[OLD] How to Jailbreak Your PS3 on Firmware 4.82 or Lower!

- Yes, we're finally here! If you have a PlayStation 3 on firmware 4.82 or lower, and it has a low enough minimum firmware version, you can now jailbreak your PS3 using only software! No hardware flashers, no need to take apart the console, not even a need to downgrade anymore! Thanks to the developers over at the PS3Xploit team, anyone with a compatible PS3 on 4.82 can spin up a local web server with a few supplied files and patch their console to get it ready for a CFW install.
The process here is to make sure your PS3 can handle a jailbreak, meaning the number you get from MinVerChk must be 3.56 or lower. ANYTHING HIGHER THAN 3.56 FROM THIS TEST WILL NOT WORK!!!!!!!!!!!
If your PS3 is compatible, it must be updated to 4.82 if it is on anything lower. Nothing higher, nothing lower, 4.82! After that, you must spin up a local web server to dump your NOR if you have a NOR PS3. If you're on a NAND PS3, this part can be skipped. After that, run the web server again and copy a file to your FAT32 formatted flash drive, this process will flash this file to your console and "patch" the current OFW 4.82 so it is ready for CFW. At that point you can simply take a 4.82 (or higher) CFW of your choice and install it directly through the XMB!
In order to do all of this you MUST have a compatible PS3. If you want to be safe, buy a Fat/Phat PS3. Every single one will be compatible with CFW. If you want to perform this on a Slim console, 20XX and 21XX models are all compatible. 25XX models that show 3.56 or lower on MinVerChk will work, anything showing a higher firmware will not. ANY PS3 MODEL HIGHER THAN 25XX WILL NOT WORK! This includes newer Slim models and all Super Slim models.

WhiteRed *** HEN, you’ll hafta run it each time you have to reboot. There is a different method. Look on that PS website where the Ferrox was gotten from for a tutorial.

Anyone having trouble read this.
1. Make sure you have an early slim console or any Phat console
2. When using the web browser press start enter webpage. If using RedTheTrainer page, please note you wont be able to enter the full address. Just enter redthetrainer.com/ps3 then navigate to NAND or NOR write.
3. When at the correct screen go to tools and homepage. Set current as homepage. Then back to tools and delete cache. Then exit the browser with Circle.
4. Reopen browser should be on correct page. Click flash Nor/Nand. Wait max 2 minutes for the success and system to beep and turn off. If this doesn't happen. It didn't work try again.
5. Finally make sure when doing all of this you have the flsh.hex in the root/main directory of your USB drive. Also on that USB have a folder PS3/Update with UPDAT.PUP inside the update folder.
If you don't have the PS3 Update and the flsh.hex it usually doesn't work.
Also if you do this and then wish to upgrade internal hard drive to a larger one later on. Update your console to OFW 4.81. And repeat this process again.
for nor i did it again and again it's succes but the system don't beep and turn off ! any solution please
Lynda Rachid if your system isn't turning off it's not working. Make sure your USB has the flash.hex file in the root of the drive. Also make sure you have a PS3/UPDATE folders on your drive with the custom firmware updat.pup in that folder. Check all above and fat32 format USB and should work fine

Learn how to use a jailbreak before you jailbreak
Awesome.. Took me 2 days and 3 devices (watch vid on tablet, use laptop as downloader/SD writer and phone as kWS server!) but It friggin works! Id suggest you watch this entire vid before following along, and all the links are in the comments, no need to try and read the address bar on the screen to find the NAND flash writer (link broken anyway!) 2 points to consider: 2 links are broken with download options hashed out, need to go find the files on your own as they are on other servers too. Second is the kWS server. It may not work with the PS3WRITE folder even if you change the home directory. I had to enable Directory index for some reason then it worked, the PS3DUMP worked correctly right off the bat. When inputting the 192.168.10.20:8000/nor-482.html, my web browser wouldnt take the last l in html for some reason, as it ran out of characters? I had to make the 192.168.10.20:8000/nor-482.html the home page (it let me write the whole thing out) and then I just hit home in the ps3 browser and it took me right there. strange but true.
Good job, but why follow this video? The latest method and video I have is for the latest firmware and is much easier/faster/safer.
And, of course, it works like a charm. Just a note for those who get their PS3 frozen(screen freeze) when executing NAND/NOR writer: If your screen freezes, simply edit your nor/nand-248.html file, find this piece of text: "setTimeout(trigger,500,jump_1_addr);", for me it's line 204, and change this to: "trigger(jump_1_addr);", without quotes. +MrMario2011 it would be nice if you could add that to description.

