It should have never been allowed to get this level of ridiculousness to begin with.
Newsome should not have allowed
The Demonrats intentionally grew "The homeless problem" cause they were making billions off of it.
This should have been done many years ago before it grew this large. It just became unmanageable. There is so much money in that city and some of it should have been used to build shelters, medical clinic and drug treatments . Also education and job placements for the able individuals.
I know. Aren't the homeless just ridiculous.😢
So where do you put the homeless?
What happened to the 27 billion for homelessness?
In Gavin's pockets
It went to nonprofit industrial complex which makes money off of the problem continuing.
Pocketed by Gavin’s pals, and with his blessing.
Went into private overseas accounts...
High priced executives
It’s an embarrassment that this was allowed to grow to this size. Nothing but a despicable lack of leadership and policy.
Remember it’s obvious the California business owner elites elected newsome, same ones who pay less than 10% annual profit to people that work them !!!

Italy is spotless, despite tourism. How? They allow bums, but bums are required to clean "their" neighborhood of litter, or go to jail.
That sounds like the most sensible solution.
Give them some space, and contract them to keep it clean.
That's interesting. There should be some programs like that here in Cali!!
We people are tired of foundations advocating for the homeless. They haven’t any intention to fix the problems when they make money from the problem.,! Most(not all) homeless have substance abuse issues. Part of the reason they reject shelters is that they can't be under the influence, there. The problem has been allowed to get huge. The homeless have gotten used to living in that way and feel that they have a right to do it. It's not going to be easy to reverse. Worrying about personal dignity is pointless. There is no dignity in the way they are living.

How about lower property taxes so rentting a crappy studio apartment doesn't cost $2500 a month when realtors want you to make 3 times the rent. Yeah those low skill restaurant workers really gonna make $7500 a month to be able to have anything. This is so gross.
So true..also lower income taxes keep more of what u can make
Because the problem is not that property taxes are too high. California actually has quite low property taxes compared to other states-it's on the lower end of the 50 US states.
The PROBLEM is that there is a SERIOUS HOUSING SHORTAGE-It's the worst in the entire US at nearly 1 MILLION houses short.
Simple supply and demand. Supply is LOW, demand is HIGH.
And houses don't get built because NIMBY lobby groups fight to prevent new apartment complexes from being built in their neighborhood. According to the NIMBYs, it would "ruin the beautiful neighborhood", but in reality it's because the NIMBY-supporters' property values would go down. So now we have the worst homeless issue in the US caused by the worst housing shortage in the US, all whilst people who secured a house a long time ago have become millionaires. The power of NIMBYs to lobby this hard is just pure corruption.
People end up in the streets, people end up coping by taking sedative hard drugs that they get from criminals affiliated with gangs, which gives criminals more power etc. and now parts of major cities here look like third-world countries.
Why in the World if you're poor would you live in the most expensive place in America?
@@richardmorris7063 It's a catch 22 really. I live in an expensive city because the jobs pay well here even though the cost of living is high. There is public transportation which helps me avoid the cost of owning a vehicle. I could move to a nearby town with lower rents but there are no high paying jobs outside of the medical field. Now I could commute but that would require buying and maintaining a car and all the fuel associated with commuting would pretty much negate any savings in rent and eats up a lot more of my time for nothing.
There are other states to live in besides California. It’s the most expensive state. Making 100,000 a year is considered an average or below average salary. Homeless people can move to other low cost states.

I pray 1000x blessings for every human that is suffering from any pain, struggle, poverty, injustice, oppression, mental health/addiction challenges, trauma, fear, or distrust in the systems that failed them. Do not give up hope! We are with you. You matter. You are loved.
Housing doesn’t solve homelessness it only takes it out of plain sight.
So what's the solution then?
True. Honestly, no one knows what to do with these folks. There are no easy solutions.
Prevention is best I’d say. Housing is too expensive for everyone, I like to see would be highly controversial and probably illegal and that is to set limit how many homes a family can own (married couple) I’d like one and prohibit corporations from buying any especially other countries.
Too much handholding honestly you ever been to a shelter homeless are not even required to clean up after them selfs just catering to them isn’t going to help them one bit. They are not pushed to get better from anything let alone drugs. We have mental health do to drug use not the other way around, be harder on drugs cartels/ dealers, bring back justice for crimes committed like theft.
"Affordable" Housing does solve homelessness. Because then they would have a house and not be homeless. It's pretty cut and chase, unless you drink lead for a hobby. The bigger issue is investors buying up all the housing and mAkE LiNe Go uP! We need a limit on what 1 person or company can own.
Housing first has been proven not to work in fact more dies alone in their apartments no one to help them with narcan
I feel for the city workers!! They need to get those people to help move out their things!
