That was fantastic. We are in the process of changing our tropical 6 foot tank to marines and have just emptied it out completely. I’m trying to gain as much knowledge as possible before we start building it up. Thank you so much for your video.
For 15 yrs + I have had an "old fashioned" 600 litre tank with canister filters and do a 25% (150l) water change every Sunday. I have metal halide & T5 lighting. Mainly polyps, mushrooms & hammer corals. Very happy with it apart from electric bill.
Wills tank look pretty high tech and sci fi/science control system.. the other two is very down to earth and what reefers been doing 5years in this hobby all the time.. they all looked great !
Will has a very interesting perspective on reef aquariums and if he tries something new, he really goes for it 100%, such is the case with his latest tank and AF. He's been in the hobby for over 30 years now and he's practically done it all so to speak.
Great video and good point about how a different sized tank might not work. I'd also add a different maturity level in your tank also means copying someone's 10 year old reef won't necessarily work if you want to model your brand new tank after it. I've taken different points from different tanks and discussions and through trial and error have found what works good for me. Not the quickest way, but I am happy with the overall quality of my tank and how much maintenance it requires. No point copying someones 50% water changes weekly if you have no means or time to do it 3 months later.
Love the video. I'm also using the Aquaforest Probiotic method. It has worked very very well for me. I love the flexibility of Aquaforest's products. They make all different types of products for different styles of tanks. With all of the success I've had with the Probiotic line, I'll be converting all of my tanks over to their products.
You are a good thinker in what concerns reef tanks. Have you ever wondered why, without exception, fish in captivity seem have half the vitality when compared to fish in the wild, no matter how big the tank?
Great video Than. Nice to see and have explained to us the difference between these 3 beautiful set ups and their upkeep/maintenance. Even though i am very familiar with all 3 channels, i still learned things about them. Awesome job, yet again.
I liked the Rico’s tank the most. Amazing colors and growth. And, wow, no water changes! Would be interesting to know their nitrate and phosphate levels.
As a new Hobbyist I love your videos thank you , I am taking your advice in doing my research , I have a simple question what do you think about the Triton Method as it seems simple and straight forward but would love your advice is possible. Again thanks for your videos and I will be a very good customer once I get up and running.
Love your videos . Is there anyway you can do a maintenance and care video on scroll coral? I have a L.A. Laker scroll and looking for some tips. Thanks
Great video and tank methodology comparison Than. Just goes to show there is more than one way to be successful in this hobby. I run my system by the "kiss" method very basic without high tech gadgets and kalk dosing.
We've had our system for 2 yrs and no water changes but we also don't run a sump. We have a HOB skimmer with a Fluval 406 running carbon, bio cylinders, calcium pellets. I'm making a chaeto reactor tho. Our tank is a 54gal corner bow front.
i think the aqua forest system is a very nice system. I ran my system using Red Sea coral plus but I am gradually adding AF reef salt to my system before adding the probiotics. What i learn from my LFS is that probiotic salt will strip your system of nutrients and all your corals, even sps will suffer and bleach out. so if you decide to go with probiotic salt from AF, slowly add it to your system.
I'm new to salt, but I never liked the results I got from no water changes or the drip method of automatic water changes. I am a huge believer in 25% twice weekly(I'm just planning my first venture into salt, so the costs of salt mix might change my mind on that). I also seriously LOVE feeding my fish, so it tends to be a heavier, more frequent feeding schedule, and I'm pretty sure that's related to my water change philosophy. Anyway, as a soon-to-be reefer with an interest in a mixed LPS/SPS reef tank with plans for a tank similar to these three in volume, I appreciate some more successful reefers to check out and steal ideas from.
I wanna talk about one of the Yellow Tang in Nathan's tank for a sec... The dorsal fin seems to be really badly damaged, despite the fish behaving rather healthfully. I'm guessing that it was damaged while being sick/fighting but has recovered. Is this normal in Yellow Tangs?
Hey, I love your videos i like how you set them up, and how informative they are. I want to point out something I've noticed. There are some sounds you can hear in the background when you speak, it is comparable to a crackling sound, it can be very distracting. I just wanted to suggest adjusting your microphone set up to avoid the sound. Thank you.
Than what are the bioload differences in the tanks? And possibly their implications in the method of filtration chosen? Sorry if I missed this in the video
