For you and the other Winchester Model 71 fans I'd like to make you aware that Mark Novak of Anvil Gunsmithing just completed a 3 part restoration project on a 1936 Deluxe version. Part 1 and 2 are already out and he'll be posting part 3 soon. Part 3 may prove invaluable as he fully demonstrates the full take down and reassembly of this classic. Hope you all enjoy....
This is great, seeing you put the Model 71 and.348 through the paces. Favorite rifle and cartridge I inherited from my dad. Wish brass was easier to find and factory ammo wasn’t so insanely priced, cause I think it’s one of the best all around cartridges ever. Thanks for the video!
The path the bullet took was like a huge drill bit. I finally got me a chronograph but it’s rained bout every day since I got it. I’ll try it out on my 25-06 and 300 Winchester magnum soon to see how my reloads are doing
The 348 looks to be a quite potent for less shoulder shock. Quite a bit of smoke out the gel blocks & the power transfer almost doubles the blocks size. Great video and most appreciated.
Hi lever guns..I have a 71 348. I bought it in Alaska at chimo guns in Wasilla. I have been using Hornady 200 grn bullets. I was thinking about hard cast bullets from Montana bullet works. I've had very good results using hard cast in my 405. M95. Your channel is my favorite. You shoot lever guns . Same as me. If you want ill send a picture of my 2 1894,s that were my greatgrandpaps, and grandpa's. I still shoot them and still hunt with them. Both over 100 years old. God bless.😊 they work smooth. They do not put a soul into a new rifle. When they were made. It was a factory workers sweat blood and pride. Working at Winchester. 😊
I had wanted to see you do some smokeless black powder duplex loads. one of the other gun tube channels did a piece on the subject recently and answered my questions.
Now that’s a energy dump brother wow it shook the water on top of that barrel I’m surprised it stopped where it did I figured at least halfway through the 3rd block but it penetrated enough that is for sure. I’d like to try them on a big old wild boar through both shoulders
I have a Winchester 86 short rifle 45-70 . I am older and my eyes aren't what they used to be. I am going to get a Williams rear peep with target knobs. I would like to know what your suggestion for a front sight would be. I noticed that you have a globe front site on some and a fiber optic on one other rifle. Which one do you like the best?
No Northfork has 348 caliber bullets, but I did size down some from spear that were 35 caliber bullets to 348 and they work really good cheap bullets that perform well but these Northfork bullets are on a whole new level
Love the model 71, great rifle and caliber.

Nice video, I will have to try those out. Absolutely love my vintage M-71, .348
Good choice!

The best channel
Thank you
Nice bullets. Gonna have to try some of these!
They’re really good bullets with that solid copper base

Packs a Punch!
Thank you

I like the one with the green or red fiber optic, makes it easier to see
@Leverguns50 thank you. I think I will try the green first
Ps if you have Access to any savage 99 l. I think they would make an interesting video.
Looks nice, I like the heavier 230 gr. weight for moose. Do you know what the muzzle energy is?
I seen the bullet come out the last jug and was going low brother
And how about that hydrostatic shock in the first block of ballistic gel.
How about cinder block and or concrete+ pressure treated Wood like pine maybe 6x6 or similar ❗
👍👍👍/😎🤙
Not available everywhere!! ❤❤
Oh no!
🤠👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍
Thank you
Great video. Why the rings on the shank of the bullet ? 3500 ft. lbs of energy ?
Relief grooves. Those are a two part hybrid. Front is lead core soft point. Base is a solid copper alloy.
The relieve grooves reduces pressure
Did you ever size down the 35 cal 220gr bullets? I may of missed it if you did.
No Northfork has 348 caliber bullets, but I did size down some from spear that were 35 caliber bullets to 348 and they work really good cheap bullets that perform well but these Northfork bullets are on a whole new level
@@Leverguns50 Yeah, the hotcor ones. I saw where you did a few videos with the 180grs, just not the 220grs.
Hey brother
What's up?
Is there anyone that builds a mod 71 anymore???
This was a new Winchester made in 2011
Where do you source brass for that?
Starline sells 348 brass.
@gunmike6072 awesome...thanks
Starline is my favorite brass for it
what was your OAL?
2.795
Anyone on here know where to get 405 ammo or brass or if you can reform brass to make 405 ammo
You can make 405 brass from 30-40 Krag, did you try Buffalo arms?
@Leverguns50 I did, but I thought maybe I could make some for less then 150 dollars a box of 20
