even though it can mess up gameplay pretty bad, i do enjoy the occasional macroslice. Had one on my stamplar where 4 biting jabs went off at once. Sounded like a machine gun and looked like one of those Japanese cartoon fights. My game crashed but it def gave me a good laugh.
Wow, this really helped me, I always did it the other way around, I tried to cancel skill animations with light attacks and barely did damage, because most of my light attacks would simply get lost and not hit at all lol
I think animation cancelling and bad flow of combat and visuals is the reason many don't stick with eso. Its such a shame cause the world, dungons , lore and so, so much more are so inviting for new players, but then you have combat like this.. I'd play eso if the combat was different or at least didn't depend on animation cancelling to optimize your dps cause all the other stuff is really cool and are ahead of many other mmo's. Looking throughthe comments on this video it seems im not alone thinking this way.
I'm honestly okay with the attack-skill weaving animation cancelling, but I wish they would fix the weapon-swap cancelling. Easiest way would to make it the lowest priority to swap, so swaps won't happen until animations finish...if I understand correctly.
Actually, I think I have it. ESO needs a Global Action Cooldown and Action Queue system. The GAC would be anything like 0.5 to 1.0 seconds. When a skill or attack are used (for heavy attacks and channel powers, when the attack or ability actually fires), they trigger this GAC. This GAC would prevent anything else that triggers a GAC to fire as well until it expires. Roll dodging, blocking, break-free, etc would not be prohibited by the GAC and could still cancel animations, but they wouldn't allow a player to fire new skills or attacks as well - they would be outside of that loop entirely. This is fine, because they have their own resource costs. In order to circumvent some of the intense clickfesting, an Action Queue could supplant the current attack weaving. If an attack or GAC ability is prompted while GAC is still active, that action is instead queued to trigger as soon as the GAC expires. If an action is already queued and waiting, the last-prompted action supplants the current one. Blocking, roll-dodging, and other GAC-excluded actions would clear the action queue. Weapon swapping would itself be a GAC action, and both be queued and cause the action delay. This would slow down the pace of combat and make things much less spastic, but a lot more fluid in my opinion.
Bow heavy attack charging behaves a little differently in that a poison injection cast will interrupt your charge immediately resulting in a medium attack and a poison injection but other skills will only fire once the whole heavy attack is charged. Examples are bombard/acid spray and silver shards. Another strange mechanic I've noticed is that a full charge heavy attack cancelled by snipe input will reduce the heavy attack Dmg. I'm guessing it's a bug. In order to get the proper damage you need to release charge before inputting a snipe.
Alcast I know that it works that way for me. If that's just happening because I have some different settings I would love to be able to fix it. I don't enjoy having to estimate the timing on the full charge
You can also start with Uppercut and while it charges you hold down Heavy attack and release right after the uppercut hits. Resulting in them both hitting at very quick succession. If you need more burst than DPS.
Jabs/LA/Jabs/LA - I use LA to cancel jabs. Jabs is pretty sticky, but there's a feel for the LA rotation. Vamp Bane/Reflective light is the opposite where you LA first.
very nice video! ive one more thing to ask you about animation cancelling: i do rapid strikes, place a trap and cancle the animation with weaponswap. now i need to do the endless hail on the bow bar so the trap can get empowered by the maelstorm enchant without consuming the buff. however, i find myself stuck in the animation of that endless hail. i try to block cancle it but it feels not really faster then waiting for the full animation... any advice for me? sometimes i feel like the maelstorm enchant runs out before i can consume it on the bow bar for poison injection. especially when i do a light attack between endless hail and the poison injection. the buff timer of the enchant will go to 0:00 time left when the injection goes off so im confused if its still buffed or if i was to late. keep the job up, your videos are a great addition for ppl who want to learn the game on a higher level
I also do light attack animation cancel on bow bar because of the passive that buffs bow damage :) Dont do block cancel. Usually its enough time to get the Pois Inj to hit before maelstrom buff is gone, practice Thanks!
Btw is animation cancelling still a thing I tought I heard something about it being weakened or something! And what skill is the best way to learn it with for mag sorc
Great vid and helpfulls hints. Anim. cancelling in pvp especially in cyrodiil is difficult and does not work as intended because of the lag. What is your experience guys?
Ferswah in my full rotation at the end when i switch from my bow to my dw i do a heavy attack and light attack weaving does more dmge then heavy attack weaving
Well actually on my stam dk I can do 44k on 6 mil selfbyffed, but.... Still not understand at all the light attack animation canceling. I fact my la dps is only 3k something, that mean my animation canceling is soo bad still. Really hate it. Wish one day someone can really explain well how to do it and not only say Don t do too fast don t do too slow.
can we use a macro program for animation cancel? example: when i press 1, computer will command 1+right click this can be altered for channeled abilities
For some reason, when I do a weapon swap cancellation it would automatically go back to previous bar some times. Kinda feel disappointed with my inability to do proper animation canceling. Does this happen to anybody else (the problem with weapon swap cancellation) BTW, excellent video
From my tests, animation cancelling a skill does not add more dps because the instant casting skills always have an internal cooldown (about 1s) in which you cannot activate another or a light attack. So regardless if you canceling the animation or not, you still gonna do a light attack after 1s, because its just the way it works. Hope i don't have to make a video yo prove this :) As for the medium weaving i also tested this a lot in the past and found out that the most dps was achieved by light attacking. Any delay you add to the attack, making it medium or heavy, will actually do slightly less dps even if the damage per attack is higher. Please also test this thoroughly if you wish. Cheers!
i try to make a razer macro for this but i have a harsh time with timers, i set pause between light attack and skill to 0,050 nmiliseconds but it aint work, for now, i will try increase timer
