Would be interested in the source of the covers too!Very nice machine, lots of work involved in such a project. I am currently retrofitting an old deckel and witout the mechanics it allready is a huge project.

Did you have those way covers custom built? I tried somethin off the shelf with the seller but couldn't see much and he's asking for $300 for a 500mm wide, 600mm stroke one single cover.

  • @МихаилАлександрвич

You probably mean 45mm Hiwin gideways, not 40mm ?

Stef, I really enjoyed watching this machine come together. Congratulations. Can you provide more details about your way covers and how they attach? Thanks.

Just drilled small hole in the end plate and out a small bolt tough that hole. It doesn't need that much force to keep in place.

@@Svanitterzon If you have any close up shots of how you did it that would be a great help. I would love to add these covers to my machine.

Hello Stef ! Yours are rare videos of DIY epoxy granite machines , big effort and hope you all ends well. My question is about the toolsetter , did you test it for accuracy yet? I mounted one on a cnc router but never tested it how precise it gets, if it can keep to 0.01mm tolerance thats ok.

Im aware there are not much movies about EG machines out there on youtube. I like to share my content with you on the progress i make.
I didn't do any test on the tool setter yet. i think the accuracy will come with the feed rate you hit the tool setter. definitely will do some test later on.

@@Svanitterzon Years ago I planned to cast my machine in EG similar in size , weight of EG about 800kg . but gave up after buying couple of old VMC's . One got Linuxcnc right away and other one larger is planned to be upgraded in next couple of weeks when it gets free from jobs.

Danilo Macanović it would take less time & money to retrofit an old manual mill to CNC.
Good machines come up frequently on used market in $1000-3000 range. They are pain to move but once that is done, the rest is (relatively) easy.
Retrofit electronics on an old VMC should be even quicker as there are no mechanical components to fudge with.

Ro K yes but you don’t get the satisfaction in doing it entirely your way.

I can’t see an old machine with dovetails being able to maintain anywhere near the accuracy and speed of a solid linear rails set up.
I have a “manual mill” that I converted 10 years ago and the dovetails are shot. When I start adding up the cost and effort to add linear rails I start to realize the only things I may keep in the spindle…. And if I want to have a tool changer I may not keep any of my current mill….