Those same models were "Jailbreak compatible" (downgradable to 3.55)
This new method just lets you do it without a hardware flasher.
The prices for used ones of this type might go up, because it became easier to jailbreak (as long as it has 4.82 and below)
Sucks that 3000 model and Super Slim especially are not compatible (not a shocker, because the CFWs are based on 3.55) (since that was the last firmware they were able to get the keys for, before sony beefed up security).
Why do that when you can jailbreak them and sell them for even more?
Because scalpers are lazy and want a quick turnaround rate.

i bought once a 3.55 nand console with a 500go hdd for a bunch of money just for the benefits of multiman, and after a year it had the ylod ..... that was one of my sadest gaming moments ever.... but today i tried the heat gun method once again on my very first ps3 which got also the ylod, the last one wouldnt work anymore ;/ , but i accidently heated it a couple of hours, so much the serial number burnt out of it.... but then i tried it and it worked again!!! after nearly 8 years sleeping.... and guess what i did, old 500go hdd slided in, and done your tutorial! Man you brought me back so many memories of my first cfw ps3, that is just amazing.

Damn it all, I liked being able to punish those bastards.
There's lot's already! One thing MrMario2011 should do a video, is "HOW TO PREVENT YOUR PS3 (IDPS) AND PERSONAL ACCOUNT BEING BANNED". There's lot's already banned, cause they used to OFW and forgot that with CFW isn't like it. You must disable AUTO LOGIN into PSN (just let the password ticked) and before login PSN (and have your game loaded (like a original disc, but disable the auto game loading on the settings)) you must use PSNPatch 2017.2b (is more than enough, or SEN ENABLER, i personaly just use PSNPatch - just enter it and hit /\) to disable the CFW syscalls and clear all the logs. And most imporant NEVER but NEVER mess around with unsigned homebrews (multiman, webman, movian, ...) while logged into PSN or it's a instant ban! This for the people that want to go online. For off line there's no need to disable the CFW syscalls!

Awesome tutorial! After modding my own PS3 then sold it, I've been so out of the loop on this for a few years that I thought the E3 Flasher was still required. I'm going to try this on a friend's PS3, especially the part where I need to set up a webserver on my phone. That I also had no idea Android could do... and I develop custom kernels and ROMs for my phone!

I hacked my PS3 today, initially with this method, but it turns out they made it a LOT easier recently.
Instead of setting up a web server, you just have to put *flash_482.hex* in the root of your flash drive, put it in the right USB slot, start the PS3 internet browser and surf to _ps3xploit dot com_
Once there, you can surf to the right tools page (in my case _Flash Writer >> Write Flash From USB >> NOR_ and follow the instructions.
Next step is to put the CFW in the map PS3\UPDATE on your flash drive, put it in your PS3 and initialize a system update.
And that's it!

You can do that without a jailbreak, just pop the disc into a Blu-Ray drive on your PC and rip it over :p

For multiman just go on brewology, they have every homebrew you could ever need, including multiman.

I still have my old Fat PS3 from 2006 (yes, it's the first 60 GB version and that tool showed that the lowest version that this PS3 runs is 1.00!) and i had a CFW running before.. until GTA V came out and i had to remove everything so i can play online... That was a big mistake since the online mode sucks and i couldn't play all my games of the HDD anymore.. After 5 years of waiting, i can finally install CFW's on my ps3 again.

