- Опубліковано 26 чер 2022
- My first day of exploring on the beautiful Greek island of Ikaria in the Aegean Sea. I go for a walk along the coast to Therma, where there is a hot spring in a cave right by the beach.

Thanks a lot for watching and safe journeys!
I almost have tears in my eyes. I spent seven summers in Ikaria on my late teens and early twenties. We were a bounch of us gathering there every years some from Gremany, France, USA, England. Our home was the beautiful sand on the beach of Armenistis where I had some of the best sleeps in my life in my sleeping bag under the glistering night sky. Wake up in the morning by the sunlight and dive right in to the crystal water, brush teeth and take wawalk up the rocks to the village where Mrs Maria will make you the best breakfast you had ever had. Then back down to the beach for the whole day of swimming, catching naps, reading books or making friends. At nightfall straight back up to the village for an epic dinner and lots of delicious Ikarian wine. Then back down to the beach building a beach fire with many friends around playing guitars, bongos and more wine. I can go on for ever. Great jod Gabe. I am very happy you had the chance to discover this Greek gem of an island. Btw, Ikarian people are the best!
Gabriel is 100% my favorite travel vlogger because he's:
- helpful
- friendly
- down to earth
- not afraid to have a little friendly chat with locals
- not afraid to explore little places like this with less tourist traps
- really nice
To me Gabriel is the most accurate representation of what a tourist should be. Greetings from Switzerland 👋🏻🇨🇭
Greetings from another Swiss guy 🇨🇭 I totally agree with you. He's also not afraid to make some little mistakes while speaking or giving information. No big show, just down to earth and honest.
You are in the world's blue zone 💙 Ikaria has an insanely high life expectancy 😁
Yep, I think because of the sun, food, siesta and no stress 🙂🙂. I want to move there 🙂🙂
Ive watched clips of elderly people that live there. When a 85 year old dies they say we lost a young one
@@anastasiosm1652 But I'm guessing they are not eating sausage and chips. Or paying £20 for the pleasure either!

No problem, thanks for watching.
Thanks, Gabi, where is the hole I can crawl inside you. Hahaha
Since watching your recent series Greece has ascended to the top of my travel destination list. These islands look like the perfect place to disconnect and relax. Merci!
Greece is awesome! You cant go wrong with any island you travel to because they are all so beautiful and have their own unique offerings. Hope you get to go real soon

Gabriel is one of the best storyteller there is!!! Time passes quickly when watching these videos! Lovely work
I love those Greek Islands - thanks for showing Gabe
Thank you for going to Icaria and the thermal spa. Bravo on speaking Greek !
I love the way you explain things in your videos Gabe, you make everything very easy to understand and you are so good at anticipating what questions people watching may ask before hand and it all makes for an outstanding vlog every time man! Btw I thought the older lady in hot springs was so cute she reminded me of my grandmother who sadly passed long ago. Thanks for another awesome video the hot springs were a nice touch!
Don't forget to visit Rhodes also, the Grand Palace of Knight's.
So nice to see your conversation. During our many travels the people we have met are some of the best experiences.
Loving all of your Greece videos bro! Definitely want to make it that way before summer ends!
the old school travel vlogger is living life!
Gabriel, you must get the honey on Ikaria. It's the best in the world. My cousins in brasil won awards for their honey, but it doesn't compare. If I'm sailing anywhere in the Aegean, I get as much honey as they will allow - this is the true nectar of the gods/goddesses...long life with honey from ikaria...sardinia has something similar but not on the level on ikaria
Nice video 👍and beautiful place. Thanks for sharing and enjoy your time in sunny Greece 🏝👍👏😁Cheers 🍻😁
gabriel don't forget to go to the small island of fournoi.it's very near by ferry to ikaria, maybe 40 min.there is great sea food there and many natural fjords unique among greek islands
I'm Chana and I'd like to expand my circle of friends, so I'd be very happy to meet you. I'll send you my email in case you'd like to chat.
Thank you for doing what you do. You're amazing & so adventurous. I appreciate it very much, and I'm sure everybody else does, too. 😃🙏
Another wonderful and interesting coverage, hope you're doing well Gabe.
