To everyone super excited about the score: I hear you! I’ve invested a few hundred into making sure I have the best modern virtual instruments and have been hard at work carefully adjusting the mixes and tweaking the instruments to sound as close to their original counterparts as possible. My goal is to make it as close to a 1:1 recreation as I can. To sound like the originals but more realistic, more fresh and a lot higher quality. This will unfortunately take a bit as I don’t want to put something lackluster out. You’ll probably hear it by the end of summer.

I'd go into a bit more detail here but I don't wanna jam up the comments. And not to besmirch your already-excellent work, as I know you'll be putting a lot of effort into it!

Thanks for an insightful documentary. For me, the key to why the game is so eerie and so unique is that you aren’t just inside the Titanic, you’re inside The Rubaiyat of Omar Khayyam. Once you start looking closely at the text and comparing it with events in the game…
“Up from Earth’s centre through the seventh gate I climbed, and on the throne of Saturn sate” - is there a point where you climb from the lowest point of the ship, past seven decks, up to the highest? Yup.
“The moving finger writes, and having writ moves on” - is there an important clue traced by someone’s finger? There is.
“There was a door to which I found no key” - did somebody say Second Class Library? And so on…

I've been obsessed with this game since I was 12! I loved how spooky the ship felt. I couldn't wait to play the game at night in our computer room. I think what I loved most about it was how eerie everything felt. With the rest of the ship already gone to bed, you had the run of the place to yourself, with only some crew and a few other seedy characters roaming the decks with you. And the ominous music. I think that's also why in real life I very much enjoyed roaming the cruise ship decks late at night on vacation lol. This game is a timeless classic.

Some of the puzzles were a major challenge to get right too, it's not easy to acquire all the items and get off the ship with them. I'll never forget the creep factor it gave me late at night either 😅

Wonderful job with this documentary! This game touched something deep in a lot of people, and you're clearly one of them! Even as young 10 year-old playing this for the first time, there was something incredibly haunting about the idea of living a wasted life, forever locked in regret, all traced back to simply not acting on one fateful night 30 years in the past. I think that's a universal fear - of missing an opportunity, maybe even without knowing it, that forever puts you on the wrong course. That concept, plus the uncanny valley animations, the intentionally haunting music, the empty ship, the ticking clock, and the knowledge that 1,500 people died in the real-life disaster - it all combines into a bizarre mix of creepy horror, bittersweet nostalgia, and the remote but real possibility of altering the past and changing course. I'll never forget this game, or the feelings it aroused. Really incredible.

I'm assuming this is because he got the note from Georgia, a former lover (possible asset/source from a previous mission?) the same night and decided to meet her instead of Penny. Or he just stayed in his cabin. But I love the idea that his horny secret agent screwed up the entire mission because he never met his contact and instead thought he would first go for a quick hookup with an old fling, and then disaster hits titanic and then it's too late. Thanks so much for making this. I'm in my 20s now. But when I was younger, say about 4 or 5 years old - my Dad owned a Windows 98 computer, and that was my first experience with computer games. Titanic Adventure Out of Time defined my young life in that way. It got me interested and invested in computers as a whole. As I grew up, I knew that my life would need to revolve around computers - and thus I went to college for computer science - landed myself a job as a software engineer quickly out of college and the rest is history - but this game played an instrumental role in my upbringing and I'll always remember that. Thanks so much for making this. You've filled my heart with sweet nostalgia.
Another benefit of this game of course is that it incited a love for history within me. Unfortunately, I can only dream of going back in time and preventing the World Wars but this game makes it a reality!

I still have the original CD ROM, and an old PC connected to a 27 inch CRT TV, and man it sure takes me back to 1996, freshly out of high school. How I miss those times, I certainly was not only mesmerized by the technology but the somber music kept me hooked. Until this day I still revisited every so often, Btw the Steam version is very stable on W10 and have not encountered any issues. If out of curiosity and you are not a gamer, please put this as an item in your bucket list. Highly recommended.

VR game devs should take note. This “outdated” style of game could work really well, IMO, in VR. It bypasses many of the limitations of VR, just as it did my Apple Performa.

