My younger sister was in school at Martin that day, too. It picked up in the parking lot between the school and the church next door. They had her "sheltering" right next to that WALL of plate glass at the front of the building and I was FURIOUS when I heard about it! There would have been dozens of deaths at Martin that day from the glass alone if that tornado hadn't picked up where it did. My friend lives in the neighborhood off of Pleasant Ridge next to I-20 and Kelly Elliot, and she was home alone with her 6mo baby when that storm hit because her husband was at work. She sheltered in a linen closet and told me it got so close that the roar was DEAFENING and the entire house started shaking. All she could do was clutch her baby underneath her body and scream because she thought they were both going to die. Thankfully her house was spared and the worst that happened was the doorknob to the closet door broke when she got the all clear, so she had to kick the door open from the inside to get out.
That very tornado cut right through my neighborhood within a quarter of a mile from my house. As you watch the footage, notice the electric power grid being knocked out when (at ground level) light flashes everywhere. That happened within walking distance of my house. Too close for comfort.
I remember this day clear as glass, I was about 10 years old and was at school, I dont remember the name, but it wasnt the kennedale jr. high, the one before it I think, but they had us take shelter downstairs, I was scared to death, it didnt come close but they still had us in there, I remember the power going out a few times durring this, all of us were safe and unharmed though, then I learned that it hit my neighborhood next to Kennedale High, drove through the wreckage with my dad, it was minor, branches everywhere, and shingles torn from roofs, i'll never forget that day
WOW! Waht a rare storm. Multi-vortex and stayed around for a long time without dissipating or changing into a solid tornado... Ya got lucky with this vid!!! Great capture!!!
Man I was in Arlington this day, I was visiting a friend, and it was my first time seeing a tornado, I swear to god I thought I was going to die....I do love my friend in TX, but we decided that he would visit me from that day on, apart from hipsters Portland is rather safe.
Sunny Burrito that's a funny comment. My brother lives in hipster Portland, OR and I recently moved to Dallas from Southern California. haven't seen a tornado yet.
Sean Petersen I hope you stay lucky and never have the misfortune of encountering one, I almost had to live in TX because of college but thanks heavens I managed to transfer to Trenton NJ and later Portland OR, Why did you move? CA is a nice state I've been there couple times visiting friends and BF, real nice weather.
I was lived in Fort Worth Tx I was there, scary my sister lives in Arlington. It was devastated. 22 yrs lived there its just as scary as the 1st one trust me
Great footage of a multi vortex tornado. I suspect you are a fellow chaser. Kuddos for staying calm and not yelling and screaming like a lot of rookie (and sometimes veteran) chasers do. I work for AFD and have chased for 11 years. I was hunkered down in the hall way as the tornado passed. Its quite scary being the victim instead of the chaser!
What is so awesome about this video is the great contrast between the hills on the right and the interstate in front which highlights how large the tornado is. Cool video!`
I'm 48 years old and I grew up in Arlington and still live there to this day. And I've been waiting my whole life to finally see a tornado........and I somehow still missed this one. 🙄
I was working at Godiva at The Parks Mall...I had to take shelter in a corridor beneath the Food Court. I drove people to their cars on the upper level because the access doors were locked up there. I cried all the way home because I couldn't take I-20 ... I had to take a different way because of the roads ...
Hi Bret. Would you grant permission for us (NOAA Weather Partners) to use this tornado footage in an upcoming Bite-Sized Science video? We would happily credit you.
Live 3 blocks away from this one . My First ever and I hope my last. This thing was so loud and intense... just Being on the outter edge of the vortex, the wind the Sound pretty crazy.
I was at UT Arlington when this happened. We were all made to get into the library and they told us to stay until they gave us the clear. A bunch of edgelords decided they were too cool for that, so they just walked out. Luckily the storm didn't hit that part of the school, but you bet your lucky stars I won't leave until I know for sure it's safe.
Thank you for sharing your video. I was hoping someone would video tape it. It was headed straight for our home across the highway but thank God it missed us. We were hiding in our closet at the time you were video taping praying it would turn away from us. I pray for all the people affected by this tornado.
That is way cool and awesome footage!!! stay safe though, I heard those things can change direction sometimes and that's how 3 stormchasers died today in Oklahoma... RIP.. but that is incredible footage, it's funny how most people keep driving off... are they used to seeing tornadoes all the time?
I was on the phone with my mom at about this point. The tornado was a mile away and heading for her. Tore up houses 6 down from her but she had a he'll of a mess to clean up.
I watch radar. She had ignored the tornado siren. Warm people they are much more accurate nowadays and sometimes they warn you 15-20min in advance. just because you see nothing does not mean you are clear.
Man I was little back then in 2012 and I was in kindergarten the school disided to turn on the fire alarms and then when they noticed it was a tornado warning/watch they let us in to a safe room
Man on Wednesday May 29 2019 I was like 71% of getting a tornado during school after when I ate lunch plus this is like a short story of it down here⬇️ lining up for to go back to class after lunch Teacher/Mrs.Hall: Please listen class I just got an alert of we are under a tornado watch. Class:aww man I don't want it to happen Rachel/friend: I don't wanna die 5 min later Weather alert goes off. Whole school came out of the rooms and duck . We ducked for 7 mins and after that we sat in the hall and a teacher gave us books to read. Then the principal told us we are updating ,then 3 mins later we went back in.
Hahahaha! I was barely working at chase call center when this happened! I remember I was on a call and hung up on a customer and webhad to move away from the windows lol
I remember this tornado. That was during my 8th grade at St. Paul's Prep just up the highway! It was behind our football field. ua-cam.com/video/wnso_RWf--4/v-deo.html here's the link from one of our teachers who recorded it
Justin I don't think he cares... or anyone in the world.... that you want to be impressed by a video of a tornado that tore apart these peoples neighborhoods.
We dont mind tornado's visiting us here in Arlington. But we do ask that they pick up some trash before they leave.
+skyfix agreed
lol, I still remember that day
same here In Rowlet and canton
tornadoes ALWAYS get right of way....
Looks like a drive-in movie with all the cars parked watching it.
That def cracked me up.
I was in school that day, at James Martin High that tornado was really close to my school, I still remember how afraid I was that day.

man i remember hearing this beast.. didnt see it but you could definitely hear it.. Thanks a lot, Texas
The motorists in Arlington that day got tornado safety and T. rex safety mixed up in their heads.

This is a great video of the tornado that tore through my neighborhood. Thank you for capturing it.
Fortunately I live over in East Arlington, but this was just a bit too close to home for comfort. Nice footage of the multi-vortex.

I was lived in Fort Worth Tx I was there, scary my sister lives in Arlington. It was devastated. 22 yrs lived there its just as scary as the 1st one trust me
Earthquakes, tsunamis, and volcanos?
I remember this one. My mom threw a chancla at it because it threw a lot of trash all over the place

This is how we spent are mother son time
Great video!
Great job thank you for sharing!
I pray we never have an F5 because we have no underground shelters here in TX. There would be countless deaths if that were the case.
We do. I live in Southlake TX. They are not that expensive and they keep you and your family safe.
I think it's because of the clay layer, so making them is economically and practically unviable or something. Or maybe I'm thinking of basements.....
Hahahaha! I was barely working at chase call center when this happened! I remember I was on a call and hung up on a customer and webhad to move away from the windows lol
Oh I hate it when tornadoes are rain wrapped! 😒 I hate for those storm chasers 😖