Ah, Ikaria! ❤Will be going there too, can't wait to see my friends again, it's been a long time! About the myth: Daedalus invented the wings (amongst many other things) in order to escape king Minos' palace on Crete, his sun Ikaros fell in the Ikarian Sea, just south of Ikaria. Make sure to visit Armenistis-Nas-Raches (Raches nice at night, the shops open at night, not during the day), Theoskepasti, Seychelles.
Wow, he made it that far? Impressive. So the wings actually worked pretty darned well, for a while.
@@GabrielTravelerVideos Myths, whose roots are found in the vast Greek Mythology, have a symbolic character and an enlightening role, even for modern humanity. Distances, time, and sizes are relative. Read them so you can enjoy and be enlightened!
Once again!! Simply the Best!!! So cool.
Always great videos.
Thank you for these summer Vibes I miss Greece
Great storytelling in amazing locations, gosh the weather, the beauty of the place, the views jaw dropping stunning.
Ahhh, I had to wait ALL DAY before getting my Gabriel's travels fix! I'm watching my 3 young nephews while my sister is on a business trip. But watching these I feel like I have escaped, thanks for doing all the hard work for us.😎
We haven’t really seen so much from the island in the video, but it’s really beautiful. Beautiful villages, amazing beaches and wineyards.
Much more in the next video.
Ikaria finally! I’ve done that walk to Therma a few times.
Ikaria was the first island that I visited this past March. It was cold but I explored the island via motor scooter. I rented the motor scooter at Icarian Way in Agios Kirykos.
Geia Sou Gabriel.......have you ever been to the Frakto virgin forest in Greece? It is one of the most important virgin (primeval) forests left in Europe, and it is very near to Bulgaria. Also in the vicinity is the forest of Elatia, composed of the southern-most forest of Norwegian spruce--there are waterfalls and excellent hiking paths all around. Maybe you can visit this area before or after your excursion into Bulgaria. Further west in this northern part of Greece are the thermal springs Loutra Aridaias (also known as Pozar) where Alexander rested and healed his troops--very beautiful place where you can dip into hot and cold waters right next to each other. All the best........cheers!!
Sounds good . The forest mountain area around volos sounds good too
Greece is absolutely beautiful
Always pleasure watching Gabriel's solo travels around the globe.
Congratulations, Gabriel! On behalf of the Greek people, many thanks. For your viewers' information, we want to set the record straight about the Ikaros myth you mentioned in your video. The myth goes like this: Daidalos, who had made the Minoan Labyrinth, made wings for his son and himself so they could escape from Crete. When they were quite far, Ikaros, the son, was so enthusiastic about flying that he flew closer and closer to the sun and, as a result, fell into the sea. In memory of his son, Daidalos named this area of the Aegean Sea, the Ikarion Sea and the island Ikaria.
Have beautiful adventures exploring and traveling!
Thank you for the quick map of where your exploring 🇨🇦👍😎🎸
Good evening! Another great video. Appreciated the warm water scenes as I'm cold in the southern hemisphere winter in South Africa
Thank you for showing these parts of Greece. Very nice videos Gabriel. It is always very pleasant to hear people expressing their opinions without trying to persuade you about anyhing, just sharing experiences and places. Hope you continue your traveling and always have a nice time!
Love your previous Greek Series too. Watch them again to see the previous 40 islands you've visited 😂
Hallo my friend! I'm from Ikaria i live in therma.. i watch your video! Nice work!!
Great video....but you need more than two days for Ikaria.....if you can, check out the mountain village of Raches...very cool and surrounded by pine and wooded areas....you'll even find water falls on Ikaria...
GABE 😎 definitely GREECE is your top most favorite 🥰 country to travel in 👍🏻. Good for you. Mine is INCREDIBLE INDIA 🇮🇳🙏🏻🥰. Keep on rockin'🎸 it man!
@Ankit Bhatia Hi 👋🏻 there Ankit. How are you today? I fell in love with India 🇮🇳 when I visited for 48 days in 2019. You can check me out if you want on Instagram and see why. Briefly I'll tell you that the shanti and shakti I felt there were surreal plus the hospitality of the people, the beautiful architecture of the temples and mosques, the awesome 😎👍🏽 landscapes and the EPIC vegetarian food as I'm a vegetarian.
