Which block do you think is the most practical and why?
Karate Dojo waKu it depends, but i think that te nagashi uke and osae uke are the most practical.
@@widsonbcadet5630 Makes sense!
Hello
@@widsonbcadet5630 @Karate Dojo waKu what's the difference between those two (te nagashi uke & osae uke)?
Rei Pratama the difference is: osae uke you press de strike down. It’s the block you do in heain nidan and kanku dai before the shihon nukite. You do it also in heian sandan. With the te nagashi uke you deflect de punch. It’s the one you make in heain godan before the manji uke or after the morote uke. But it’s not the down one which is called shuto uchi komi, it’s the one over your shoulder.
Thank you very much Sensie for teaching us such important kinds of blockings
Love the way you start with the Japanese, spoken close to camera so it's easy to hear and see lip shape etc, and no annoying and distracting background music so easy to hear and follow your demonstration. Super clear. Thank you!
Grazie per il tuo impegno nella diffusione del Karate, non voglio sottovalutare il tuo impegno, dicendoti che ci sono parate che si studiano dopo un certo livello. Ben fatto comunque.
🥋👹🥋 Your Cobra Kai reaction video was great! You held back a little though. 😆
Haha thanks for checking it out!
Hi, These lessons are great , I've been practicing karate shotokan for 1and half month only, and this makes me improve a lot thank you. Claudio from Belgium
Thank you soo much! I have always had problems doing manji uke by over extending my positioning for my lower arm. You are a life saver!! Thank you Sensei!
I realize, that I definitely need to practice blocking more after watching this video. Thanks for the tips!
Glad you found it useful! Thanks for spending your time!
Thank you for making this video and sharing your knowledge with all....
Your hardwork is evident from the video.... A Lot of planing and effort has been made to create this videos which are well organized and edited....
Clear crisp explatinations and good English skills !!!
and i like your snappy kime!!
Outstanding as usual.
This is informative. This makes me want to learn Karate
I think u should because karate helps u with defence and offence just in case u get into a fight and u get flexible.I do karate my self it is very useful
@@usmanbashir9039 yes, I will start by the new year. Thanks!
I've always been a fan of your videos and I've always followed your basic karate work out.
Awesome tips Sensei. Thanks.
Good morning Sensei. Excellent explanations. My Sensei also liked it a lot. We appreciate the knowledge passed on. OSS !!!
Super cool tutorial!
Thanks for this video 📷❤
Thank you so much for sharing all you amazing videos with us brother!!!
plz make a similar video, in which you do all these blocks with a partner. thx
I've got to tell that you are a really good sensei. I'm doing karate and I can always learn something new or interesting from your videos. Sometimes I reckon if the sensei of ours really understand things like you or does not, because they don't say many important things..
I hope my grammer's alright, I'm not native speaker, resp. writer... 😅
This really helped me because i normally only block hands
Fantastic tutorial.
great dojo waku
Thanks!
Thank you Its very helpful video
Your move is perfect Sir..
Thank you sensei
Best as Allways!
Thanks a lot 🙏
Osu!
Great video 👏🏻
Thanks guy, you're Rock
I Iike how you used the words guide line. I will have to start using that.
Thank you
Congratulations on the video.
You could show what the initial and final greetings in the Dojo are like.
PS: If possible, add subtitles to the videos I'm from Brazil and that helps a LOT.
Thanks for listening.
Thank you idol❤
yes! yes! Exactly the video type you need to keep doing. Practical and theoretical coverage with Japanese background, this is quite unique in youtube karate field and you should keep making them.
Super Thanks! 🥋
Hello! It would be interesting to make a video on how to block a simple combination, like 1-2 from boxing. I did a few years Muay Thai and when I switched to karate, I saw that even brown belts have problems defending against a quick 1-2 attack.
Thanks for your nice vídeo. I miss Juji Uke
His blocks are so powerful, noice.
God bless thanks
1 tip from my sensei is always snap your hip to make your block stronger and to empower, prepare for a following punch with the other hand. Osu from Vietnam !!!
lot of important things i learnt just now🥋👍🙂
Please make a video on applications of these blocks
Hi Sensei, Would you make a video about how to move, both forward and backward, in kokutsu-dachi stance? I would like to know how to shift my gravity center to avoid unnecessary feet movement performing katas. Thanks in advance
Marvellous
Good video, please show the application for the ukes in another video
I love Manji Uke, although most blocks are practical, but to me, Manji Uke can be seen not only in Heian-Pinan Godan but in typical mae geri catch and leg sweeping from other Karate and combat styles which is universal.
