- After seeing pictures of this place online, we really wanted to explore it. It seems that it wasn't as deserted as it once might have been. We pushed our luck after the first attempt and things went south.

Love how you aren't so dramatic about this like other youtubers are
yea, many are way too dramatic and put on a show.
I agree 100%
That's what I absolutely love about this channel. They invited Exploring With Josh along with them for one episode and he was SO incredibly annoying.
Other youtubers get a tiny cut on their arm and start limping like they broke their leg
Yup... agree these guys are real deal COOL 💥
You guys are ballsy. There were so many lights on. It almost didnt look abandond. I would've turned around.
Didn't sound abandoned either
I recall them being at a similar location before, with lights on and some noise from transformers and stuff. Might be that there are parts of the facility that are still active. That often is the case with nuclear plants. Might also be a safety measure to deter people from entering.
that wasn't abandoned the pumps were still running within the premisis & it was completely powered up
if its still even partly operational the security took way to long to spot them
@@jasinere35 No, it was abandoned with parts of the facility still operating.
This is what happens usually when decommissioning a nuclear power plant. Usually parts of the facility are used to help clean out the local power lines after the nuclear power plant has been decommissioned, or is going through decommissioning.
FINALLY! A youtuber who is actually logical and doesn't over-dramatize every video they upload, and does cool and interesting explorations.
I agree
What do you mean overdramatize? Just curious...do you mean like excessive dialogue? Can you share an example of a youtuber that overdoes it? I would like to compare.
@@JonAcostaArt Exploring with josh is a good example. Going into abandoned places with no background history and overdramatizing every detail. Clickbait titles are used when nothing really happens and minority dangerous things are portrayed as death-defying. The people filming are always front and center yelling and the building is just background.
@@ashtonlove5161 Dude, I remembered your last message and went to see this "Exploring with Josh" (watched the abandoned Louisiana prison episode)...you're right, what a flippin' JOKE. I mean yeah, they show a lot but it feels like they are visiting a walmart around the corner after closing hours and just playing manhunt.
I wave "bye-bye" and then I bolted away. LMAO
Haha that was hilarious.
haha. gotta get creative when you don't know the language
That was so funny! ☺
horsee
Bye bye, you won't get me now, HAHAHAHA!
That timing with the door opening and the whole “bye bye” is like something out of a thriller movie, that was incredible
Just bad timing, the plant is being prepped to be operational again by November. It's now officially sold and will be running active at least all winter. Crazy because i live only 3 blocks away, and there are more than enough hiding spots on both sides of the river :)
Wow.
which country is it ?
The guard spoke French, so probably France
@@benabadie7351 I found out! On the cooling tower it wrote in dutch,so it's Belgium!
Seeing the cooling tower from the inside must have been very impressive!
alot of decommissioned power plants are still used as sub stations and relay stations they cant just cut the lines and call it finished it would cost alot to revert the facility so instead they shut the main parts down and keep the sub lines/etc running as you heard.. hearing that pump running in the background would be a good indication it was still being used for a purpose
as soon as the door opened my brain supplied the MGS "!" sound effect
Right at 6:27 when Michael said "Let's get into the main building now", the lights on the side of the building turn on.
Lol good point. Probably a sign that the security guy just pulled up. Or they are just automated night lights that turned on because it got dark.
Day / Night sensor lights I think :)
I did happen to notice that but I think it was a coincidence given the amount of daylight left. Sure adds to the mystique though!
Insane video, was at the edge of my seat the whole time. Hope you aren't offended that the guard was a hard ass, he was just doing his job. He doesn't know whether you're a homeless person, terrorist, looter, explorer, or vandal. Coupled with a language barrier, I'm sure the policy is to hold you while they look through your footage and make sure the area is safe. Keep up the excellent work.
I'm to old to run from the guards. I just chill with them and talking some photography and they just let me go cuz they can't stand listening to my bs..
For real, security doesnt care about nerds taking videos and pictures, its not worth their time, they'll just ask you to leave or escort you off property, they only care about looters
Speaking as security if I am forced to I will call the cops, but I really really don't want to.