@Ankit Bhatia I understand that and saw that in some places but I also visited beautiful places in Himachal Pradesh, Orrisa, Bihar and Chandigarh. India 🇮🇳 has so much to offer and it's very different from Europe and The Americas 🌎. We all have differences and preferences. I am from The US 🇺🇸 and have been living in Colombia 🇨🇴 in South America for 24 years as an adult. I have enjoyed my time in The US and Colombia but it's time for me to go and explore India and Asia 🌏 for many years to come. There's a lot of poverty, crime, unemployment and contamination in the major cities of Colombia. Even The US is experiencing a lot of crime, deadly shootings as you may have seen on the news in the last few years, more unemployment and more poverty too. It's worldwide now with some countries being the exception like Finland, Norway, etc.
Gabriel, the best globetrotter...
I love your clips of Creece
Gabe this is an amazing island wow never heard of it before you presented it BUT I do know about Ikarios the myth
Beautiful view of Greece island
Thanks for all videos
The myth involves Daedalus and his son Icarus.
Daedalus was an architect and engineer who was hired by Cretan king Minos to design an build the labyrinth.
However, after the job was completed, king Minos told Daedalus that he and his son could never leave Crete in order for the secrets of the labyrinth's design could remain secret.
After some time in Crete, Daedalus decided to escape with his son and built two sets of wings like you described, telling his son not to fly close to the sun because the wax would melt.
After their escape from Crete however, Icarus did not pay attention and flew close to the sun, ending up crashing in to the sea close to Icaria.
Because of this, the sea there is called Icarian sea, the island is named Icaria and the Hellenic Air Force academy is called Icarus School, with the cadets called Icaroi (oi is pronounced as i or e, indicating the plural form of Icarus).
I'm in kefalonia now.
The greenery here is amazing
One of the 5 blue zone! Amazing place! 👍
I also remembered something I was told by locals when going to the hot spring, to wear water shoes! I hope you had some on ;) Those rocks are sharp!
A blessed good day sir Gabe thank u so much for your wonderful walk around relaxing you there in ikarua Island Greece stay safe Godbless u from your solid fan supporter viewer from the Philippines 🇵🇭 sir Marvin ❤️👏👏♥️🙂😊♥️🙏
Greece is my favorite country. What is your favorite island in the Greece??
Great video overall :) Some fun facts about Icaria : Icaria is actually the island that Icarus fallen on to and died after he went too close to the Sun. His Father Dedalos (an architect and engineer and creator of the wings) actually survived the flight and saw his son die , the myth of course is a criticism on the naivity of the youth that often not to listen to their parents but also its a worship of daredevils that push the boundaries of science. Icaria not only has the longest life expextancy in Greece with people reaching ages over 90 but is also where the so called "Mediteranean diet" comes from as the scientists used the diet of the locals as a guide for healthy eating. The diet is nothing special for Greek standards its a standard small Greek island diet which is characterised with very low fat meats , plenty of fresh fish and of course a lot of vegetables.
Thank you brother for showing my country ! Mythos , Fix , alpha are commercial beers like Heineken , Amstel. You would be amazed by the small breweries we have in Greece that produce quality beer
I was supposed to go to Ikaria when the pandemic struck the world. One day I will. But next visit will be the Sporades island in two weeks. Thanks for another informative video from you.
It is not pandemic, this is plandemic! Just go! No waite!
I remember doing that exact walk a handful of times during my visit summer 2022
Loved it I’m adding it to my itinerary!
Thanks Gabriel 🙏🏼

Hi Gabriel, it's always good to run into some fellow travelers, they always have suggestions on where to go and what to see and I am surprised that Iceland isn't on the list of blue zones with their geothermal spots.
Great Video. Thank you for posting.
Thank you for documenting this now I have a better idea of what island to visit in Greece.
Gabriel, come to Santorini, I'm there now. It's the most beautiful island in Greece
He has got some videos rom santorini
Been there four times and will be happy to go back, it exceeds the hype. The crowds and prices are the only downside: ua-cam.com/users/gabejedmosearch?query=Santorini
wow 555,000 subs! congrats Gabriel!
Love how kind you are to the locals.
Have you ever been to Fiji?
If so do you have any suggestions?
Always love your Greek island hoping segments. Only been to Kos and Rhodes myself. Got the perfect guides and choices to choose from when i go back!
