Im so glad that you joined this channel and brought this topic to the table. What are your thoughts on brands who take back empties and offer a reward system to encourage consumers to participate?
Very educative!! But also if people can stop buying products all the time and accumulating them like crazy it would be the best. Over consumption is a real problem like we sometimes see on videos the girls have a whole library furniture packed with products. Just ridiculous and makes me puke.
I truly ENJOYED watching this video. Allison was an instructor of mine in college and her passion for packaging, sustainability and to educate others on the subject transcends on and off-screen. I've been watching your videos for years, and to see a familiar face got me soooo excited. Can't wait to see more :)
Me! I’m a super vigilant recycler and am always frustrated at how complicated and difficult it is to recycle things. Thank you for highlighting this topic! This is fascinating!
I asked about a year ago about refills for Naturim and I'm sure you get this question a lot. As of right now I'm reusing the bottles, but I would love to get an actual sustainable refill for my beloved body washes ❤ recycling in the US is way too complicated. I'm German living here and all the extra steps you have to do, to make sure a product can be recycled are ridiculous. There are better ways!
So interesting as always! I’ve followed Allison for a while now and while it is jarring to see all your efforts not always pay off, you see real ways to make a difference. Also think one of the main things that burdened the industry was The Ordinary’s initial approach to skincare, because they led you to believe you needed a bunch of single product ingredients in order to have a complete routine, when it is really more sustainable to have a single product that tackles several necessities.
Love @allisonturquoise this video was so fun! And please make refills for your body lotion. It’s so hard to get the remainder of the lotion out of the bottom so I have to cut the packaging apart.
Wow. What an amazing and educational video! I genuinely did not want it to end!! We definitely need so much more education and content as such as consumers.
Interesting stuff! I loved the deeper dive into packaging! As a side note, I buy pumps that fit that Loreal skin tint, which seems to me a huge waste that they could easily address for far less cost and waste then me.
Yay Allison!!!! 🎉 congratulations on the awesome collaboration. Nice to know more people will have a better understanding of beauty packaging from watching this video. 🎉
I so agree on the L'Oreal pipette! The no wiper issue is major, but the pipette itself is either non-functional or too easily broken because very quickly after I bought mine, it will no longer collect any of the product inside. So I essentially just have to use that built-up excess on the outside of it and wipe it on the back of my hand/brush/etc. which I feel like defeats the purpose of it entirely!
Some areas don't have recycle centers either. I moved from a state that we had recycle centers every few miles to a city where there are zero recycling centers. And I moved from a rural area to an urban one- you would think there would be more, not less.
Stratton had these beautiful compacts which you could refill with pressed powder(67mm diametre) or loose powder as it came with a sifter.... They are still available on etsy
curious on your thoughts on the companies like Pact Collective? Still puts the burden on the consumer to remember to keep and then drop off used products, but do they actually do a good job with the recycling?
I think Pact Collective is a good solution (for now) for an imperfect recycling system. Ideally our recycling system improves and captures a wider range of packages, but that requires ample investment and legislative support, which takes time. So for the time being, I think Pact Collective offers the best solution they can with the limited resources they have
Great content. About Naturium, can you please share the reason behind using taller big plastic packaging for serum, given that it is only 1 oz (30 ml) ?
I was waiting for someone to talk about the packaging of the La Roche Posay moisturisers and why it’s impossible to scoop out almost half of the bottle unless you cut it off 😢😢 love their products but this issue is soo frustrating
Free TerraCycle from Paula's Choice often influences my shopping choices. I dislike large containers for 1.7 oz products like DRMTLGY sunscreens. Congratulations on using light packaging.
❤❤❤❤ love Allison Turquoise. Thank you Allison n Susan, for this informative discussion! Would encourage having more of these discussions with the both of yok. ❤❤❤❤❤❤
I feel like we should only be using plastic on pretty much any product that isn’t liquid based. There’s these lip tint and cream blush disks at Sephora that come in a thick cardboard packaging. I’ve used it alot and it’s never ran out of durability. if for all powder or non-liquid materials could be turned into thick cardboard packaging instead of plastic, I think there would be less environmental impact.
It’s not all about environmental health - some of us care about the pandemic of human consumption of microplastics through all of this plastic packaging. So for the overall health of us humans, I’d rather go with glass, where the packaging won’t be leaching off into the products.
Not sure what point you’re trying to make, like a “gotcha” for my having used plastic because it’s everywhere? You just reinforced my point that we’re living in a time where we’re consuming plastics all over the place. Sorry you’re triggered by someone having a different viewpoint than you.
@@giacala oh nobody’s triggered. I just love your holier than thou attitude then tell me I’m triggered. Please, tell me how perfectly you live your life. You funny.
@@margaretanne1517 I’m honestly stunned by these responses. I didn’t realize my comment came off as “holier than thou” so for that I apologize. Sincerely. Sorry to have offended. Was trying to give a different viewpoint and maybe give the creators something else to consider since I never see what I said talked about in any videos/discussions on packaging. Any attitude that came across was probably because it feels like a topic that no one else cares about, and as someone with debilitating health issues, I actually have no choice but to care a bit extra about what I put in and near my body, which is quite isolating. So yea, I guess I’m on my own with this one.
@@giacalaif you had led with how your health has been affected, the message comes across softer. Thank you for taking the time to explain that. I’m sorry for making it sound like I was triggered myself. I guess I could have been more understanding myself. Hopefully your health improves. Delivery and word choice is key. Well done. Thank you.
Thank you for having me Susan!!💖 I had a blast discussing all things beauty packaging and sustainability with you!

you are so smart and knowledgable, what a great video!
What about aluminum packaging? I would love a long form video about it 🫶
Bring her back! This is so interesting. Please show us how to recycle properly, how to disassemble a packaging, what you can't recycle etc!

The L'Oreal skin tintttt, soooooooo trueeeee! The packaging is a pain in the butt
Omg thank you for this information

Is it me or is the skin on the face more yellow than it is on the hands? Or perhaps it’s the lighting?

I’m always curious about packaging and have seen so much BS that brands push and make people believe it’s truly sustainable.

What happened to Sharzad? I haven’t watched mixed makeup in a while and the last time I watched they did it together ❤
How do we recycle naturium bottles?
It's unsettling how their hands are exactly the same color but not the faces.
i thought we shouldn't rinse out the packaging before putting in the recycling bin because of water waste?

We should be looking at everything we use in our homes and make adjustments, skincare alone is not going make a difference.
