  • @vivianhodges900
    @vivianhodges900 2 роки тому +11

    I've watched climbing comps regularly since 2014 and looking back at old footage I'm always blown away by how much harder boulders used to be. Instead of being a demonstration of who has the most power, raw strength, and best technique, now comps are about who can do the jump the fastest. Creating separation is always the excuse for the change in style, but it seems like comps of the past few years aren't separated on number of tops and bonuses/zones, but who can top all of the problems in the fewest attempts. These parkour/"coordination dyno" moves do nothing to separate when all of the climbers already know all the tricks.
    Bouldering should be about pulling hard on bad holds and the winner should be the one who can do that the best across all styles. If we go too much further down the road with these "comp-style" problems, I don't know how much longer we can call this bouldering...

    • @blyg9992
      @blyg9992 2 роки тому +3

      I agree with the sentiment to some extent, but I think in recent comps setters have backed off on the full parkour-style climbs.

  • @molomono9481
    @molomono9481 4 роки тому +15

    I know im in the minority but imo these boulders are way more interesting than the constant coordination dynos being for world cups these days.

    • @blondlezar8995
      @blondlezar8995 2 роки тому

      Climbing in bouldering gyms can be very entertaining and mind stimulating, you can work on a problem with friends, trying different solutions depending on your size, strength, flexibility with all the cheering that bouldering allows, since you stay close to the ground, and it's also easier to accept failing for the same reasons. You definitely should try it !

      I am 190cm tall. While I can climb some boulders that others struggle with easier, or sometimes even skip a hold, there are other boulders that I can't even start - precisely because I am that tall (and weak, lol).
      I mean, sure if you are 150cm tall, then yes, you will probably struggle a bit more more. But then again, there is a girl in my local gym, who is definitely not taller than 160cm, and she represents the country, absolute beast. I'm just watching her wishing I could climb half as good as she does...

      +magetaaaaaa Rock climbing has been a competitive sport since near the end of the 1800s. The first bouldering competition (this video is of a bouldering competition) with cash prizes was in 1892. The end of World War II lead to the development of inexpensive army surplus pitons, carabiners, and newly invented nylon rope, helping the sport being to really take off in the 1940s and 1950s. But it wasn't until 1991 that the first World Championships were organized in Germany, and these still take place every 2 years, but didn't include bouldering until 1998. The current governing body, the IFSC (International Federation of Sport Climbing) wasn't founded until 2007. The IOC (International Olympic Committee) just recognized the IFSC in 2010, putting sport climbing as a possible new event for the 2020 Olympic games. In 2014, sport climbing appeared as a demonstration sport at the Youth Olympic Games in Nanjing, China.

    • @ArneKristianNBakklund
      @ArneKristianNBakklund 10 років тому

      you might gett skinny if you do not train normal strength at the side ^^
      Do a healthy mix and it will be fine

      To be this sstandard, physics says you have to be, but it takes at least 4 days a week training different aspects, propper rest days, a training team behind you and a diet that would make a dog cry...so no you won't don't worry

      even if you wanted it it's hard to get such low bodyfat

    • @iedison3839
      @iedison3839 9 років тому +4

      If by skinny you mean super strong, then maybe. If you are a super swol lifter, then bouldering isn't going to be easy, were talking about a whole different kind of strength: strength-to-weight. Mobility is key in bouldering (and climbing of all kinds). Whether it's flexibility, dynamics, contorting, etc. you need to be very strong, but not in a body builder sense.