Very helpfull with the correct pronounciation! Thank you! I see that among other styles Hiji Uke is called Kote Uke. Can you please explain what "Kote" means?
Great tutorial! Do you think you could add a double kick right after using a dropping block?
nice tutorial and pliz make vdo for bunkai traditional way application and real meaning behind the techniques ok kata..in a self defence (martial art)way not in sports way
Grande🇯🇵😊
These blocks are more advanced from the basic blocks
Kuma and manji look fine for me
Another great video. Are sokumen uke and kado uke interchangeable?
Can you show a practical application of the morota uke double block? I can't see it as being an effective double block because it isn't actually reinforcing anything. So I wonder if it doesn't have a separate purpose in the concept of receiving such as grappling.
very good, but one question, please: with age uke do I have to bend my back leg slightly as with other blocks as well? I know that the back leg has to be straight while punching but when I block?
Kumage uke palm heel Striking
Hello I love karate so how many days full training
Hey waKu I been stuffing karate for 12 years in goju ryu and 2 years in shito ryu I must know if I am doing my morote uke correct
Excelente explicação , seria melhor legenda em português
Whats the name of the "paint the fence" technique from karate kid?
'Manji uke' is not actually a parry. It is a corruption of an altogether different technique. The original technique was an avoidance in which tori leans backward, performing a gedan barai that may or may not be intended to parry a kick with the rear hand by the head. But the most important feature of this movement is to lean the head back and out of the way of a blow, either a punch or a kick. Think the shoulder roll in the Phillie shell and you get the idea. This is such an important concept that I cannot understand why Funakoshi allowed the change.
Hi. I was wandering if kado uke can be apply for the Pian sono yon (in kyokushin karate) since the position is the same but hands are open ? And btw if you can do more video of the name of the other block, punch and footsteps as well... arigatogazaimass
5:42 gedan badai is easy then others.
When I’m a bad position someone is trying to get to fight you what I do is cheat block then a face punch (in my perspective is morote uke) would I be doing it correctly?
When do we use which one?
Like in which Situation?
I am a white belt in wado ryu but we say Jodan uke instead of age uke
Age Uke!
If you don't mind, why do you think so?
In street fights for overhand punches and sucker punches, then an immediate follow up of gyaku zuki. 😅
Manji looking very familiar😳
I wish you had shown the blocks in action. Some of the blocks have always troubled me. The initial block in Heian Nidan was explained to me long ago as being Ude (our version of Uchi) Uke and Age Uke. It seems unlikely to me that this explanation is correct. Another is Morote Uke (or augmented block). The SKA almost always does this block very lightly. If it is done lightly, why is there a supporting hand. It must have been an important technique as it appears in so many Kata. I’ve NEVER seen it done in Kumite. Puzzling about this years back, I found that using the rear hand helps bring that hip into action. I started doing the block not with the little finger on the opposite elbow (as you do it and as the SKA does it), but with the whole palm open and supporting the blocking arm. I first tried this with an adult student. I did it lightly and to my surprise, I knocked her off her feet and sent her sliding across the floor on her back. Years later, I demonstrated it on a Black Belt who started about the same time that I did, 1966. Again I did it lightly, and again he went sliding across the floor on his back. Please try it as I explained it and let me know how it works for you. Not wanting to hurt my opponent, I have them stand sideways and cross their arms across their chest before I make contact.