@@Kdog4660 what type of location do you work at? Is it completely inoperable?
@@DeepFriedBeans23819 right now a neighborhood, but done construction sites, and stuff before, I typically always told any wonder and not seeming to do damage take a walk
Bauqh cool story.
Wait, the power is on... I always pass if the power is still on.
Backyard Exploration did an abandoned hotel with the power on in various parts of the complex. Was really creepy and entertaining.
Real talk: Hiding in the woods would make me have to take a dump lol. I'm a nervous dumper apparently.
Watching them hide in the woods made me have to take a dump.
Excellent video! Glad you guys made it out safe. Can’t wait for more videos!
Ive been caught 37 times, never ran, ive been caught in places that arent a big deal and places that i couldve faced serious jail time. Every time i just explained and they let me go, on several occaisions they told me to delete my footage, but that was it, he probably told you to get in the car so that he could escort you off himself, its protocol for a lot of security. But 100% of the time no matter where you are just as long as that the place isnt actually being used for something theyll let you go, because security isnt there to bust and jail geeks taking pictures, they're there to stop looters. If yoy just explain yourself and never do it again at that facility they will let you go scott free.
In the video he said he tried to translate to the guy telling him he would leave and never be seen again and the security started shaking his head no.
@@dirtyd9219 the french translation to the guy might have made it seem like he was just gonna walk away, but for a lot of security its protocol to escort people off property to make sure they leave, you can't just take their word for it, they have to actively see them leave.
Bryan Southard they technically were break and entering and trespassing, he very well could have been taking him to the cop shop and also he said he called the cops. I’ve ran every time and didn’t get caught or had to deal with “hanging out with security” or whatever.
Bryan Southard I've worked security for 15 years and yeah that's standard procedure. Was told when started its never worth trying to get someone done for trespassing (unless they've actually damaged something to break in) as it never holds up in court as the easy defense is "i got lost"
alcoholic_angel What kind of place exactly did you work at, an empty field? It's pretty hard to claim you got lost inside of a fenced in with every door locked power plant.
Lights and power on. Buzzing high voltage transformers behind locked doors. Disused maybe but certainly not abandoned. The whole time is was thinking GET OUT NOW. Don't get me wrong I love your channel and videos it is just that this one felt less urban explore and way more break and enter. I'd rather have to wait a little longer for a new video than see you push it and get into trouble going into a clearly dodgy location. Keep safe and come back home where the abandoned is plentiful and unguarded.
Not to defend them but they have a 45-minute long video of an abandoned power plant where the power and mains was still on. Considering that they had found evidence it was "safe" to enter, I could understand why they had ignored their instincts on this one.
Actually, this is common if you want to explore power plants, since when they shut down they will go through a decommissioning phase. During this time the power will most of the time still be on while the plant is being taken apart for usable parts, after which the power is shut off and the place is demolished. All power plants I've been to had the power on, except for the ones that we're ready for demolishing but those are just empty shells. This goes for a lot of other industrial locations too, so in a way most of these aren't truly abandoned, just shut down and being taken apart.
@@Redrally That 45 minute nuclear plant video, the plant had temporary power still on. They do temporary power for decommissioning and demo.
There was an abandoned amusement park near me and it was well known that while power was shut off on each building, the power was on to all the transformers as well as on top of the power poles.
I mean there was no sign of degradation or tags, vandalism. It's clearly guarded
omg as i watched this in suspense, i am sitting on the edge and as soon as the door opened i actually hollered "RUN"!!! my husband came in and asked me what was wrong, yeah i get that much into it!!
Cherry Berry48 Me too!
Some of these exploration youtubers are far better than watching t.v., i gave up t.v. years before YT came about.
Bbisje dude you’re so cool
YES! Love getting notifications that y’all posted again!
'Decommissioned'? With all those lights blazing?
Decommissioned, not abandoned.
The decommissioning process takes up to 30 years. Just because it doesn't produce electricity anymore doesn't mean the building is not occupied.