Great video. I have a question about Strontium. Would a lack of Strontium cause the tissue of Euphyllia corals to recede up the skeleton until they died?
Great videos they really inspire me...this sounds weird but your voice also makes it easy to listen too...if you dont think so watch a video of BRS...well anyway always great vids man keep it up the great work..thank u
Amazing in-depth explanation Nathan. Thank you very much for bringing it to us. You pretty much summed up everything that a reefer needs to be successful. I personally like Rico’s tank just because he has achieved great success within a very short span of time and yet without water changes so thts commendable, having said that Nathan’s tank is on the same platform. Will’s tank is new so too early to say anything. I do a mixture of everything from the 3 tanks you show cased...i use Aquaforest A,B,F and E to add micro elements, use Kalkwasser to maintain my CA and Alk, Magnesium is dosed once a month using Randy’s 2 part receipe and SRO skimmer with Cheato in my sump. I also run Carbon and GFO in reactors 24/7....so in all I can say my system is a mixture of all these 3 tanks....lol....thank you for bringing this over..
Right now the simple method manual dosing & biweekly water changes, heavy skimming. Once neptune puts out the trident I'll get it & a dos. This is for a 3 month old 90 gallon SPS & fish tank.
Hi im sorry but i need your help , i have cube 15g, i have been doing cyckle by dropping food for amonia source .tank is 5 weeks old , ammonia is gone and i have diatoms since 2 weeks .I have stopped adding food as since 2 weeks No2 stays at max and No3 as well .2 weeks no2 dosent move down , i did 2 10% water change with 2 days break in between .No change in parameters no2 and no3 stays same and i did clean the substrate . I use tidal 55 with sponge and full with matrix , and Tunze 9001 skimmer , real reef rock 8kg , AF live sand , for water change i use original AF perfect water .Please help thank you
tanks solely lit by T5's look dull and too artificial, not sure why anyone would want a T5 setup considering how advanced LED's are today. Also, there's just too many variables in the equation to assert that corals color up better under T5's vs LED's. I personally have bought corals grown under T5's solely and after having been under a kessil A360 for some time they've colored up so much brighter and more vibrant, in some cases developed a totally different look. Surprising to hear you like the gyre pumps particularly you mention the maintenance on them which I've found to be a major chore compared to something like a vortech, having said that I do like the wide flow area they produce and they do move a lot of water but again I hate taking them apart for cleaning.
LED rave party looks far more fake than T5. LED is advanced in every way unimportant to growing coral. Sunrise, clouds, storms, colour control, all gimmicks. Stick a strip of royal blue on your T5 and its over for LED.
You sound like you're stuck in 2010, Ecotech and AI do a very good job these days with the dated disco ball effect as well as Kessil...nobody is really talking about that anymore unless you have an older fixture or a cheaper brand with inferior optics/lenses. Also, there's a plethora of videos on here with amazing looking tanks solely grown with LED that also experience great growth rates and awesome color so it's undeniable how effective and fully capable these modern LED fixtures are nowadays.
You clearly didn't watch the whole video, he said to most reefers this shimmer sometimes referred to as disco ball effect will not be noticeable to most reefers but to a few it MAY be noticeable. He also went on to say that T5's aren't natural looking because of the lack of shimmer which the sun naturally provides in reefs. The disco effect is minimal on higher quality LED's but if you wanna be anal about it then stick with the unnatural look of T5's. However, there's no denying that LED's are fully capable of making a tank look outstanding as well as grow coral with great growth rates without the hassle of replacing bulbs or the ugly giant dated fixtures you need to illuminate a large tank. LED's are becoming the standard if not already and that gap will only continue to grow.
very helpful, thanks, can you tell what is the sps in 16:33?, i have one and can not id it, i want to know if it needs lots of light, or it is a deep water acro? thank you
I stopped doing water changes as experiment. It's been a month with no water changes. I dose mag, calcium, strontium and iodine. I have a hang on the back fuge and my nitrates are pretty low.
That was fantastic. We are in the process of changing our tropical 6 foot tank to marines and have just emptied it out completely. I’m trying to gain as much knowledge as possible before we start building it up. Thank you so much for your video.
One of my all time favorit videos from tidal gardens.
I am sooooo happy you posted again I love this channel. It's just enough of knowledge but you keep it very interesting all the time.
Thank you! I'm glad you like the videos.
This vid gets better with your reefing knowledge each time you watch it! Thank you so much!Happy reefing and grow on :-)

