I got the plastic from osseo plastics. They cut them into strips and I cut them to size! Yes 3m 5200 for sealant! I've hit a bunch of rocks and there isn't any damage noticable!
@@muskie921cp3 Thanks - I have older .100 welded hull w/ an outboard jet I'm gonna try put some on & didn't even think about the angle but guess I try copy what you did - Forgot to ask what fasteners you using & what welding rig you got there- Can't get my mind around spending $40,000 plus on jet boat that I'm gonna crash over rocks -I'm mainly interested into getting to the hard to fish places- Thanks for all the build videos-
Did you have rivets that you went over with the umhw? How is it holding up going on 3 years of use? I have a tracker pro team 18 jet that I'm thinking about doing this to. My biggest concern is going over the rivets and that causing an issue.
muskie921 cp what about the aluminum on the strikes, I was thinking of using 3/16”x1.5” angel. How much weight do you think the hdpe added? Love the boat by the way, looks like it turned out great. Thanks for sharing.
How thick is the aluminum on your boat? I’ve read where guys say if you don’t have a certain thickness then you can’t use UHMW. That doesn’t seem to be the case though
Mine is .100 thick I don't see why it wouldn't work on any thickness as long as it is bolted. If it is just screwed into the aluminum than it has to be thicker or they will just pull out.
UHMW is slick helping the boat slide right over the rocks. It also spreads out the impact to a larger area of the aluminum acting like armor for the hull.
Excellent work and great boat!!!
Where did you purchase the UHMW?
Lee
Looks like it could take a beating now - Where purchase & What dimensions did you get for Uhmw- guessing that 3m 5200? Thanks for video-

It was welded. No issues at all three years later. Last year I hit hard many times as the rivers were really low.
What thickness angle did you use? Anything you would do differently after having tested it a bit?
It's 3/8 thick! I cut all the angle at a 45°! So far it has taken some pretty hard hits and no damages! One small scratch that is hardly noticable!

That was the plastic thickness! Sorry The angle was 1/8 by 1.5 with the plastic and angle it only added 122lbs!

@@muskie921cp3 thanks for letting me know!
what did you use to attach your uhmw?
It is bolted into rivnuts
How much weight did that add to the boat?
It was 122lbs using 3/8 uhmw 12' long. And the angle was 1/8 thick 1.5" wide
@@muskie921cp3 Cheers
How much 5200 did you use?
I think it was five total. It isn't going to stick to the uhwm but it did make a nice seal!
muskie921 cp cool thanks. Just flipped my boat over, gonna give this a try.
What size bolts and lengths did u use ?
1/4 20 stairs I think 1.5 inch length
Wouldn't making the boat with thicker aluminum be just as effective? Seems overly complicated to add uhmw to an aluminum hull...
A sharp rock will still rip through thick metal

The idea is make it slid over the rocks and not dig into the aluminum.
Ive been telling these goobs on this land cruiser forum to put this stuff on their sliders but they wont listen😢
