Being an "otaku" isn't a good thing, and it's not something to be proud of. It's not really comparable to nerds either. Nerds are seen as a positive thing in society, and nowadays it's "cool" to be a nerd. An otaku is a guy who's so obsessed with video games, anime, and the internet that they're unemployed, have zero social skills, are inherently assholes, and are basically seen as disgusting man children. If you unironically identify yourself as an otaku, you're basically labeling yourself as a waste of space.
It's not something to be proud of or flaunt around like a badge of honour like a lot of people seem to think. In Japan it has an insanely negative meaning. Being called an otaku isn't even remotely comparable to being called a nerd, it's far _far_ worse. So yes if you label yourself as one you deserve to be mocked. You're being a fucking weeaboo who doesn't even know they're insulting themselves. And this comes from someone who actually watches and enjoys some anime and reads a bit of manga.

If they made (or I've seen and had money on hand) Harry Potter ones, I'd probably get them, because then I don't have to look at the uncanny valley every time I look at my _Doctor Who_ or _Harry Potter_ figures. Cuz my _Potter_ figures are super creepy with their attempt-at-realistic faces. I think the style works for some things, but not all of them. Like Disney and _My Little Pony_, the style fits. Not so much with things that are supposed to be scary or intimidating.

@@MattMatt909 Because it takes unique designs and applies them to the lowest common denominator, there will be something that you like that they have been made, aliens, superheroes literally anything pop/movie/game culture, I don't think they're terrible I just don't see the point, they don't do anything and they look terrible if you wanted a good replica of a model/figure. I think most of the hate comes from them saturating the market with millions of these figures.

I actually enjoy loot crate since I live in Finland and we don't really have any of that stuff in stores here. So the loot crate is great value for me.

All these loot boxes are basically just Barney Stinson's "cheerleader effect" applied to nerdy knicknacks. Each item individually is undoubtedly junk, but put all together in a "treasure box" they give an appearance of something valuable and attractive.
