Thanks for sharing this video and having it in slow motion really helped walkthrough what made this happen. I haven't used speedbar low yet as I know how quickly things happen down low and I can see where you would pull break mistakenly when a quick change is needed. And when 2D is tied in already (where you cannot just grab tips) you may fall back on instinct like this pilot did. Glad it worked out and he is okay!
I just did this same thing. A little different but also the new freeride2. I did a full power speed bar Pop to snap roll. But one side of the speed system did not disengage and it almost turned out very bad. I was already into the brakes as I pulled in my feet but the left side pulley snagged or did not release smoothly and this happened to me. I recovered inches from the ground. 🙏🙌
Wow, so glad your ok. Things happen so fast don't they. On a side note, I can just imagine Dell scrambling to make one of his 9 finger 'told ya so vids.
It looks like the wing did recover itself , he just didn't have enough time to bring it back stable. So my assessment would be it would have been okay after some crazy oscillations.
powerloops are next level insanity to me, even more so than standard infinities. Every time I see one I wonder just how close to giftwrapping you'd get
@@WX4CB it’s hard to describe, but the speed bar is used to increase the speed of the wing by adding pressure to the leading edge. Somehow adding brakes when doing this disrupts the airflow and the structure of the wind just falls apart.
@@dejavukrewe ok if i understand this right, brakes pull trailing edge down, and bar pulls the front edge down? so effectively the camber of the wing increases? kinda like slats and flaps on a fixed wing ?
I’ve flown reflex a bunch borrowing my friends’ wings. I just don’t own one yet. I’ve also played with speed bar a bunch. That was however my first time playing with speed bar on a reflex wing.
The way that video is made is quite misleading on the message for 4min. 🫠 Makes it sounds like the Freeride is a sketchy wing, while indeed nobody should touch breaks on speed bar. I love your content but please stay away from those catchy videos passing a wrong message 🫣
Good thing he was so low to the ground? Crazy to watch how the brake pressure noses the wing down even more. What an awesome video!
That was mad simple, god bless him, complacency also, much love Reese, love ur style 8-)
Thanks Vertical!

You can just grab tips with 2d tied in

Classic case of RTFM. Awesome vid, Reese.
This was extremely insightful to me, thank you

Trevor put it perfectly, the glider deflated, but re-inflated insanely quickly and on heading. No 180 reverse face smacks. We're glad he's okay too!
Pucker Gott, as Yoda would say. Glad everyone got home that day and great video for many reasons.
Not enough throttle while in ground effect?
😮
What size for what weight this Freeride collapse ?
Where were his trims set to?
Neutral, with PK
I just wonder how well he would have recovered, had this been at a safe altitude?
same thing i wanna know

Looked like right side was deep into brakes?
Brakes on bar in general
Great learning moment, thanks for sharing
Well I was wrong. Lol. Fantastic shot though and best of all he walked away smiling.
Thanks for sharing!
wake?
Why does everyome say these are death traps?
I would definitely be thanking GOD .
Do it again, we want another camera angle....
So this was the equivalent of a stall?
Not at all actually.
@@aviator interesting, can you describe what basically happened?

To my limited knowledge that sounds correct.
If he had an extra 20-30 feet he may have been able to ride it out. Glad to see the only damage was to the prop!
The wake from the other guys prop
😂
Wow. Who is this dude 😎. I'd say that is a rocket loop. With a Moster!!! And he never flew a reflex before.. Seems completely loco 👌🏻

I would say wake turbulence.
I would be thanking God and changing my jocks.

It wasn't our intent at all to show the Freeride in a negative light, it was purely pilot error, 100%