Different Strokes for different folks 😏 great comparison... Rico's setup 👍🏼👍🏼
Very nice video, learn lots of new things and ideas 👍👍
Thanks for visiting

Great informational video of three beautiful systems, thanks!
Hello
Thanks for doing this. I love seeing parameters from great tanks but also knowing what equipment and how they dose it also nice to know.

I realy like these videos talking about ways to keep your tank great! Plz do more

I’m from the future and led did make some big improvements for the hobby.
Very good video
Very helpful video
Glad it was helpful!
Three GREAT TANKS, but Rico’s is by far the BEST in my opinion
I liked the Rico’s tank the most. Amazing colors and growth. And, wow, no water changes! Would be interesting to know their nitrate and phosphate levels.
Really great information. Thanks again Than

Thank you.

Awesome tanks, Than! Have you considered doing a video using the triton method? Were no water changes are needed?
Hey than. Question about your greenhouse and general business. What supplier do you get your corals from? Is everything 100% aqucultered?
I wanna talk about one of the Yellow Tang in Nathan's tank for a sec... The dorsal fin seems to be really badly damaged, despite the fish behaving rather healthfully. I'm guessing that it was damaged while being sick/fighting but has recovered. Is this normal in Yellow Tangs?
I have a RSM 500s 135g tank and I do a water change once a year...so far so good!
Hey David, I'm looking at purchasing that exact tank and was wondering if things are still going well with it? What mods, if any, have you done ?

No water changes would be sweet. Than, what do you think about Triton? They boast no w/c. Great video, love all 3 tanks
Than what are the bioload differences in the tanks? And possibly their implications in the method of filtration chosen? Sorry if I missed this in the video
Great video. I have a question about Strontium. Would a lack of Strontium cause the tissue of Euphyllia corals to recede up the skeleton until they died?
Brilliant video as always
Do any of these guys run UV sterilizers? Are they necessary?
Great videos they really inspire me...this sounds weird but your voice also makes it easy to listen too...if you dont think so watch a video of BRS...well anyway always great vids man keep it up the great work..thank u
Was the T5 tank the only tank with a clam?
I have thought about using Aqua forest. it's so much cheaper here in the UK. I would like to do more water changes and increase the bio load.
Great video bro always dropping sauce 💪🏽
There are great but the second one with all sps is beautiful
If you were going to use metal halide lighting what wattage and how far would you hang them from the surface of the water. for a Red Sea reefer 250
What is the Montipora in Will's tank at 4:52?
this is like an asmr, but great info!
What drone are you using for the aerial shots of the facility?
Mavic Pro
What about adding clams to filter water. Heard they help kinda like a sump

Tidal what is your best alkality level for spstank ? i mean for accelerated growth . Many people say 7-7,5 and also 9 dkH +
Geweldig !!
I have the icecap version of the gyre. Are there any real advantages to dishing out the extra money for the maxspect?
I haven't seen the two side by side, so unfortunately I don't know. I don't know the story why there are two models like that.
OG 225 peninsula. 3X 6105 flow + 800 GPG return, Halide + LED supplemental lighting 100% kalkwasser ATO + calcium reactor Monthly water changes. Euroreef skimmer + occasionally GFO. Lite feedings. SP dominated Biggest chore: clipping back and disposing of excess coral growth.
Right now the simple method manual dosing & biweekly water changes, heavy skimming. Once neptune puts out the trident I'll get it & a dos. This is for a 3 month old 90 gallon SPS & fish tank.
Awesome tanks

very helpful, thanks, can you tell what is the sps in 16:33?, i have one and can not id it, i want to know if it needs lots of light, or it is a deep water acro?
thank you
It is an Acropora of some type. That one needs plenty of light.
@@tidalgardens thank you :)), i like to here about flow in sps dominated tank, would be cool in future, thank you :)
I stopped doing water changes as experiment. It's been a month with no water changes. I dose mag, calcium, strontium and iodine. I have a hang on the back fuge and my nitrates are pretty low.
Same here, dose 2 part w/Iodide
0 h20 changes 6 mths 0 problems
Started to feel guilty like i should do them
ran a spectrum of tests w/no issues
How goes the no water changes guys?
3 great tanks.
Great video, no waterchanges rule! ;)
I would love it if zero water changes worked for me. I buy salt by the pallet load and that could be money spent on fun things!
Just live closer to the ocean 😂
Rico uses Arctic Revive leds
Anyone know what the 3:08 red coral is in ricos tank, havent seen it despite seeing his tank a lot
Montipora setosa
Tidal Gardens Inc. thx for the great vid!
4:54 what coral is that?
I believe it's a purple montipora undata
When you get the new building up and running are you going To Keith a greenhouse active
Yes, the greenhouse is going to stay active!
Rico uses the radion led
Yes, he uses them now. Back when this video was shot he was using Ocean Revive lights which I was unfamiliar with.
My kid brain 😂🤣😂🤣😂 gold . Good video m8
Really enjoying ur channel 😎 lots to catch up on
Thanks! I hope you enjoy.
Rico uses ocean revives
Didn’t one of them use zeovit?
Will used to use zeovit before trying aqua forest
Ocean Revive T247 LED fixtures
RICO uses ocean revive
My house is near the sea so I use water from the sea
i wish one day i could move to 0 water change !!!!!
Me too. I spend a fortune on salt each year, but for me it's something that works so well and has saved my system countless times.
Than, if you are ever in Elyria come check out my tank!
ace
What kind of clown is that at 15:28?????
The best method is to get out of the hobby.
SPL ha lol
so.. best is to do nothing about anything? so by your method, if the toilet is plugged you just never poop.