Alcast, about input buffering heavy attack + skill, you can break heavy animation by pressing block. Order is: 1. Begin charging heavy to see the beginning of animation, 2. Input buffer (queue) a skill, 3. Immediately after skill break everything with block cancel. Result is you get in heavy (6-10k) and a skill almost at once. I'm talking about heavy + surprise attack in my case. Check it out and let us know if it's optimal in your opinion.
When I was playing around with macros I used 0.25 s interval to get that medium weave. Light attack fires in 0.1s, so you get 3-6K dmg wasting 0.15s of animation depending if it crits. Block is almost instant, just one rmb click.
Pretty sure in this specific case, it doesnt work (block cancel force pulse + light). I mean, you will cancel the animation, but your next light attack will be in "cooldown". It would be as fast as canceling light attack with fp and spam light attack until it fires.
They altered ani-cancelling to a point where weaving is the only viable method. Some skills, like crystal frags can still be fully cancelled although most of the stamina based skills can only be weaved. I find it quite amusing that people think getting uppercut weaved is something to be furious about, when it was just a couple of months ago I could uppercut someone with almost 100 percent animation cancelling. Personally I liked the old system better than their rushing frames but just like ESO, ani-cancelling is dead. I remember watching Alcast's first video over and over, just running around practicing cancelling until it was second nature. It was definitely the most fun I ever had on ESO, so thank you Alcast for all the info you've provided over the years!
i hoped there is something to resolve it which i dont know.It is annoying because usually doing weapon swap cancel when i already need swap for rotation, but it swaps again automatically, even i clicked another skill after it,so i need to do 1 more swap for switching to weapon which i need)
For Alcast I get a question about on maelstrom's axes only : If i m equipped some 2 maelstrom axes hand left et right does the bleeding proc on both really ? anyone said me it s bugged this . is it true?
How did you reach that conclusion?? You do more damage animation canceling for the simple fact that you cut down animation times and replace it with more damage.
Christine Hede u mean the point where his light attacks didnt go off? This happens sometimes because ZOS once tried to nerf anicanceling... or what do u mean?
if there is no skill needed to do it everyone would be doing it, I don't do any pvp but its makes a lot of difference when you have a group in pve able to cancel animation, I'm sure it puts people at a big disadvantage in pvp if they cant do it
Animation canceling is a disease. It's the reason i quit eso and am going to quit any game in the future that introduces it as part of their intended mechanics. Because it's not intended. Devs know it's cancer but they can't seem to fix it.
I thought this was common knowledge. just use attack and then skill. wtf is the big deal? just tell me what addon is that that puts your attribute bars on the side.
Sucks that I've spent 700 hours on one toon and tried everything to up my dps by finishing all my sets and getting all my passives and all my cp etc. only to realize that I have to block, swap, and LA cancel between my skills to up my dps from 25k to 40k. Makes it seem like noobs could do more dps than a max cp player if they can do this properly, kind of discouraging if you ask me..
Well the skills you animation cancel are advertised as instant cast in the tootip, so if you animation cancel you're just ensuring the skills remain instant cast. If you couldn't cancel a skill you would get into trouble if you suddenly needed to block a big hit after casting a skill. You can't cancel the damage from an instant cast skill. Blame zos for giving long animations to instant cast skills. Explain to me why liquid lightening should have a 1.5s animation when the tooltip says it's instant. I think the people who complain the most just cba to learn and decide to put their efforts into complaining about it instead. If you hit a skill button after doing a light attack you're probably already cancelling the animation of the light attack. If you have to block mid way through a rotation you probably just animation cancelled a skill. Animation cancelling arises naturally when you simply try to do your rotation as fast as possible, which is a natural thing for a dps to want to do.
Richard Grayson It started off as a software bug, but the community liked it since it adds skill to the gameplay. Also ZoS couldnt fix it properly at this time so they didn't even try to fix it. It has become common knowledge and became more of a feature than a cheat. I really don't understand why so many people dislike it, is it because you just don't like it or because you can't do it yourself?
xKaidou Thank you for explaining. I got here from one of those such posts painting this in a negative light and misunderstood the nature of it because it was presented to me as an exploit. Nobody except for you bothered saying that it's INTENDED to be in the game. That makes this a feature and not an exploit and completely changes the context. Also, I tried it out last night and it's easy af so calling it skill is a pretty big stretch. In fact, I'm not entirely sure that I haven't already been doing some of these since before I even saw this video. The dodge attack one I've done since I've started as it gives me an extra second to charge my bow.
Atlas the Titan No, I'm pretty sure you're an idiot. It's evident from how shit your argument is. None of what you said proves jack shit. What you should've said is how it's not an exploit as it's INTENTIONALLY there. That would've both informed me of my mistake and also deconstructed my argument. But you're too stupid for that aren't you? Further evidence is how you started talking like a teenage white girl because my use of "like" to mean "for example" triggered you. Or maybe you mistook the ironic use at the beginning for how I talk. Wouldn't surprise me. Usually satire is lost on the mentally challenged. Either way, resorting to ad hominem while you're in the right just makes your position look weaker. Idiot. Oh and before you get your panties rustled up, the insults are satirical of you and your strategy. THAT's how you mock someone.
Richard Grayson The aspect of skill comes with getting the perfect timing of every ability together with some other things. In PvE you have to follow a certain rotation to deal as much damage as possible and a lot of skills have slightly different timing. When you manage to cancel every skill perfectly while it's lagging in a 10min+ bossfight fight, where you have to watch out for mechanics and movement, I'd consider it skillful. For normal gameplay it's just a nice change of pace or an interesting addition to the variety of the game
"Did you hear the sound? It went off, but you didn't hear shit, okay?" Omfg am I the only one dying at this part? i sweat I replayed like 5 times 😂