Names applies to Wado as well or not
In WT Taekwondo these are, (1) Kumade uke = 𝗞𝗼𝗺𝘀𝗼𝗻 chigi or 𝗺𝗮𝗸𝗸𝗶, (2) Manji uke = 𝗪𝗮𝗲 𝗦𝗮𝗻𝘁𝗲𝘂𝗹 𝗺𝗮𝗸𝗸𝗶 (3) Kado uke = 𝗞𝗲𝘂𝗺𝗴𝗮𝗻𝗴 𝗠𝗼𝗺𝘁𝗼𝗻𝗴 𝗺𝗮𝗸𝗸𝗶, (4) Otoshi uke = 𝗡𝗮𝗲𝗿𝘆𝗼 𝗦𝗼𝗻𝗺𝗼𝗸 𝗺𝗮𝗸𝗸𝗶, (5) Morote uke = 𝗞𝗼𝗱𝗲𝘂𝗿𝗼 𝗔𝗻𝗽𝗮𝗹𝗺𝗼𝗸 𝗺𝗮𝗸𝗸𝗶 (6) Hiji Barai = 𝘋𝘰𝘦𝘴 𝘯𝘰𝘵 𝘦𝘹𝘪𝘴𝘵 𝘪𝘯 𝘞𝘛 𝘛𝘢𝘦𝘬𝘸𝘰𝘯𝘥𝘰, (7) Gedan Barai = 𝗔𝗿𝗮𝗲 𝗺𝗮𝗸𝗸𝗶, (8) Age uke = 𝗢𝗹𝗴𝘂𝗹 𝗺𝗮𝗸𝗸𝗶, (9) Soto Uke = 𝗔𝗮𝗻 𝗠𝗼𝗺𝘁𝗼𝗻𝗴 𝗺𝗮𝗸𝗸𝗶, Uchi Uke - 𝗔𝗻𝗽𝗮𝗹𝗺𝗼𝗸 𝗺𝗮𝗸𝗸𝗶 ( there is one more outward block with fist facing downward 𝗕𝗮𝗸𝗸𝗮𝘁 𝗺𝗮𝗸𝗸𝗶), (10) Shuto Uke = 𝗦𝗼𝗻𝗻𝗮𝗹 𝗺𝗮𝗸𝗸𝗶, (11) Kake uke = 𝘋𝘰𝘦𝘴 𝘯𝘰𝘵 𝘦𝘹𝘪𝘴𝘵 𝘪𝘯 𝘞𝘛 𝘛𝘢𝘦𝘬𝘸𝘰𝘯𝘥𝘰.
If Manji Uke is the name of the technique (defensive movement) in KankuDai, Whats the name of the similar technique in KankuSho? Excellent video!!
Percle Giovannangelo the same!
Thanks for asking! I think that one doesn't have a name.
Karate Dojo waKu yes it has one and the name is the same. Kankudai you do manji uke and then soto nagashi uke/ shuto uchikomi. For kanku sho you do manji uke and then awase zuki if you are JKA school, sokumen zuki if you are SKIF... etc.
Can you make a hook kick toturial
I have that already! Please search "Ura Mawashi Karate waKu"
Thanks
❤❤❤❤
dear, Love For Pakistan .
Paturo Po sir karate
Is Hiji Barai and Empi uke is same or not
Shitoryu/ shitokan/ gojuryu all are same block name or difrent plzz answer me
So when do you use HIJI barai?
1:00 so should I just ignore what I’m seeing
For gedan barai in the kata heian shodan, is hanmi still necessary? I'm really new to karate, so hip movement is still kinda foreign to me
All single hand block should be performed in hanmi. I know that it can be awkward in the beginning to use hanmi for blocks that syncronize with the hip movement, but try to square up the hip (shomen) before stepping out into hanmi.
To name a few: harai uke, nagashi uke, mawashi uke, osae uke, tsukami uke, juji uke......
Shouldn't the Kanji for ageuke be rather 上げ受け? I'm aware, that both Kanji (挙 and 上) have somehow similar meanings, but I think 上 is more common. My favorite is: 卍受付! Because it's very dynamic and controls 2 attackers at the same time.
0:59 oh. Umm thats a interesting shape to use...
thats what i was thinking
What about Mawashi Uke?
mawashi uke
What are the blocks used for
Ordering at McDonalds usually, but I’ve heard you can use them for other stuff too
Am I missing a block? Let me know if I am!
I have a problem with the first one name! I learn it as teisho uke, and i have a pdf of jion the call it teisho yoko uke. Can we use the both name komade and teisho or teisho uke is incorrect?
Are Kado uke and haiwan uke the same?
How about ashi uke
@@widsonbcadet5630 They're both correct!
@@widsonbcadet5630 I would say no. Haiwan basically means forearm, so any block that uses the forearm to block is haiwan uke!
Manji uke manji sai
Hangetsu
Hari
Wari uke
Why not use that block in Real karate fight?
1:00 oh No
Foot block
Mawashi uke may be missed.
1:01 AYO
Right?!! 😮😆
Oh😅 sorry Man i didnt know your style is shotokan. But i must say kake uke of gojuryu is different. İn cobra Kai reaction you didnt know it was kake uke of gojuryu.
"There are no blocks in Karate, only striking and locking." --Eizo Shimabukuro
"There is no 'uke' in karate. There is 'tsuki'(thrusting). There is 'Geri' (kicking). There is 'ate' (striking). But there is no 'uke' in karate."
--Teruo Chinen
Ooosss
How to use them in real fight or a match ? Make a video on that sensei
Manji uke: nazi block
