It's especially hilarious when you realize he saw us kill Archimonde and the Legion on Draenor, and he now thinks the Legion (and Kil'jaeden) can stop us.
What the Legion had on Draenor was ridiculously small. Archimonde came with only a few generals, and was probably very cocky.
He saw us kill archimonde, but the legion was not really on draenor yet. Gul'dan had just opened the portal in HFC when we started the archi fight. Now, the portal is open long before we get to the broken isles
So much lore, whatever you are doing Blizzard keep it up.

I agree, this is the way how expansions should be released and introduced besides doing the basic good works; ensure in beginning there is lots content to do and do regular content adding patches (selfie cam does not count as added content :P). You can keep adding lots content patches to cover invasion and other threats to strike on players/Azeroth while invasion is going on.
Legion is the only game I've ever pre-ordered, and it looks like I will be glad I did.
"It is the beginning of Azeroth's end..." what a terrifying voice. Such a powerful character, Kil'jaeden.
Wow. That section with Gul'dan making his decision in the face of the tireless bravery of heroes standing together--that score and those words gave me chills. Absolutely well done, Blizz.

I love how maiev just landed and khadgar blinked. You know, because when blink was first introduced it was Maiev's ability.
Too bad we didn't get to choose to be a warden or a demon hunter, that would've been absolutely amazing.
I feel this audio series really added to Gul'dans character, making it less cheap (as in, bringing back a dead villain) to making him have his own personality, with the constant ''That wasn't me''.

VSGU TheOPCrown What I meant was, Wardens are sworn enemies with the demon hunters and sort of the counter part to them.
They are also like demon hunters (going by the name's meaning), except they don't tolerate fel.
The classes I've always wanted were:
Demon hunter, Death knight, Necromancer and Warden.
2 down, two to go.
Sadly we may never get warden, since they're also strictly night elves (they could've made a blood elf version, some blood elf equivalent from ancient times, or a spell breaker style class or something that is the same as the warden)
Fingers crossed on Necromancer though.

Ever since the announcement of Legion, I've been speculating how the alternate Gul'dan will react once he learns there was another Gul'dan and what happened to him. Now we know why the guardians of the tomb killed the original Gul'dan. He wanted to use that power for his own needs, while Kil'jaeden wanted him to open the portal. This Gul'dan tried to do the same, but was reminded how we thwarted his plans on Draenor. He simply needs the Legion. That was a great prelude to Legion.
I don't think the original Gul'dan got far enough to even make the decision whether it'd be his own power to use, or his own power to lend to the legion. KJ says that the betrayal happened when he split the horde, so it seems to have a few extra layers than that.
Gul'dan abandoned the Horde and traveled to the Broken Isles in an attempt to claim the Eye of Sargeras, which he had learned about from Medivh, IIRC. He likely never even knew about the portal within, and was killed by the demons almost immediately upon arrival.
I sorta wanted him to find his old skull and have creepy one-sided conversations with it about how much he hates adventurers ransacking his various citadels.
+Nathan “Norse” Baker the skull would no longer be there. it was given to Illidan by the dreadlords in warcraft 3.
It wasn't "given". Illidan took it, claimed it's power and then killed Tichondrius (the Dreadlord that had the Skull).

Kil Jaeden gave guldan the vision of despair that is the plot twist...and guldan gave the power back cause of the despair.. :)

Gul'Dan became aware of the futility of being a raidboss
and so becomes a mid-level raid boss with trash mobs.
I love these. Specifically, i love how this story respects the lore decisions that have been made, it doesn't try to hide all the time travel and alternate universe implications. It shines with confidence and gives me hope that you know where you're going with the story and aren't just making things up with no regard to the consequences.
It also toys with other perspectives of the war, which is cool. It's really interesting to see Gul'dan remark all the victories against the Burning Legion and consider if maybe they're on the losing side. The thought process Gul'dan has when he considers going solo really speaks to his character, and Kil'jaedens respons when he tries to persuade him to obey really shows of his manipulative and deceiving nature.
Great job.

I have to admit, you did brilliantly with this, Blizzard. Really sets up the expansion well, and the voice acting is even better than I expected (I looked the chap up, he's a real veteran!) and the music and effects were perfect. Thank you!
I am loving so much how they are incorporating the heroes so well. They have been mentioned so much now in this and in Illidan's book. I just love how the character we make are finally starting to become part of the Lore.
I know blizzard has been doing short pre-expansion stories like these for a while, but these audio dramas are so much more interesting then simply reading them, I hope you all do more in the future.
I love how since the complaints of loneliness in Warlord's, that Blizz' have incorporated a sense of unity even into their stories now. I really really do love it. :')

I like Gul'dans voice in this a lot more than the one in the game. I never took him to be such a deep voiced character, especially when you consider how feeble his physique and bodily well being always was.
Man what an episode, Kil'Jaeden schooled Gul'dan like a true boss. And that 2v1 fight and the OST during the opening of the portal. This whole story has been 10/10 easily.
This is the old Blizzard storytelling we all love. Referencing the players was great.
I think audio books are way better than e-books especially with this narrator. Btw Thanks Blizz for making this public availlable.