Are they trying to make us feel bad for things rhat dont pay taxes yet use up all of the tax resources??
"Our homeless neighbors"???!
MY neighbors have homes
Not for long.
You didn’t need the governors order to do the job. Absolutely ridiculous
My problem with encampments is when they have trash everywhere and trash like upholstered furniture outside, electric appliances sitting around.
There are shelters! Homeless people are choosing to stay on the street and not accepting help. That’s their problem not our problem.
If I were homeless I wouldn’t want to stay in a shelter either, I can’t really blame them there.
You didn't watch the whole video. The lady just said there isn't enough shelters or affordable housing in California to keep them at. Homeless people aren't going anywhere until that's fixed.
The shelters do not have the space. And they are never decent shelter. And no room for RVs. And limited hours. And they want you to follow their programs to get people back to work, regardless of the person's ability to do so, and so I can't use the shelters.... I don't qualify.
@@williamsrdanespecially the program of getting off drugs. Is that a problem?
I am speaking as someone with a homeless family member, who refuses to go into shelters as "there are too many rules", refuses to quit the METH that is rampant in the streets, refuses to go back to his job which he was paid 100k+ a year, refuses to clean up their act so they can get off the streets. I do have empathy for those who are homeless due to hard circumstances but it is way more complicated than just a affordable housing issue.
Many homeless being interviewed on camera here in Portland Oregon say the same … we refuse to go into shelters because there are too many RULES. Those rules include…no drugs; no stealing; no breaking into other units; dump your trash in the shelter provided dumpsters; use the shelter provided bathrooms and showers; attend and agree to the counselor meetings and job training that’s provided, etc.
@kathyoliva6966 It's sad that some people not all but rather live homeless than change their life. I knew a man like that. Chose streets instead of help from brother
Why is there no mention of drug addiction as the root of being homeless? The homeless issue is a drug issue!
Admitting that would mean the politicians are part of the problem in the liberal trifecta that is California.
No, it’s the other way around. The drug issue is a result of the homeless issue!
THANK YOU!! They conveniently omit that but carefully call them neighbors!
@@essenceofauset7272 That's demonstrably incorrect.
@@essenceofauset7272 Not necessarily. Lack of affordable housing and consideration for the disabled, no mental health services, low wages are also strong contributers
Vote REPUBLICAN!.!.
TOTAL POLITICAL PROPAGANDA. THE HOMELESS DO NOT WANT TO GO INTO YOUR WOKE SHELTERS.
so for decades the homeless have demonstrated that THEY are not capable of doing what's best for themselves.
How long has the executive director FOR homelessness been collecting funds? For what?
throughout history, have we not had ANY ideas how to fix this?
just asking...
@@oldrrocrThat's a lie.
✊🏾
Something needs to be done to deter homeless from other areas coming to California because “anything goes” here. Bring back project room key to home key for the elderly and those with chronic illnesses and mandatory mental health treatment for those who are too mentally ill to care for themselves or at risk of harming themselves or others.
I cannot stand that lady. It is a bit of truth about what she's saying, but many of those homeless choose drugs over a clean and safe place to live.
That woman talking about making them so uncomfortable they accept the help. There is no real help without excessive money. They’re never has been a solution for this issue. Because people keep making money because the issue exist.
Never voting for Newsom for President no matter what he does. He already ruined Kali, not interested.
you have to force most these people into programs
Absolutely. It's cruel not to. People with illnesses or addictions can't take care of themselves. Leaving them in the streets isn't humane. If you had a sick kid, you wouldn't let them refuse to go to the doctor, that would be neglect.
We have a new court to do just that!
Absolutely!
You can't force people to get off drugs. Even people who are trying their hardest can't do it. You know what other countries do? They don't play.
@@stevelouie5928 I mean carrot or stick, force into shelter, or drug programs, or keep it moving or jail.
Many factors play a role in this situation we call homelessness:
(Issue)
1. Mental illness
2. Addiction to drugs
3. High cost of living in California
4. People are lazy and do not want to work
(Solution)
1. Build plenty of mental health care facilities, help people get the appropriate care that is needed for them.
2. Addiction can only be cured if the affected person is willing to accept the help. Give them two options: go to rehab or get sent to the forest or wilderness or to The tundra in Alaska.
3. California’s economy needs to balance even with employment wages.
4. Get a job and keep it, do not quit cause you are lazy and do not want to work. Or else get deported to the Tundra in Alaska!
Alaska isn't going to like your plan.
He is not doing anything. If not for the supreme court decision he would not be attempting anything.
Before the supreme court opinion, cities were banned by the lower courts from clearing encampments, claiming it was unconstitutional. The Supreme Court gave cities and states more power to clear encampments.
