Nice video. Very helpful. I was trying to do this and this is great help. You offroad video contributed to my decision to buy the 2022. Same color as yours. Did 1200 km on the first week end riding from Los Angeles to Lake Tahoe and camping in the Sierra Nevada along the way.
Great to hear Valery. I hope you are enjoying the bike and I didn't give bad advice! I spent a week at Donner Lake and about a month in California before coming back to Australia, loved it and can imagine you had an amazing time
I would flip those blue terminals over that connect to the back of the 12v outlet. Just thinking if water were to ever get in there, it’ll drain out better with those pointed downward.
Nice job, thanks mate- I'm doing mine tonight. I'm going to splice two tails from the power supply and wire up some fog lights too... (better do all that before I put the crash bars on: ). Ill keep the other plug for some heated grips.
Hi Curtis. I installed the socket today with relay and socket from Jaycar here in NZ. Easy as. The only bloody mission was getting access to the bullet plug & socket behind the dash. Works perfect. Cheers for your help. Grant
This video really saves cause Australia dealer only introduced the basic and adventure model with middle tier traveler model missing. I thought I need to pay $1000 more to get this power output with those pannier cases ( I rarely use them in city commute). Thanks for this intro video.
With your videos you teached me is better to buy the basic model. For me, the basic ABS model. Wating it arrive to Colombia. I had a 2010 Gen 2, since 2013 i have a KTM 990 ADV, but wanting to have both. Thanks for your great videos.
Great video! Looking forward to seeing if you install some aux driving lights and how that works. Waiting on delivery of my bike now. I figured for the price cost of and Adv model I could get the base model and add the port and lights myself etc and save a bit.
Good idea, exactly what I'm doing except I'm probably going to give the lights a miss. I do know where to plug them into though, so I could do a video on that too help some people out
Great job... I put my usb charger on that side using a Scanstrut waterproof dual usb. I see the only thing you didn't cover was which connector was positive and which one was negative, that would have been helpful for those doing the install... of course, you can just pull out the handy VOM and check which wire is positive and which is negative.
Yeah I realised afterwards that I left that bit out! It was a messy filming process that day, had to juggle the baby at times so I went 'stuff it'. The Scanstrut looks like a really nice bit of kit
@@onthebackwheel Still an excellent job... helps out a lot of people plus it's a lot cheaper to build the KLR out yourself than to get the adventure model. Yes, it may take a little longer to build but you get what you want and are not stuck with a lot of extra stuff you didn't want in the first place.
love it. Now how about the other port on the other side, is there another slot for a relay on the other side or could you just mount two from that one set of factory bullet connectors? thanks keep up the good work.
The one relay does both. I didn't end up installing one on the left as they didn't have an affordable option at the time, but you can now get aftermarket ones that are well priced. Never installed one so can't tell you more than that sorry
You'll have to use a test light or just turn the ignition on to check it before you put it all together. I can remember which one was which and don't have my bike in front of me
Good video mate! Im looking at getting a new klr soon and tossing up between the base model and adventure model. Do you reckon the base model is the way to go and just do little mods along the way?
Thanks Brock. Depends what you want to do. The adventure is great value, it is roughly $2200 of gear (all installed too) for $1000. The base rides a little bit better because it simply has less gear and weight. Personally, I'm putting that thousand bucks to mods I want. If the adventure came in tan, I might have got one and sold the gear I didnt want (panniers and lights)
Thank you from the United States 🇺🇸 for this.
Happy to help
Clear, concise and easy to follow. Much appreciated 👍
Thanks for the video! I bought an aftermarket DC port and relay. It’s great too have you making these videos.

Thanks for the guidance! Installed mine following your video today!!!
Thanks. I was considering buying the upgraded version just for the USB components but seeing this i think I will just get the base model.

Heated grips, great item to have
thanks bro!!! just bought my '22 klr yesterday!!! great video! thank you so much for the information. Subbed!

Thanks for this! Subscribed. Going to throw a USB port into my KLR this morning before a long ride!

Great tutorial. Looking forward to many more!
I am curious about the USB blanking plate too, I'm very surprised that the micro relay just plugs right in. Great video.
Cheers. I did play fiddle with the USB too, I might do a really quick video on it

Nice mate, hope it went well
Awesome bud👍🏾👍🏾👍🏾
Thanks 👍
Thanks mate for a fantastic video. I will pop into Jaycar here in NZ and get the relay and socket tomorrow. You are a bloody legend. Cheers Grant
Thanks Grant, glad I could help
I really like this machine!
Hope to see more of it brother

Another great video 😊
Thanks mate
Well done!! ("... that's what she said ..." I caught that line, LOL)
Haha glad someone picked it up
When I looked up the repay number it’s coming up as a horn relay for me and when I looked at your link below it came up as a horn relay as well
Been a while so it's testing the memory. It could very well be a horn relay, long as it works I spose
@@onthebackwheelyeah well I guess there’s only one way to find out I guess

Super install, that!!! Saving money, plus the satisfaction of getting the job done yourself....winner!!!
p.s. any word on theDuke?
Thanks mate! Hoping the Duke will be fixed either tomorrow or in the coming days 🤞
That’s a great tutorial thank you :)
Are there connections behind the faring for auxiliary lights too?
Yes, on the left hand side there is a plug. You can get a matching plug or splice it
Is there a relay on the other side if u want to install oem part and the cigarette lighter
One relay does both, makes it easy
Ok.. Nice job... When are you doing the exhaust?? Apparently Yoshimura have 1..
ASAP. Sourcing one atm and a tune, probably going to be an FMF at this stage
@@onthebackwheel do they have 1 or are you going to modify?
Awesome job. Looks better too. USBC next?
Thanks. Possibly, they are expensive so I'll have a think on it
My cigarette lighter is marked + - but the bullet ends from the bike are not ??
You'll have to use a test light or just turn the ignition on to check it before you put it all together. I can remember which one was which and don't have my bike in front of me

Get the Adventure. Picked mine up 2 week ago... Its great

@@onthebackwheel Thanks for the reply mate. I really like the tan/khaki aswell
@@BC-vi2iy no worries. The Khaki does look good!
So, dumb question, how do you know which wire is positive and which is neg.?
I've had a few people msg me about that, not a dumb question at all! Let me go through my msgs, I can't remember off the top of my head
Hi mate. Do you know if the 2018 bark busters will fit a 2022KLR as I have just bought a 2022KLR Adventure.
Should do Tony, go for it!
Was the male bullet connector on bike positive?
That's testing my memory, but I believe so. I'd double check with a test light or multimeter though
@@onthebackwheel I got it.. actually the female was pos!
Where to find things fore the other punchout on klr650?
I believe you can only use the OEM Kawasaki part there due to the shape. Happy to be corrected by someone
@@onthebackwheel i was worried about that
Are you going to do the doohickey?
Time to give it a rest Brent
I don't see the link for the relay
Apologies, I've been meaning to add a quick how to on my website but haven't had the time. I've added the one I used to the video description
Why wouldn't you save 100's of dollars and just add the outlet yourself?
Great video, thanks.
My thoughts too
OR spend a very very small amount more of money and Just buy the ADV ABS Model.........
It is a small difference if you're using the gear on the adv model. For me that's a thousand bucks I can spend on mods
