I didn't know Okap lacked modern quality housing. Sounds like a business opportunity to me....🤔

But, is Cap-Haitian prepared to receive them? Is it better for an historical town where our country's story seems soo close to us to have modern quality housing?🤔
      I don't think!

    • @ruttyb

The historical part is only downtown. I’m not talking about that area & wouldn’t even expect to find a house in that area & definitely didn’t search in that area. Okap is larger than downtown. There are new homes being built each day & they are in the standard style (for the most part).

As always, great informative video Rutty. The other day I had a good debate with some friends and I was telling them whoever has property needs to be extremely patient with our crisis because properties in Haiti will be booming once we are stable. I say this with 1000% confidence because one of my great uncles has our family home in Pestel, Jeremie. Since the crisis of PAP got worst, between last January and now, he has had over 100 people asking if he wants to sell because the house was well-constructed, has beautiful garden and amazing yards. For the people also interested in architecture, urbanism, those will make good profits because either we want to admit it or not, many people from the Diaspora are making a return back home or planning it as they are tired of America.

I remember in OKap the electricity at the hotel was pretty much out between the hours of 11 and 2 inconsistently. This was a beautiful ocean view hotel. We didn't mind since we were out exploring during the day. I really enjoy Haiti. Shame what's going on in Port au Prince.

When i visited Haiti, I had the pleasure of riding with my hosts from PAP to OKap. The drive took maybe 8 hours along the west coast, then weaving through the mountains. It was a very memorable experience 😂

We drove through a small village where we were immediately stopped by a handful of residents who tried to charge us a toll. Lol. My driver maneuvered off the road and drove around the small gang. Hilarious 😂

Spot on analysis. Besides Lea Market there is very few options for supermarkets. The roads are also in much poorer condition in Okap and the hundreds of three wheel taxis are a complete chaos on the roads. Okap could be so much more but the trash and lack of infrastructure make it very disappointing. That said it’s one of the best cities to live in Haiti, hands down. PAP is unlivable, a true nightmare in every sense of the word.

For water, the house already had a well & pump installed. When we’re close to running out of water, we turn on the generator & the pump sends water to the water tank.
