My Jon Boat VS. BIG Bass Boats || How'd We Do?! || Wednesday Night Bass Fishing Tournament!!

  • Matty Ice and I decided to start firing some shots at these Wednesday night tourneys on the Potomac river out of Aquia. We're going to try to fish them every week - should be a fun new series for the channel & you guys will see a great river fisherman at work!!(Matt McCluskey & me as his netboy/cameraman)
In my opinion, it doesn't matter whether you're fishing out of a 100k bass boat or a pool noodle, skill (and a little luck) go a long way. Yeah, those guys may get an extra hour of fishing due to speed, but we're gonna see how we can do against them this season. Glad they let us join in their Wednesday nighters.
My goal is to post a new video every Wednesday @ 6pm for you guys so you'll be watching our previous weeks tourney as we're out fishing the current one! Hope you guys enjoy and are pulling for us! Let me know in the comments below if I should keep these going for this season.

Nice work! I have a 12ft boat that I fish tournaments in. First tournament that I won I just had a trolling motor, no outboard...and I drew chip #1 for take off. They were laughing at me, but no one was laughing when I brought in the biggest bag!!!

As wife constantly reminded me for a year or so... "You caught more fish in the old 10' jon boat w/ 5hp wizard motor, then your new Ranger 372v and all your electronics." Of course, that all changed, as I did more and more tournaments over the years. Keep it up... you will learn the lakes as you go... and some day be able to get there faster. Good Job. And, of course. the big thing.... HAVE FUN !!

FYI on the southern side of the mouth (opposite where you were fishing) is one of the biggest grass beds and community holes on the river. And just a tip, when the fish is that close, flip it over and measure again.

Bill Lewis Rattle Trap, they make a much larger size, 1.5 oz I think, that will work for muskie. They make it in a floating and a sinking lure. I have 2 in the floating that I bought for speed trolling over shallow cabbage weed flats. I missed a big one one day when I was trolling. Was reeling in to move to another spot and had the motor in neutral when I spotted it.I'm sure I missed it because it had slowed down when I took the motor out of gear. Consider adding on to your muskie tackle box, the sinking version, for this summer when you want to burn a lure fast for muskie and don't want to throw a bucktail.
The more I watch of your video's the more I realize just how good of a bass fisherman you are, Matt, better than me.
When you say a 5 fish limit in the tourney, is that per person (10 total) or combined team limit?
You moved the Pink Floyd Dark Side of The Moon record from the wall behind you. lol
Yes, I like the tourney videos keep making them but I do wish you'd fish muskie more often, but that's just me.

What do you have going on there for your live well?
I'm just getting back into fishing after a 15 year hiatus, and looking to put something together on a budget. Definitely can't afford a big bass boat, so will likely go the Jon boat route like you have.
Also I'm in the same area as you, so if you ever want someone new to fish with give me a shout.
Oh btw, love your videos don't matter if it's a tourney vlog, or just messing around with buddies I always find them informative and enjoyable.

Sometimes you could throw those close fish in the livewell and they relax and get a little bigger. Sounds crazy but fish get tense when you hook them causing them to tighten up and lose a little length but I have seen them shrink as well

  • @jacobcumm8645
    @jacobcumm8645 6 років тому +1

Go ahead and through that fish in the live well if he is that close. Give him bout an hour and measure agian. They usually strech back out an 1/8 to 1/4 of an inch when they calm down.

When I was younger I fishing an Anglers Choice tournament, I drew the last boat number so, I just stayed on the deck w/the trolling motor down ...and edged towards the riprap bank to the left side. When my number was called ...there were still a dozen boats idling to get past the cove markers and I began casting. I had three fish in the boat for 16 lbs before the others were on the pad. I finished 3rd with 23 lbs and qualified for the Western Regional final on Clear Lake California ..where I also finished 3rd and won a fully rigged 19ft Bass Cat. #Booyah

Caught one fish but the best part my brake lines on my truck busted and there was no way I could drive home pulling my boat. Awesome night getting my boat home and truck towed. Google hole in the head fish disease. That's what that last bass was suffering from. You'll find it mostly talked about by aquarist, but it happens in the wild as well.
