FHIR integration challenges and what to expect for your integration project

Just like any standard we need to approach more of a critical mass perspective for adoption. One current challenge is broad-scale EHR support.
What's mandated through the Cures Act, there are certain gates and timelines by which those mandates need to be in place. And so you'll see innovators like the Epic's of the world, the Cerner's of the world, the Allscripts… building an API arsenal and making them publicly available for their own partnership purposes. For their own customers and clients and healthcare entities.
Nick adds, “So I think you're gonna see, just like most markets, leaders push the standard that will be available. And they're gonna do that in a way that (A) makes them compliant with the industry regulations; but (B), supports what business objectives they're trying to accomplish. So I think wide-scale challenges right now is you might not see-I'll call it the long tail of the EHR market-just heavy FHIR availability beyond just your basic reads.”