Thank you! Never thought I would jailbreak my old ass PS3. For those getting frozen on Success , what I did is formatted the USB (didn't seem to do anything but still did) , I started another miniweb on my PC this time (first one was on my android) , and I connected my PS3 to a router , with wires ( I know , 2018). That did it!

Well as a general disclaimer - any modifications you do will carry a risk alongside them, whether that be your data and/or console.
From a logical viewpoint - Your data should be fine, this is like running an update, not setting up a new console.
I'd rather just buy another PS3 for jailbreaking and keep the PS3 u got as a main ps3. They're pretty cheap

Fantastic Guide, used this to CFW my PS3. Sadly, I missed the ease of downloading updates and using Netflix or UA-cam on the console. Maybe at the end of the year, when PS3 is no longer supported by Sony, I'll reconsider hacking the PS3 again. I'm confident the community will still be able to crack whatever Sony throws at it in the meantime.

What is rebug used for?
Rebug is a custom firmware. Go to Rebug.me to download, and I would recommend the 4.81 REX edition firmware. 4.82 is LITE, and won’t have features asides from what’s in every other custom firmware.

This worked for me. Just make sure you pay attention to whether your console requires NAND or NOR. Also, at the writing part, it may take a couple attempts. It did for me!

This was a great video. I did have to make some modifications somewhat due to the fact that there's now a version 2.0 of the NOR/NAND exploits, but it was easy enough to fumble through after seeing how yours worked (system doesn't automatically beep and shut down with the new exploits, for example)

Cheers MrMario for video and PS3Xploit Team for tools. Look like I was able to make pretty good deal, bought PS3 model 25xxB for 40eur. Had to rely to time code to pick good console for CFW wise. Seller was bit paranoid, she didn't let me to use minver checker before closing deal. Look like all is golden minver 3.5 and installed OFW is 4.7x. Haven't done anything yet, but probably at some point I might.
By looking procedure it look almost easyer than finding you and P3Xploit Team :) . Most what I found was outdated or down right shady. I have earlyer experience from soft and hard modding couple PS2 versions.

So basically I'm pretty new to this jailbreaking stuff and I wanted jailbreak so I can mod some games I finished. Turns out ferrox isn't the best for modding stuff, and Cobra is better, so can I install a Cobra CFW while having my ferrox CFW without damaging anything?

I followed this. I used a mac. I used the app KeKe to open rar files.
I updated my ps3 to 4.82 from 4.78
Macs already have a web server built in. I just put the files in /Library/WebServer/Documents (you need the password to do that)
the version of nor dumper I used didn't reboot the ps3. it said it was done, I exited the browser then I turned the ps3 off manual, then turned it back on.
the version of nor writer also didn't reboot the ps3. I turned it off after exiting the browser. Everything worked like in the video above even if it looked
a little different.
I didn't format my usb drive. it's full of files. Make sure your file PS3UPDAT has the .PUP extension
I had to do the update twice because it didn't work the first time but it did work on the second time

I used the server links supplied on psx-place and it worked perfectly how you said it would. The writer has updated and completed without powering down though and all still worked fine :)

Another great tutorial. Worked perfectly for me although the nor dump took close to 30 minutes. Could have been a usb stick issue but I just left ps3 alone until it shut down. The end result is excellent and even was able to use ntfs external hard drive to copy games to internal hdd with multiman.
Chris Johnson did it freeze on success screen tho ? Mine keeps getting frozen and I keep restarting after 10 mins
KatouMiwa that's exactly where it would freeze. The second ps3 I did took 30-40 mins for dump to be successful. Just leave it on success screen and eventually it should turn itself off with successful dump

Adam Szczęsny all fat ps3s can be jailbroken, just follow the same steps in the video, and if it freezes for you when you get success at writer then use a different USB
