- Using LUTS with DJI Mini 3 Pro D-Cinelike footage - some free one's I use, and please add yours in the comments...
D-cinelike is designed to capture a wide dynamic range from the sensor, and colours are distributed evenly so the dark part of a picture is greatly improved. It is not a real LUT, but a lower-contrast video with a flat colour profile, great for post-processing options.
When you then import this footage into whatever video processing software you are using - once you edit the footage down to what you want to use, and maybe add some music, the last part of the process is to "Colour Grade". You can do this manually every time, and add saturation, highlights etc to taste - or you can use a pre-built LUT to get close to the end result and then tweak.
I made a quick explainer for my process - but i don't claim to be an expert at this - I've just worked this stuff out for myself.
I have been using a free lut from NoamKroll for a few weeks - I got it here noamkroll.com/..., although not designed for DJI it was designed for cine-d and worked pretty well. I also use this more dramatic one (also free) • EDITA el D-CINELIKE 10... - and although I don't speak the language I worked out that the link for the Lut is and the password to open the zip is "megustanlosvideosdefelix" - it's a little dark, but once lightened up the colours look pretty nice.
Please add any free LUTS you find for D-Cinelike in the comments below...
My davince wont even read the files, finally someone sheds light on the 265 deal, thanks
I had the exact same issue! I’m super glad it was mentioned here 😃
You must copy and paste the lut into the DJI folder AND UPDATE THE FOLDERS
Is the 265 being read by Davinci?
Tenga su buen like gran hombre🙏🙏🙏
Hey mate, just wanted to say a big thank you.
I had filmed my first drone footage in D-cine at @264 and the free davinci didn't recognise the files.
I'll have a go at recording in 265 tomorrow and have a play around with the luts you've provided.
Much appreciated mate, I was scratching my head for hours
Thanks bud! Let me know how you get on with the h265 compression. It’s supposed to deliver 30-40% smaller file sizes at the same quality.
@@AdamOsoski worked a treat mate.
Only issue I got now is that cause it was an overcast day, I bumped up my ISO with an ND filter and some LUT's cause flickering on leaves and trees.
Trying to figure out how to reduce colour flickers to make it all look smooth
@@Fitzeh1 ok so thats all a little confusing - unless it's actually night time - your aim is to keep the ISO at 100 or as close to that as possible. Adding any Kind of ND filter reduces the light getting onto the sensor - you use them when there's too much sunlight to try and reduce the shutter speed down to somewhere between 60-200th of a second, because anything faster than that can cause the flickering you mentioned. If you set the iso higher - you probably increased the shutter speed as well - on a day like today, if i was using an ND filter at all it would be a 4 or an 8 max. there's loads of great youtube videos on ND filters and how and when to use them...
@@AdamOsoski yeah I think I fucked up the footage. Stupid me used a ND64 today with ISO 400 4k30fps 1/60 shutter 5600k WB.
The ISO would've been the culprit of the noise/flicker of trees and leaves in distance.
I'll need to order much lower ND filters.
@@Fitzeh1 so the ND64 took it down 6 stops - the iso 400 took it back up 4 stops lol - so an ND 4 would have been perfect at iso 100... you probably would have gotten away with iso 100, no ND filter at all and about 160th of a second shitter speed...
I just wanted to say thank you for including the password to the zip, I couldn't find it anywhere on his page.
Спасибо!
Thanks for doing this video. Am I missing links to the luts? Can’t seem to find them.
For some reason UA-cam removed the link to the Spanish one last week, but you should be able to go direct to their UA-cam and get the link from there. Fingers crossed. No idea what made them do that.
Is the D-cinelike the same as Log? if not what's the difference?
I’ve only used D-cinelike as that’s the option on the Mini 3 Pro but it’s explained here cultofdrone.com/d-cinelike-d-log-mode/
@@AdamOsoski I've read the article and it's helpful thank you but, does the Mini 3 pro have the normal mode or everything that comes out comes out in D-Cinelike?
@@Sir-Kay you choose normal or d-cinelike
@@AdamOsoski Ok, good to know that, thanks.
Question then - are you now stuffed with the mini 3 d cinelike format being 10 bit? i.e. Resolve won't process 10 bit in the free version?
It does process the 10 bit in the free version with no issues at all. You just need to use d265 compression in the drone…
@@AdamOsoski wow that's great news. All the search I did only indicates that 10 bit support only existed in studio. Thanks for the knowledge! Subscribed!
Slight caveat for anyone doing this. On windows you'll need to get HVEC codec pack from the Microsoft store. 99 cents! Prior to getting this davinci couldn't identify the 10 bit media. Works fine after a restart.
This is good to know and it will be what I try next. I've been using FFMPEG to convert the h264 files to ProRes codec first (DV Resolve free version accepts that format), but saving a step with h265 might be the way to go.
@@dalan81 Definately. D cinelike 10 bit h265 is nice to work with, plenty of information in the file for grading, correction etc.
Hello,
I was wondering do You know is it still so hard to find license for software? I was thinking of moving to DaVinci but I'm not sure since I'm unable to just pay it online and download the program
I use the free version of Davinci Resolve 18. It does everything I need with no money at all.
How do you get your video this clear? I am having a really hard time with glare / lines on buildings that make the video look somewhat distorted... especially when I load it into Divinci Resolve. When I pull up videos on my desktop player just to watch, everything looks perfectly fine. But as soon as I load it into Divinci Resolve, the quality of the video goes right out the window. I have tried messing with the settings in Divinci as far as quality, frame rate, etc. The only thing that helps is when I put it in 720P so you can't see detail lol. Am I shooting too high of quality video on the drone (3840x2160) and therefore it is hurting the quality in the editing process? Any help is GREATLY appreciated.
Hi Adam. I shoot in 4K 30FPS. I haven’t changed any of the default Davinci settings. It sounds like the computer you are using is struggling to process the 4K footage in real time. I use a MacBook Air, M1 chip with 16gb RAM. I think that’s about the minimum to successfully see the footage in Davinci. Maybe see if you can try some of your footage on someone else’s computer?
@@AdamOsoski I think I am going to give up on Divinci... Issue after issue. I am running a RTX 3070 with a Ryzen 9 5000 Series... I should be more than capable of editing 4K video. Now I am having issues with file location.. It just says that my media is offline now.
@@adamcassmedia Davinci has a really steep learning curve for sure. There’s plenty of other options out there. Unfortunately I’ve only ever used Davinci.
@@adamcassmedia you have to "change source location" for the offline media. you moved them to a different folder after you imported to Davinci. I have only ever used Davinci and have been using for 1 month and a half and I gotta say, it's a walk in the park.
Hi... I try to import the mini 3 D-cinelike to davinci resolve... But seems davinci not reaponding. Is there any setting to set up first before importing... Or only paid davinci?
Davinci seems to only import d-cinelike files that are saved in h265 format in the drone.
Probably you need the paid version for 10-bit D-cinelike, the free version supports only 8-bit color depth.
@@waveeu the free one works fine for me with d-cinelike as long as it’s in h265
Your audio is only working on the left.
Cheers - I only use one speaker, so can't tell lol... The sound track is supposed to be mono...
@@AdamOsoski you can right click on the audio track and set it to stereo! Look it up it's really easy. Just set the same mono track to channel 2 and it'll be a "stereo" track! Cheers
im importing h264 files from mini 3 and there is no problem. what do you mean by only import h265 from the drone?
In the free version of Davinci, most people can’t import h264 files if the drone is set to use 10bit d-cinelike mode to shoot… great if you can.
@@AdamOsoski Ah i see.. :) thanks