10:56 Those little shrines are usually put on a place where a car accident took place and someone died , so it's a way to remember them and pay respect .
Looking forward to Bulgaria videos
That beer sure looked good
Ikaria is definitely one of my favorite islands. Its too bad I wasn't making travel videos yet when I went there. I did the hot springs, really cool.
I love how you respect people's privacy and don't go blasting the camera over them. Greetings from a Greek! Sometimes I feel that we don't deserve the good words you say about our place..
Super excited to see you Gabe on Paros xxx
Ikaria is one of the blue zones of the world where people have a very long life , and where a lot centurions live. Other blue zones are in Japan, Costa Rica ,Italy and maybe in California too.
Now that's much better Gabriel!!!!
June !! Never again in August!!
Lovely Gabe.. Good man👍🇬🇷
Thanks Gabe
Love the sunglasses!
Greece is very beautiful place. Food is very expensive. 😃
It does seem very expensive, and I live near a touristy city in Canada (for comparison). It's about the same prices as here. Odd, but may be the touristy thing.
@@Chahlie thanks, I been to Vancouver and food is great and affordable, and I would still go Greece again 😃👍
The average cost is around 25 euros @ tavernas (greek restaurants) per person,it is cheaper to get pita gyros or pita souvlaki and a beer for 12 euros. Fruits though are cheap.
Avoid horiatiki salad ,get tomato salad instead cheaper but without feta.
The restaurant prices seem to have been doubled since 2019, yet Greece is an affordable destination nowadays ...
I'm in Kefalonia and can confirm prices for food are indeed not exactly cheap.
I mean I see Greek salads for 10 euros in places. Main course meals 18 euros. At least the meals are prepared with care and fish is always fresh. So take what you will from that.
We never buy car insurance because credit card you pay with has car insurance coverage. I heard they don’t use clocks or watches on Ikaria so be prepared… cute the lady at the end asking questions about your travel job. You should send her your channel. She will love it I’m sure.
Beautiful
Awesome video Gabe! Love watching these and I can’t wait til you go back to Bulgaria! 🇧🇬
also, I can’t believe Loma Linda, CA is a part of the blue zones.
Love Ellada
Finally ikaria 👍
Good video. Nice
20:24 I heard a little about this phenomenon and was interested. Basically, this is due to a special social atmosphere based on family traditions of cohabitation of different generations.
Greece island is really beautiful
That lunch sounds frigging delicious! Thanks for telling us the Icarus story. 🙌
Loved the intro music!!
Like this job
I hope you are going to Italy when you are done exploring Greece. 💚
He's been to Italy lately
Actually the thermai hot springs on icaria is one of two radioactive ones in Greece the second being on northern Greece. Good for your joints but not for long. You can stay in this hot water for about a quarter of an hour because of the isotopes. Nobody seems to know this.
Doing the sporades in 4 weeks have thanks for the excellent heads up as usual 😎
i love Ikaria
Gabriel Icarus flight started from Crete but he drowned at the sea on the west tip of Icaria.Thats why the specific Island took his name and the sea west of Icaria named Icarian sea.
Got it, thanks for the info.
That place you showed at the beginning was one of the nicer places you've stayed and Kundalini and the Art of Being is great, adventurous, vulnerable and well written book--- Everyone who likes your channel would benefit by getting it....
Good to hear, thanks for reading it.
Yes ssss... that is my island I want to visit seem so therapeutic and into the blue zone ...hope you go to seychelle beach!,, ... merci !
Lovely scenery, and delicious looking food! Is the car you rented an automatic or manual? Thanks.
You are not playing around with these videos sir. Wheeeeeew I'm soooo far behind on your stuff I've got my work cut out for me. I can't wait to watch that Maldives series.
Cheers 🙏❤️
Very nice videos from a very cool traveler that likes my country :) Keep going! Just dont forget that Greece is not only aigian sea and cyclades /dwdekanise islands. You will find a total diferent landscape at the eptanisa islands on the ionian sea and also there are great places at mainland (for example a tour at pelloponise is a must during summer).
Are you going also to Athens?
You are one of my favorite UA-camrs. So honest and clear in your videos
Fantastic Greek journey! At least you don't have to show off nothing but fancy class for airlines and luxury hotels. We enjoyed watching your odysseus trips, thanks.
