Since for whatever reason some people are stating that this is not a pure Titan... A pure Titan is a human who has been transformed into a Titan using spinal fluid, which is exactly how Rod Reiss transformed, even though he licked it and it wasn't injected. The Titan can still be abnormal as well. On just about every site including the AoT wiki, he is called the largest of all pure titans.

I mean a, it's legs are incredibly stubby and relatively short and b, there's absolutely no way the legs would be able to support the titans immense weight.

Its a nice touch that rods titan could not stand up on its own considering that right before he transforms, He had broke his back. Thats why his titan was crawling instead of walking aswell and why it needed the support of the wall to stand straight.

Also, it's too heavy. You can see the collosal titan has a different shape to account for the extra weight, much wider legs relative to its body size. The Rod titan didn't even have that psychology to deal with the extra weight and given it was twice the height and thus around eight times the weight of the collosal, it may not have been able even to stand up if it had the right shape.
It may also have been due to the fact it wasn’t injected as to why his titans form was so weird compared to the others if you remember he licked it off the ground.

I don't think he could see, I think he was just reacting to all of the noise. He was able to find the walls because, if I remember right, they kinda sense the large human presence, and the scouts had concentrated civilians into that area to lure him over.

How did Rod Reiss know he couldn't be allowed to be turned into a titan? Before Historia refuses to be injected, he tells her that he cannot be allowed to.
Because he didn't want to, he's a coward who didn't want to be cursed with not only the original king's memories/influence but with the shortened lifespan, that's why he manipulated Historia and wanted her to take the burden instead, he was just using her.

I thought he somehow had knowledge that he'd turn into the turkey titan and how that would obviously be problematic.
It was because if he became a titan the (legitimate) royal family on the island would have died out. As Historia was an illegitimate child and didn't know the royal family history. It's the same reason that the head of the war hammer titan family wasn't actually the titan himself it was a maid.

I always wondered how he was able to maintain his skin, as I thought the reason the Colossal didn't have skin was because he was too large to regenerate that. I thought the reason that Ymir's Titan had skin (founder, not Scout Ymir) was because she was the first and kinda had more control over how they worked.
Also- Did Krista see Rod's memories, is that what happened just then? I don't remember that bit, and so I'd never really thought about it till now.
i think he was able to keep his skin because if you look at his legs, his legs are barely close to being tall, and maybe because when his back broke, he didnt have any strong bones allowing him to use more power to keep his skin, although that kind of depends on Ymir since she makes the titans

Is this really a pure titan? Cuz why is rod reiss still piloting it like a shifter? Pure titans aren't piloted by humans. They are the humans.
My best understanding of it is that he’s more like an abnormal Titan. While it’s definitely at a super extreme level in terms of his size and shape, it’s not too dissimilar from how other abnormals have acted before. They’d often ignore some humans in favor of others, or sometimes move and act in weird ways before deciding to eat someone. We’ve even, in one extreme example, seen a pure Titan bow and talk in reverence to who it thought was its god.
The giant size could be a result of the injection not being taken properly, but ignoring small groups of soldiers and making a full speed advance towards the largest concentration of humans it can see really isn’t that far fetched of an abnormal behavior.
@nullion9358 yes, but it still doesn't explain why reiss was still in there like a shifter. I can buy that it's an abnormal, but that still implies it's a pure titan, with quirks. That's what abnormals are, at the end of the day. But even those didn't have pilots intact.

@mffthefrog1307 he came out of it after eren blew it up, and Historia killed him. Even if he wasn't piloting it, he was still in there as a human, like a shifter would be. Pure/abnormal titans don't have a human in them. The human transforms into the titan. So this reiss titan is one of a kind.
