The worry is Clive isn't getting any younger and there's no mini-Clive to pass all that knowledge on to. When he goes a lot of that knowledge will be lost, arguably it can't be relearned, so the world of bike racing will be immeasurably poorer. A true legend in his own lifetime.
Somebody needs to set up a way to vlog with Clive by asking a lot of questions and even let people send in questions to ask him from the basic bike mechanics to advance questions. Your right all the knowledge and stories die with him. A true legend
had a RD350 prody racer I bought off Clive Padgett's dad in 1975 with big pistons & skimmed head, another guy from Scarborough called Don Daws ported it, and It did real well. Always used to love a trip to Padgetts, My eldest lad got a ZX636 off Clive many years ago and still has it. best family run shop in UK.
Hi Lee, not sure that you'll have anymore vlogs this year so can I take this opportunity thank you ( and your good lady) for all of the effort, honesty and insight you have provided in these. Always a good day when a new vlog drops and always entertaining. Great to see a no nonsense yorkshire man ( mr W) join you and special mention to Neil, grumpy on the outside but a heart of gold on the inside (but dont tell him that)
Amazing to see all those YZR engines and the complete bike. Clive is a legend and remembering part numbers is something I can relate to as an aircraft techie. I loved the two stroke GP era, saw Spencer, Mamola, Schwartz et al in their glory, good memories.
Fantastic Video. As an old fart my racing background goes back a long way. I was never good enough or brave enough to race. But have followed and admired those that do for many years. James was one of my favourites. Have seen him race many times. And still have a huge artwork on my wall on the Suzuki 750 GSXR. Anyone who follows racing and the TT knows of Padgett's. And a more in depth look at some of that history, would be great. You are right about bikes of the past. They have something that modern ones don't. Computers have destroyed many things. Bike racing is one of them. When bikes were set up by rider feedback. And engineering knowledge. Like Clive. To me it was a better era. Now with all the bike sensors. Rider aids. And a guy with a laptop. Who or what is preparing the bike. In the same way they build planes that can't be flown without a computer. They build bikes that can't be ridden without rider aids. Pointless. The limiting factor should be the skill of the rider. Not the software package. Just my opinion as an old fart.
I’d love a podcast series with Clive talking in detail through each racing season! The info in the man’s brain is incredible! Plus he’s an absolute gentleman, would be a great listen
I feel i could spend an entire day just listening to Whit and Clive talking nerdy stuff about that YZR lump. And as a man of a certain age, the Fast Orange Yam's make me feel like a teenager again... 😁
Mahico !! This vlog is brand new, ace. 2 stroke motors are in the dna of people who grew up through the 70's and 80's. Always remember Jim racing with his knees stuck out . Cheeky chap😊 👍🏼🙏👏🫡
Got to be said Clive such a great man, always got so much time for everyone. He took my lads in a garage at a bsb race showed them around and got Davy to chat to the boys. Such a great family
What an Aladdin's Cave that Showroom & workshop is and Mr Padgett is the diamond! Encyclopedic, is the only way to describe his m/c knowledge. Thanks LJ.
I personally took 3 fan relays out of my car one week ago and I can't remember which ones go where. Clive finds a dropped screw stuck for decades in a crevice on an engine he's never laid eyes on before and knows exactly where it's supposed to go. Plus he rattles off an O-Ring part number like he's got the microfiche laying on his retina. I am humbled.
Another great vlog. Looking forward to hearing more from Clive. His knowledge is unbelievable. Loved the part number recall. Can listen to Clive and Whitham for hours. Looking forward to the next chapter on the stroker
Could watch this all day the amount of knowledge in that room was tremendous can’t wait to see that bike back up and running. thanks for another great episode hope your feeling better everyday.
I really enjoyed seeing all the old stuff and enjoy watching what your doing with the 500 I had a YPVS back in the day and sold it before I moved to Canada in 92 I’m 60 now and ride a Ducati monster 821 stealth and love it Keep doing what you’re doing and I’m rooting for ya in 2024. 🤙

Lee, absolute great vlog... Mr Whitham & Clive are legendary with this era of YZR500's.... Brings back all the memories from National racing myself & a golden time in the sport. Keep more content coming on the rebuild....thank you.
I’m not a young whippersnapper. like yourself.I am a little bit older than Jaime but love two strokes and the likes. so best you pull your finger out and get back over there ASAP. Great watch👍
love seeing as you said "older bikes" I remember seeing those bikes race, but I am older than James lol. keep the vids coming and I will keep watcing, 93 days till spring , Marry Christmas
Enjoyed that Lee. Please do go back and get Clive to give us a bit of chat on some of the bikes and memorabilia that he has around the shop. I need to go there some time, it looks like as much of a museum as it does a bike shop. Loved that!
Great vlog Lee. Would always like more of Whit's wisdom on restoring older race bikes & a decent look round Clive's would be great. He is an amazing wealth of bike knowledge & would love to hear about some of the race winning bikes he has built. All the best Lee,Christie & Jesse have a great Christmas & thanks for all the vlogs this year especially with everything that happened. Really cool to see you have your mojo back roll on 2024 ✊🏻
When you go back for a proper look around, please get Clive on screen a bit to talk us through some of the bikes and their history. I'm a similar age to you Lee but like you, the 80's and 90's bikes fascinate me, particularly 250 two strokes 😉!
The amount of knowledge in Clives' head is outrageous! :)
Unbelievable that he knows every single part and bolt from a 92-93 bike, just amazing knowledge!!
@@skywalker7517 when you spend most of your life building them it becomes second nature i guess
Proper legend!!!
The world needs more Clive Padgett's.
Could listen to Clive Padgett all day, he has probably forgotten more than any of us could ever hope to have.
Definitely more 'classic' workshop stuff needed. Brilliant that this stuff is still around and hopefully getting used.
Clive needs his own show I could listen to him talk for hours the knowledge he has and the stories he could tell is
Just listening to Clive rattling off the part numbers from memory is very impressive.
That Clive knows his onions. 👍

What an Aladdin's Cave that Showroom & workshop is and Mr Padgett is the diamond! Encyclopedic, is the only way to describe his m/c knowledge. Thanks LJ.