It was decommissioned, but just not quite de-illuminated yet. There's a lag sometimes.
Decommissioned doesn't necessarily mean abandoned, just not in active use.
Those claps sounded like shotgun blasts. No wonder you got caught 😂. Nice video though 10/10.
omg you are back!! i am jonesin!! lol omg i had to pause this and collect myself, and by the caption, there is excitement ahead!!
This was a great video; the security guard chase made this one of the best video's you guys published so far...keep them coming :)
Yeah... I don't know what legal protections they offer for foreigners. Good thing you ran.
Them setting the alarms off several minutes after the incident, seems a bit odd to me, unless they considered you a national security threat.
Considering that this plant is active 3 months a year and your foreigners with recording equipment you might end up being shipped home.
I like the clap noise
Bill Williams You’re an idiot.
@@rickymac54321 truth hurts
Potatoes Have 48 Chromosomes Truth? You’re so full of shit. Hahahaha.
Yoooo I’m glad you had the same feeling as you did! I was also super sketched out when I visited the place. We made it to the cooling towers but were unsure of any security measures so we bailed. Sick to see what was inside but also nice to see that listening to my gut was the way to go. Glad you made it out!
Woah gotta give your guys credit for it. You kept calm and handled it. Keep the amazing videos coming!
You should call this video The great Escape!! I'm glad you guys made it out. Another fine video!! Good Job Guys!!!
This is a late comment, but to anyone watching I beg you: please, please, please do NOT mess around with police in foreign countries. If you're an American you can be in for a rude awakening if you go to France or Italy or many other countries. They don't play by the same rules that they do here in the States.
Yes, be very careful, foreign police will NOT shoot you on sight!
Haha amazing video guys! Been waiting for this since you guys told me about it😂 Good quilty as always!
first time ive seen u guys make a run and nearly get caught ! u did well for taking a breather for a while just before dark and then moving on , glad u made it out safe :)
Danggg this video was fun
You guys are by far the best urbex crew ! Love your videos!
Seemed to be a very active place to be decommissioned. The security guy was probably bored and wanted some action and thought he'd pick on Mike a bit. Very exciting footage and it is unfortunate that you couldn't explore the place as it looked very interesting.
Love the almost fisheye lens you were using while inside! I've always thought they images they capture are really cool! You almost need it when you have such a big place with so much information to capture in the image.
This was worth watching just for the echo sound effects.💕
Great Episode, had me on the edge of my seat the whole time!
Now that's what I call tension. (no pun here) You might consider these missed explorations as unsuccessful but they make some of your best videos in my opinion
Great video. Thanks for posting this. Have a nice day.
Glad y'all made it out ok! Good try keep up the great video's! Thanks for what y'all do!
So guys, the blazing lights and machinery noises didn't clue you in? Love your vids.
During the running footage, I thought the guy behind Michael was the security guard catching up. I was expecting to see a fight before realizing it was Bryan.
Nice work fellas! Takes me right back to when I was a kid having fun exploring places. My friends and I had more than one 'great escape' from law enforcement types. One escape involved us climbing a tree, only to have the police park their car right under us. We sat for an hour, just listening to them hunt for us. Never once did they look straight up.. had they, and they would had us. Literally 15 feet away. Good times.
This was so exciting! Just as much fun to watch as if you had been able to explore it properly. "Bye bye!" 😄😄
Keep this content coming i like it glad u guys made it out safe support from Los Angeles
Really like your vlogs and I'm glad that you've escaped. that was close
5:15 "You can hear some bug clicking"... for a moment I thought it was geiger counter...
Same lol
thanks for being one the only legitimate exploring channels also I really want to take an acoustic guitar there
Oh, man! The anxiety watching after y'all got caught. I'm glad it didn't get worse. 😱
Love the sense of adventure, a small part of me is critical of youre collective sneaking skillz though. I love the content, and root for you 100% of the time. Stay Frosty fellas. :)
Awesome, loved it.
this was so thrilling!. Oh yeah and thanks for not being so dramatic, i mean.. not like others would be if they were live on this platform lol. Still very entertaining..