Wow! I so appreciate this documentary about this game. I remember when I bought it that I hadn’t even heard of it before, but based on the description on the back of the box and my love of history I thought it sounded like it could be a fun game. And it was! My sister, mom, dad, several friends, and I all became obsessed with playing it and watching each other play making different decisions. By the time the movie Titanic came out we had been pretty immersed in Titanic from this game that we definitely wanted to see the film ... which we’d go on to watch numerous times in theaters taking new friends and family who hadn’t yet seen it to watch it for the first time and then afterwards mentioning that there’s a PC game where you can walk around on the ship! It reminded me a lot of the video game Journeyman Project 2, which had come with my family’s newest PC along with lots of other software like Encarta and other things to show up the CD-ROM. My sister and I were actually just talking about this game a few days ago with my 17 year old niece. She had been asking us about PC games besides Civilization (1, 2, 3, etc), The Sims (1, 2, etc), SimCity (1, 2000, 3000, 4, etc), etc that we liked to play. She’s heard us talk a lot about various console video games, but we only mention PC games connected to ones that are still around and she’s familiar with playing. I assured her we played plenty of other games and she was like: “like what?” And I named adventure games as a genre we liked and she wanted an example. My sister immediately chimed in with this game, although off hand we didn’t immediately remember it’s actual title. It was just “THAT Titanic game!” This documentary gave me a lot of great information about how this game came to be and how they achieved this game. It’s such a wonderful game and this documentary definitely lets the audience realize that. I’m definitely going to share this documentary with my niece so she can see and hear the game. My sister will enjoy learning more about how the game was made as well! And definitely will share with all my friends that played it back in the day at my parents’ house. We spent whole weekends just playing this game and getting lost in the ship and trying to solve the adventure. Thank you for this documentary. And thank you to all those who are recreating the soundtrack! That’s awesome! I also wasn’t aware it could be purchased today! Amazing! And those other games they mentioned possibly making. OMG! I would’ve sooooo bought those knowing it was made by the folks who made this game! They did such a great job with this game that I would’ve trusted them to make other great history related adventure games. Something that was definitely lacking. Most were either sci-fi, modern day, or period pieces without any actual connection to actual history. I think that’s why we also enjoyed The Journeyman Project 2 was because, despite the sci-fi elements, there was some historical parts to it as well. Though I do remember we eventually got bored with it, whereas we didn’t get bored with this game. The only reason we eventually stopped playing it was because we didn’t have our own PCs yet so we could only play when visiting at our parents house. I mean I had a laptop, but the game ran very slowly on it and I remember my parents asking me to borrow the game again, to which they still have it in the case with all the other floppy disks and CD-ROMs of PC games we owned (and they still have the PC, monitor, scanner, printer, webcam, etc, though I don’t think it’s been powered on in ages now). Thank you for the documentary! Well done! I thoroughly enjoyed it!

Im from Knoxville myself and we took a tour of the studio back in the 90s. Was very saddened to hear of the closing, after the tour me and my friends from the neighborhood decided to try and make a game using hypercard. It was a hybrid of Myst and Titanic/Dust. It was actually decent for 12 year olds, but probably has been burned in a land fill by now lol. We also trolled people on the Cyberflix forums and would makes posts saying "CAN HELP IF UR STUCK, WILL REPLY IN 5 MINS" just to see the sheer number of replies we would get. We did this all on the local public library computer.

Thank you for this fantastic documentary! I would argue that this is one of the most influential games of the modern video game era. It took to the next level some of the things that made Myst so popular. However, its impact on RPG and story-based games is undeniable. It was deeply story-driven, decision-based and had amazing attention to detail. I was so surprised by this game (after buying an old copy from eBay). It was ahead of its time.

WOW! What a fantastic presentation and documentary of a great game! Thanks!
Boy do I remember this game when it first came out. I had a temporary subscription to PC Gamer magazine and they mentioned the future release of a game that was set aboard Titanic. I was about 19 or 20 at the time but had been interested in Titanic since I was 7 or 8 (catching the bug from an episode of 'Voyagers' that took place on the ship). When the demo for the game came out I was all over it. I played it over and over again, having fun in developing the pictures that P.P. was after.
When it finally released I had to drive 40 minutes to the mall (we lived in the sticks) and the lady at the desk wasn't sure they had it. She also had to warn me that it required 8 megs of RAM (8 MEGS!! lol) When I loaded it up, I was in heaven! What a great experience. It's a memory I will never forget.
P.S. I also remember this game came with Free DLC. They were tour packages where characters from the game would discuss aspects and locations from the ship as history lessons. I can't recall if I got them all cuz they would take HOURS to download via dial up. lol. Gawd, do I feel old now.....

I have a long, long history with this game. My family somehow got hold of a demo version on a CD with two other games (Timelapse and NCAA Basketball). Found the full game in 2005, got frustrated with it and didn't pick it up again for another 3 years. Found an internet guide to the game, came back and beat the game w/ best ending.
