We did ours in a single piece, but we flipped the hull! LOL We used 1/2 inch so it was a battle. Depending on how much you drive on the dry, we hope to get at least ten years on our bottom. Great video, man! Cheers from Alaska!

Great Video, I'm just about to start the same project. I was wondering if you put any sort of silicone or sealant on your rivets to make them waterproof? And if not have you had any problem with leaking? Thanks

Bryan Richardson , I didn’t use anything on the rivets. I haven’t had it in water yet so I don’t know for sure, but I don’t think they’ll leak. When the uhmw compresses around the rivet they are in there really, really tight. I did use some urethane sealer around the edges of the uhmw, mostly so that water doesn’t get in there and freeze.

Where did you get the uhmw. How wide and long can u get it in , thanks, great video.

Thanks. I bought it at a plastic supply company called Redco in Edmonton Alberta. Mine was a single sheet 12x16'. I think it came off a role 12' wide so the length was whatever I wanted. The usual use for UHMW is liners for dump truck boxes. A supplier for the dump trucks should be able to get you some.

I’m still working on it. I plan on making more videos as it comes along. Next will be engine and rigging. I was hoping to have it done by fall but that won’t happen now, so hopefully spring

do you not get issues with thermal expansion with it all in one piece?

    • @dr.dansgarage

Excellent question. Yeah it does change with hot and cold. I'm hoping the large number of rivets will hold on tight; even with the stress of expansion/contraction. So far it hasn't been too much of an issue but a few rivets on the edge have sheared off. I plan on replacing them and adding extra rivets.

@@dr.dansgarage Yeah i've been thinking about putting it on a larger boat to make it river-worthy and was thinking maybe having expansion joints and filling the gap in with some kind of compressive sealant. It's a great material but it's a nightmare to attach to anything.

N330AA it would certainly be easier to attach in smaller pieces. The advantage of one single piece is there’s no seam to catch the water and get ripped off. However, with a high quality urethane or similar I think it would be possible to safely and durable fill the seams.

I bought it from a plastic supplier in Red Deer Alberta. I can’t remember the name off-hand but I can look it up if you’re local. I had to pick it up at the warehouse.

That would not be possible considering I am in Alabama.(GRIN)