That was so much fun and thrill watching the video!
With all the lights on, i had a bad feeling from the beginning too. It's 50-50 with places like this but glad you made it out there without being caught.
Those cooling towers are amazing echo chambers!
But my heart was pounding when you opened the door to security guy!
This was a ride adventure I enjoyed watching you guys.
Better than TV
That was a creepy place. I would never gone into that cooling tower. I have a phobia for places like that. And inside that main building? Not ever ever.
Honestly this feels like what could be an intro to a Blair witch like movie where you guys get lost in the woods with nothing but your camera equipment
Lol! Cutting it a little too close guys, great vid.
Press F to pay respect to the rabbit.
Well that was exciting there! Glad you guys made it safely back to the car. Being in a foreign country, you just don't know what may happen.
Close call! Glad you got some of the pursuit on camera. :-)
I'm glad he recorded the running away part
You guy's can move! Exciting. Glad you made it.
I know this is an older video but man this was awesomely entertaining
I like these types of videos when u gotta run and escape. Thrill seeker here lol
This is Vilvoorde Power Station in Belgium, began operating in 2001 and closed between 2014 and 2017.
Great Video! Amazing site!
Okay, I think it would be hilarious if at the end, the guard snuck up on the guys and and jumped out yelling "boo". I mean, guards have the potential to have a lot of fun on those late night shifts.
I enjoy your work thank you
gr8 vid as always 💪🏼
that's dramatic, i've been ever in this position while some villagers chasing me around the factory at midnight, they think we are a thief XD
I literally sit on the edge of my seat on every video to watch
Awesome guys.
Woah, great video :D
Solid attempt, I'm wondering how old your intel was? Great vids, keep on keeping on boys!
Maybe you got bad information?.
The info was good, he obviously got in. Once you're inside, you could very well be sharing the building with security patrols thatre just on the other side of the property the entire time.
Imagine the type of echo a Badlandschugs burp would be inside that power plant
They'd send in the military to look for where the bomb blast was
Btw, if you freeze it at 7:01, you might see the surveillance camera on the upper right.
We can't tell the seasons anymore and must prepare for all types of weather every day. It fluctuates terribly over here in the USA. Haven't taken the ac units out yet.
Better than some movies in terms of how tense this was
Great vid once again guys.
Slog pp footage gone wrong?
Inside the cooling tower reminded me of a cathedral !! Needed organ in the background!
that was so intense folks !!!
If that first weird structure you went into isn't the location where the interrogation scenes in Terry Gilliam's film Brazil was shot, I'd be amazed. I know that scene was filmed on location, and that space is totally identical to it. And the echoes are exactly the same too.
This looks like so much fun omg
The rabbit, there's your sign. Lol time to hip hop out of the electric garden. I love the alarm. Don't fumble the camera.
You guys are sick. But dam good video inside of the cooling tower.
Just love it.
The idea to run was epic!! What men!!!! Look at those Gigantic Steel balls✊
It is indeed a nice power plant, but it's possibility that this one is going to be active again for the expected shortage of electricity in Belgium duruing winter ,due to works on a lot of our nuclear power plants. And there are indeed IR camera's there.
Amazing vid
You have balls of steel great show
Awesome!
Getting pinched ..... it happens. 👍vid.
Mike, Brian.... we like your style.
awesome video, you guys are carzy asf
Decommissioned.....not abandoned. Got a set of 🥜, but can’t say for the thrill I wouldn’t have done it. Badass
So unlucky that the security guy came through the door right in front of him!
Good James Bond type evading.
Great video guys
How did you watch it that fast? Video was uploaded couple of minutes ago and it's 12mins long. LOL
@@Johnny-WaIker not sure it was on my feed with notification and I watched it
Just think - Three Mile Island near Harrisburg PA just closed. Maybe in 30 years your kids can explore it!
Coolant water leaked into the foundations of the containment building of unit 2, I don't think the site will ever be open to the public.
