The quilt blocks for Spring Thaw are assembled like a nine-patch block. Half of the patches in the nine-patch are made from pieced units, and Sara shows how to create those units. Once the blocks are made and the quilt top is ready, it's time to choose batting. Sara shows a sample pack of Hobbs Batting and flips through it while talking about the different reasons you might choose one batting over another. She recommends Hobbs Tuscany Silk batting for a lighter weight quilt like the one she was making.
On a package of batting from the store, there's some helpful information on the front of the package, and Sara talks about what several of those pieces of information mean in terms of choosing a batting type for your project. She then points out what type of quilting she used for her quilt and discusses why she had it quilted that way.

I had taken a class on a quilt from a Tahitian quiltmaker - from Tahiti - whom instructed us on not even using a batting or a backing...essentially sewing/ piecing a 1 layer fabric for use while living in the heat of the Caribbean.... she also mentioned a top and a backing work well as a quilt to be used in these hot weather areas (sometimes the Hawaiian quilt makers make their quilts this way) ...it's still a quilt.
Interesting that silk batting can be made. Will have to try one inside a baby's quilt...

Do you have a pattern with sizes to cut the fabric?

Very easy pattern and oh, so pretty! Fabric choice is beautiful. I have never tried the silk batting but would like to give it a try. Also, your blouse is very pretty. Thanks.

Your video says to cut 3 sets of strips but only shows you using two of them. How does the other set come in? You also say to cut some 5 1 winch strips but you don’t do that in your video. Before I begin I’d like to know these things. Thank you.