I always said we need a 3rd playable faction where these race/classes serve the legion
The Legion are actually good guys. Azeroth houses the most powerful unborn Titan known, and the old gods want to possess that Titan and unmake the universe in the name of their creator, the Void Gods. The only way the old gods can possess a Titan is in its unborn stage as a World Soul. Sargeras and the Legion simply want to wipe out all life so the old gods have nothing to feed on, and then remake life in their image.
That's called being Chaotic Good. Legion is Chaotic Good. while the Old Gods is Chaotic Evil.
Khadgar: "They have an army!"

That ending gave me goosebumps of what happened in warcraft III reign of chaos were you just see Medivh flying to all the leaders trying to get them to move to Kalimdor and unite against the Legion.

In its own right, it is a redemption story ,methinks. Gul'dan learned to trust and put faith in others instead of clutching onto his own power.
Sadly those "others" seek an end of all life.
I really like how patient and tolerant is Kil'jaeden, befitting the master schemer and arch-manipulator he is often portrayed as. After all the sass Gul'dan gave him, it is amazing that the eredar is willing to disregard that and hold up his end of the deal, all because he sees Gul'dan's potential as an officer in the BL.
This is also really important, because it reinforces that Kil'jaeden greatly prefers to recruit people and civilizations into the BL to destroying them (the earlier parts also implied this with him not allowing Gul'dan to kill Khadgar and Maiev at first) and this is no empty promise on his part, he really does recruit people into the BL. It also makes joining the BL a realistic alternative, instead of a monumentally stupid and suicidal decision.
I feel the magic coming back with this expansion. The enormous class changes, the harbinger series, these audiobooks. I'm just so excited to see Blizzard actually putting some soul back into their game. You can really feel the love and the effort they're pouring into this expansion. Haven't been this excited for an expansion since BC/Wrath days.
For those that dont know who Kiljaedan is :
1.He is an Eredar Lord of Argus along side Archimonde and Velen.He later joined the Burning Legion with Archimonde while Velen fled.For his service,he was gifted with vast amounts of cosmic power by Sargeras.Even on Argus he was considered the most powerful and intelligent of all the Eredar(who as a race were known to be extremely intelligent).
2.He is one of the oldest villians in all of Warcraft,having appeared all the way back in Warcraft 2,along with Sargeras.However after all these years he has never truly suffered any heavy defeats mainly because unlike Archimonde,Kilj is a manipulator and likes to stay in the shadows and let his minions do the dirty work for him,hence earning his nickname the Deciever.
3.Corrupting the Orcs and creating the Fel Horde was his idea;It was he who famously created the Lich King;It was he who mentored Guldan in the art of Fel magic;He recruited Illidan and caused the events of Warcraft 3:The Frozen Throne;He was the one that corrupted Kaelthas.He almost defeated the Heroes of Azeroth at the Sunwell,but Anveena the very essence of the Sunwell turned against him and helped banish him from the world.
Kiljaedan is one of the most powerful beings in all of Warcraft.His scheming and manipulative nature,combined with his tremendous power, makes him one of the best villians Warcraft has ever produced.

Kil'jaeden is realy a Deceiver look how he played guldan to give his power back
But he never lied. It was not deceit, Kil'Jaeden spoke the truth. He would fight with the Legion, or stand alone.
Synthetic Legion He deceived him that the legion will eventually come to Azeroth and Gul'dan will dies alone.
That is nonsensical, if they can actually get to Azeroth then they have no need for Gul'dan. By saying he will dies alone, implemented a doubt within him.

I don't believe this to be the last one either.
It must connect the characters from Harbringer, i think we might see some ties to Illidan tomorow.
And probably some links to the alliance/horde that appeared in the cinematic.

