Okay, some years later I now finally realise this is an opening that has better chance to work against good players actually, since they would react "normally" and then fall into the trap.
Hi. I'm glad that the opening picture drew your attention. I set up the position with my own board and pieces, and then took a picture of it. After that, I applied some graphical effect with my PC software.
Recognize the King. Then learn the kanji for Gold, which happens to be the first half of Silver. Bishop looks unique, Pawn will also take a bit of memorization. Knight has a recognizable symbol on the right (similar to King?) Lance looks unique. I can't remember promoted pieces yet though.
@@chaotickreg7024 Promoted pawns have a unique hiragana (simple symbols) promoted silver generals have a gold general symbols, the other minor promoted pieces like promoted lance and knight should also have unique symbols, major pieces like promoted rooks and bishops are bigger pieces in comparison and both also have unique symbols that make them not that hard to differenciate from one another, but yeah it takes a little more time than chess to know all these pieces. For me to find silver and gold, I realized that gold kanji looks like a house, and silver looks like a house and an apartment side by side, lance kanji looked like a lance or like a cannon from the sky, knight has a unique symbol that I wouldn't mistake with any other one, rook has a kanji that has almost the form of a square, and the bishop's kanji looks like a brick tower with a wooden rooftop to protect from arrows. I kind of made associations between the symbols and what it looked like to me.
It's not that it's good for black. Black will play R-7h, but it's still OK for white. I mean it's still difficult. Anyway, since there is a much better way to deal with demon killer, white has no reason to choose that position.
I thought that you can only promoted your piece when it comes to the last 3 lines. But as I saw, the bishop promoted in line d so I couldn't understand the last part of the video
wait. i'm just a few days into shogi. i get the tactics you're explaining by now but 5:07 why is it that you draw the conclusion of a loss because the enemies dragon is in danger? 7:19 same for the knight. it's only a defeat after the enemy got the king so why is it inevitable that you will get the king after you got one of those :? (oh and 3-gatsu no lion brought me here)
Because it is what is called a outebisha, or fork in chess term, where the kaku is checkmating while threatening the ryuou, and as black need to move the king, white can basically take the ryuou for free and that is basically a hisha+kaku trade for gold and silver which is very very unfavorable.
Hi, I want to ask, in 5:50, if black makes the trade without moving the King, and promote bishop instead of the rook, it will thread both white's king and rook. And black can not only kill the oppent's rook and put his rook back to the game and promote to dragon.
the bishop fork by white is playable as soon as the rook takes on 7c. otherwise white still has defenders on 7c to take the horse if black takes with the bishop and promotes earlier
I basically already defend this while playing against the CPU on an app that I have. I'm pretty good at it, but still get my butt whooped by level 3 CPU... 3 is the highest. There's beginners and levels 1-3. I can beat up to level 2 CPU, but 3 is difficult.
Because Black can take the Knight with the Rook and create a Dragon, and that Knight on 6e can capture on 5c to promote it, and White is in a bigger trouble because the King is exposed and the Gold on 6d is hanging
I think it's because white knight 8a takes silver, black night recaptures and promotes, threatening the king while reinforced by the black rook. Just a guess though...

I am not an experienced player, but my thoughts: Dragon is very dangerous in white's camp threatening both the rook and the gold. White probably goes R6b to try to save them. I think black should have a way to force a win here, but it is hard for me to work out as well. N7d threatens mate, but white probably takes it with his gold and then defends. Instead S7a threatens mate but R6a gets out of the way. Maybe R+7a. If he blocks with R6a 'S62 wins the rook for free still attacking the king. So block the rook check with a pawn drop and then maybe just take the lance looking to drop it next move against the gold and rook. Probably there is something stronger I am too weak to understand but black is definitely on the attack.
Chess Opening: Sicilian Defense, Torre Attack, London System, etc.
Shogi Opening: DEMON KILLER!
halloween gambit, frankenstein-dracula opening
There is also a Lady Killer Wham-Bam Rook Opening in Shogi
Okay, some years later I now finally realise this is an opening that has better chance to work against good players actually, since they would react "normally" and then fall into the trap.
I just started playing shogi. I realised that I use this opening without knowing it
Lol same, American chess player

I just wish there's a way to easily tell the pieces

Notice the notable characteristic of each kanji and differentiate them that's how I learned them

Then demon killer trap won't work. It's just a opening trap, not a strategy in the first place.
Pusinggggg😌😌😌😌😌😌
i used to play this a lot when i first started
Thank you very much.
Now I understand the idea of Demon Killer.
the only shogi move i know is
move pawn g-7 to f-7
This is an interesting and agressive opening trap, If the oponent do not play correctly
His english got so good lmao, I wonder where he is now
He's too busy with his work, nothing special
He's trying to keep in touch with fans tho, he contributes to ShogiHub
Rei Kiriyama introduced me more into shogi😊

You can also place pieces in the last 3 lines, and they automatically promote as soon as the piece moves.

but it's only 'very unfavorable' but not nessercarily a 'game over' right?
white has two rook and two bishop, black don't have.
That is game over because rook and bishop are very strong pieces.Black has no chance.
@@mulraf if you get a rook for free you cannot lose unless you do not play well from that point forward.
mulraf it’s very difficult to lose after such a decisive move

Hey man, thanks for all those tricks maybe you can be my master
But what would happen if white moves Silver6b after Knight7g?
Thanks!
How would you move if white moves 4a to 3b after black moves knight to 8g?
Can you fake a demon killer opening to gain an advantage?
Is there an angel opening in Shogi? Just curious.
It's not really an opening per se, more of an opening trap. A trap that the more experienced players who know this is a trap might punish you for.

How do i distinguish between the lieces, thats where i am striggling the most
What after the bishop exchange he plays 3c after you played 5e
What if he plays gold b7 instead of b5
This looks like kings indian in chess
I clicked coz the opening sounded cool
Shikamaru n his teacher...azumaaa...whereee nruto
This line is so long for an opening trap
Where can you buy a shogi board with english characters?
What if after black pawn to 7, instead of attacking the knight white makes bishop exchange, then bishop drop to 5e?
Sebastián Anguiano just drop bishop 8h again
very good
What do you need to do if he does'nt take the bait?
Thank you
Great video!!
@3:57 how can you check mate being black in that position?
I suppose he says "game over" as in "now you're in lots of trouble" rather than litteral check mate

what when opponent second move will be king on 5b and he will exchange bishop after you move with a knight?
That's a waste of move, black will get an extra tempo by developing a different piece
4:11
Why dont the knight just take the silver?
