I was feeling and why this would have been so much worse to force me to do. It's hard for everyone involved. We can all have days like Abbie's here.

      @Tintenfischchen 7 років тому +1

      I grew up with a little brother with severe autism and I've been saying things like that since I was about 10, maybe even younger. Siblings of special needs kids often have to grow up faster than their peers and from a young age on we tend to realize that our sibling needs a lot of help and we take on some of that responsibility.
      When you're a typical preteen and your sibling who is only two years younger can't talk and still wears pull-ups, it's easy to feel like you're part of the caregiver team instead of just a child.

    • @Surdeigt
      @Surdeigt 7 років тому +1

      Violet Heroine I know, my siste is a special needs child herself, I also had to grow up really fast. The reason I said it was bc I think it is really cute, due to the fact that he would do anything for her. It was not meant as anything else. Maybe I wrote it wrongly, I’m not a native english speaker, I’m norwegian 😊

I am hooked watching what you all go through everyday. The awareness you put out there for Autism is so educational. Please educate me on a question with respect of course. My opinion only......your precious Angel doesn't seem to be happy with her being filmed. I am most likely wrong and certainly don't mean to insult anyone. You all are a beautiful family and I appreciate you sharing. Cathy from Florida 8/9/2019 Blessings to all.

    By the way, when she's like this does that little sensory room help or is she actually overstimulated? Does music help?

    • @fatheringautism

      Not much helps. The sensory room is good because it's a small room so her energy is more contained.

    I'm wondering if Abbie is have a bad day because of the caregiver. It seemed to have went down hill after you left her home. Because she's not verbal her acting out may be her trying to communicate a negative exchange with the caregiver. ( no sure but my intuition is leaning in that direction)

I don't know but I'm getting the sense that Pricilla is with Abi more in the day as the dad works and girls and mums often clash more (I know I did with mine)...but in Abi's case it's more physical and Pricilla? You do a great job but not everyone can handle this life. Do many parents put severely autistic kids in group homes?

    I wonder what it was that wound Abigail up ? Doesn't she like going to therapy ? Is that why Cilla had issues with getting Abbie ready and out of the house ?

    I can totally relate to the amount of paperwork involved with having a special needs child. It is RIDICULOUS, but necessary.

    She knew exactly what she was doing lol. She was laughing. She doesn’t seem to respect you as much as she does her dad. Typical teen

    My son is nonverbal and will be 17 may 10th next month he's been so mean and agressive to the point I'm bruised all over. It's so hard to do anything everything has locks because he doesn't understand things that can harm or hurt him. yesterday he all of a sudden melted down and almost stabbed me with a pair of scissors. I home school the schools don't help at all. And they won't allow him to go more than 3 hrs a day then they tried to make it 4 days a week for 3 hrs. He's escaped schools not just one school multiple schools..it's hard I've homeschooled him when he was younger then tried sending him back and fought tooth and nail to get help. I can't get him the help he needs because my husband makes just over the amount to where we can get help. My family is worried he's gonna hurt me so bad not on purpose just in a meltdown with me being alone with him so much they keep telling me to put him in a home maybe he will do better there. My heart just won't let me do that. I love him to much

    It’s days like these that make me angry when people argue with 2 to 1 as if it’s a choice ! Xx