It is in the 3rd part I think it was where it was alluded that the legion might have plans for Khadgar that's why Kil'Jaeden doesn't want Gul'Dan to kill Khadgar well in the Khadgar segment of Harbringer series we actually see that play out Khadgar is very freaked out at the start of it and now we know why also we see a Dread Lord in the guise of Khadgar's old mentor Medivh try to tempt and corrupt Khadgar by offering him the power to defeat the legion needless to say that did not go over well for the Dread Lord

I think Sargeras will take host of someone's body and that would be the final boss. but would be cool if we could go to the eredar world and take the fight to them after legion and kill kj

The first tier is Gul'dan. There's another two tiers in the epansion
Kil'jaden will probably be Final Boss for Argus. The final boss for Legion is probably Medivh, Khadgar, Council of Six or the Avatar of Sargeras, which is only a fraction of Sargeras' power.

so since this is the last part, how do they explain the cinematic where gul'dan discovers illidan's body?
The vault is probably gul'dan's next point of call, probably after they enslave suramar.... :o
Im guessing that since Guldan has such a yearning for betrayal. He goes to the Vault where the Wardens are currently defending Illidan, kills most if not all of them, and releases Illidan and use his power against the Legion.
That's him entering the vault of the wardens, it is explained you just need to wait to play it :P When they mention the demons sprawling over the land they ran on over the vault and assaulted it. Hence why Maiev lets the demon hunters out.
Doesn't that happen in the Demon Hunter starting area?
That happens slightly later, during the demon hunter introduction.

This is some of the best lore telling to ever come out from Blizzard. Well written, but even better narrated and acted. Please use Steven Pacey more in the future. His voice is perfect for the Warcraft lore!
This was epic! It took me back to my childhood listening to all sorts of spoken book dramas on BBC radio. And I have to say, this is how I always imagined Khadgar would sound. In fact, I was quite shocked when I heard WoD Khadgar with an American accent, as I thought people from Lordaeron would sound English like their neighbours the Gilneans, like Dalaran would be some sort of Oxbridge. Oh well.
Small plot hole right there, Gul'dan could have killed Maiev and Khadgar AND THEN open the way for the Legion. Even if Gul'dan had an epiphany he still hated Khadgar. But I guess if Khadgar was not his biggest threat in this world killing him or not would make no difference.
EDIT: come to think about it, he said he wanted to make Khadgar suffer, not only kill him, so bringing about the Legion and Khadgar's failure before his eyes would have done the trick.
Kil'jaeden said that neigther Gul'dan nor Khadgar was to die on this day, he followed orders. Maiev couldve been killed without problems but Khadgar was ordered to be alive.
I imagine Gul'dan probably wanted to take the deal instead of waiting till later to find it null, that or he wanted to see Khadgar panic
Khadgar might have been left alive simply for the last confrontation between Gul'dan, him and Maiev. For if the two would not have attacked relentlessly - Gul'Dan might not have realized his future upon this world so soon if at all. And would not have opened the portal and submitted to the rule of Kil'jaeden. Just a theory.
Though the mages uses might be revealed even more in the future - seeing as Kil'jaeden has been shaped-out to look like a master manipulator. Just like Tzeentch from warhammer :D
Olav Lomeland Kil'Jaeden later changed his mind, but only because whatever he has planned for Khadgar is less important than opening the portal. I don't know, Gul'dan (at least our Gul'dan) is known to be evil and defiant, it's weird that someone is puppeting him around (even Kil'Jaeden, the master puppeteer). Nevertheless, that power struggle has ended and now Gul'dan is more dangerous than ever, I like to see that. He is clearly different from our reality's.
I don't think he could --- if he tried to kill him alot of his powers would go down because they are stubborn and would not go down so easily ------ he/killjai would not be able to activate the portal---- well just my thought
so is Guldan on par with KJ with the power he took? I mean if KJ could have crushed him, he would have.
I don't think so. Gul'dan is pretty powerful, powerful enough to be considered one of the strongest mortal races in the game, but he ain't our old boy KJ strong.
I doubt it. KJ probably could have killed him, but then there would be no one to open the portal. Which is why he gave Guldan a choice instead of killing him outright.
He wouldn't have. Since Gul'dan is the only person who can open the portal to usher Azeroth in the largest demon invasion ever, Kil'jaeden would have not killed Gul'dan otherwise the Legion would have no way to enter Azeroth.
KJ could have killed him but Gul' Dan had absorbed the power that was needed to open the portal to Azeroth. Killing him would have been another major set back. Probably.
they couldnt do anything until gul'dan opened the rift.

I love how Kil'Jaden showed how Gul'dan had 0 chance against Azeroth alone. No matter how strong Gul'dan was.
And that was all he needed to make Gul'dan his puppet again.

Amazing, All this delicious lore, books (Chronicles Volume 1, soon volume 2), comics, videos and audio readings, my god this expansion has so much heart and soul in it, it's breathtakingly well organized, I hope this spells a new beginning for Blizzard and I hope they follow suit with future expansions, played for 10 years hope to continue for another 10 at this rate! :D