@velmamendes2949 if Newsom did it without court approval, believe me he will get so much criticism from thr do nothing Republicans anyway. So Damn if I do and Damn if I don't.
😂 tell you don't know how court circuits work.
He wants to be president…probably going to be Kamala’s VP
Vote him in again ....... Please? He's so cunning and good looking. He must care about your state so passionately
Do people really think that Governor cares what they think?
Did the representative listen to herself before she spoke? Or does she just not care?
I think we all know the answer to those questions, they’re evident.
Thank goodness, try something to clean this mess up.
The "coalition on homelessness" leader looks exactly like what you would expect.
They are the people working for the NGO's on behalf of the homeless, while making low 6-figure salaries paid for by taxpayers. 'That' is what they are worried about - losing their jobs.
Feels like a pre-election show
It's not about the elections.
It shouldn't have gotten to this point in the first place. They should have stopped this years ago when it started.
The workers doing this cleanup deserve recognition. If there was a way to donate to them I would do it in a heartbeat.
Anyone who still thinks the issue is just "poor people down on their luck" instead of an out of control mental health and drug crisis is detached from reality. I live in dtown San Jose and it's like an open air insane asylum and drug use site. People are here to take advantage of free drugs and ability to illegally camp everywhere. I'm tired of people from wealthy areas not impacted by the horrendous policy failures of this state continuing to vote for bad policy that had led to the highest homeless rates in the nation, by far. Just listen to this news report "horrible smells, needles, feces." Imagine being forced to live next to that while paying $3,000 mnth for rent.
It’s disgusting most of these homeless folks not all but most are on drugs they urinate on the sidewalks on the side of buildings feces on the sidewalks crying people high on drugs threatening other people when they walk by setting up camp in front of businesses and homes it’s all over California, we have plenty of land in California if homeless is a problem then these people need to go into a homeless organized camp but with rules and regulations like the rest of us know drug use etc. build them bathrooms showers and give them an opportunity to get warm and stay cool in the summer and then they can get out and start looking for jobs. Try walking down some of the streets in San Francisco it’s disgusting and it’s terrifying for most folks, you start walking people start yelling at you screaming at you jumping up and down some people half naked screaming hollering high on drugs it’s ridiculous.
While all people should must be treated with dignity and respect, homelessness affects everyone in the community. Young kids who live near the tenderloin in San Francisco should be able to walk the streets to school without having to encounter street after street lined with tents.
Filth is everywhere. And with filth comes rats, feces, urine, and garbage. It took the courts forever to resolve this problem so that cities like San Francisco and Oakland can do something about the problem.
Have you been to south of Market lately? Empty buildings, people laying on the streets everywhere, many of them with scary mental issues. I've witnessed it personally. Whilel I am not a fan of Gavin Newsom, his order is way overdue.
There's no expiration date.
Good for the Governor..
Make it uncomfortable so the citizens give in. Thats how our leaders think of us. They won't help us, just punish us.
These are drug addicts who refused rehab.
Mostly, no.
I had a neighbor that honestly thought she didn't have to pay her mortgage or her taxes because she was irresponsible with their money she got away with not doing this for over 20 years and it finally caught up to her one day where they evicted her and she was playing the victim but I didn't feel sorry for her because she had a chance to maintain and be responsible with her finances
Newsom just floats in the breeze. He pushes compassion if that’s the way the wind blows, and then an iron hand when it suits him more to have one. Encampments are awful places, and many people who inhabit them are in fact dangerous and unstable people - but they aren’t going to be accepting any of the “help” that is offered in lieu of their horrible environments on the streets. The reasons are simple: the help offered is “too little too late” and moving to shelters and housing means these people have to follow the same rules everyone else does, which is not something they are prepared to do. I’ve worked with the homeless population for over ten years. These statements aren’t meant to cold or callous, just reflections of the realities around homelessness and how it fits into society as a whole.
HOMELESS people NEED DISCIPLINE, not pity money. Those who have it will get help, for sure, it shows. Those who don't need to be retrained or terminated. Homeless people who dont help keep the streets clean/safe are a WASTE of OUR resources. They are disrespectful and are a bad example to our children. There are people out there with real problems needing real solutions. These parasites dont need help; plus, they get paid by Newsom. Getting paid to be homeless is so unfair for our future children. Help our community or Xp... pretty simple.
Homeless neighbors is an INSANE phrase
It ironic because when SF mayor tried to sweep the homeless. Gavin told them its inhumane and blocks the attempt.
The hypocrite finally showed his true colors.
Could you be a little more Vague ?
😂😂😂
California's WORST Governor ever.
Wheres the $$$$ Gavin lost for housing. No Accountability. Get rid of Screwsome immediately he has ruined CA
Vote him out!!!
Friedenbach is a clown. Her answer is "do nothing".