Stormfox really it doesn't cancel the uppercut animation?
Nope, because it is a channeled skill you can't animation cancel it.
Cheers for this, as a generally solo PVE player I always wondered what people meant when they mentioned cancelling and weaving.
thanks bruh. i already know all this stuff, but its always good to go back to the basics.
What about LA and Sweeps/Jabs weaving? Really wish you had shown.
Jabs/LA/Jabs/LA - I use LA to cancel jabs. Jabs is pretty sticky, but there's a feel for the LA rotation. Vamp Bane/Reflective light is the opposite where you LA first.

Definitely something to practice. Though lag really messes my timings on XBox.
Alcast you can animation cancel executioner with a bash too to get extra deeps in pvp
yep good point, forgot that xD
You're a solid teacher dude, love your ESO vids.

can we use a macro program for animation cancel?

this can be altered for channeled abilities
technically you could, but if you use macros your a chicken ;) Also lag fucks up macros most of the times
In the end what is better: light attack force pulse or medium / heavy attack and force pulse?
Most people prefer light attack weaving.
you forgot about bash combo with all of that man , u can do all of that +bash for extra dmg
Thanks for the tips alcast!
What about bash though? It cancels ability animations.
it does ye, forgot to mention that

For normal gameplay it's just a nice change of pace or an interesting addition to the variety of the game
it is a cheap way to play, it may be effective but being cheap is usually effective
It's an exploit zenimax tried to remove but cant so now they pretend they choice to leave it in the game lol
all the comments from kids who came to learn animation cancelling, tried it and failed then came back to complain about it 😂
