Love this watch! My Grandfather was given one by his company for 35 years of service in the 80's. He left the watch to my father who then left it for my brother and I. We only wear it out to special occasions but we definitely feel like a boss when we do haha.
I sold my mint condition full set Datejust 16013 from 1984 (it had been unworn until 2015) and got a 10838 Day-Date with the same dial as this 18238. It is a stunning watch, I love it and the gold just has a such unique dept to it and the presidential bracelet is so much better than the jubilet. The only problem is that gold is a soft material and you have to be more careful when you wear it, that is where my two-liner Submariner comes in handy!
Vladan Sretenovic Hi Vladan, thank you for viewing our channel! Rolex mastered this design from its first model in 1955; the Day-Date has changed less than any other Rolex over the last 60 years :-) I agree that it has elegance to spare - and all in a classical size! Best, Tim
I haven't seen any models with the inverted (bottom) roman numerals. (Like this one) Are these more "rare" than the regular setup? (Usually numbers V - VIII are upside-down to the wearer)
Hi dear, First of all big props for the neat review as always. I recently purchased a 18238 in very good condition with diamond dial and I absolutely love it. But the pedantic me is now messing with my head after reading countless reviews on the newer model 118238 with solid links and that weighs around 25% heavier. I wanted to know your insight on whether it is really worth it to upgrade or not? I plan on keeping the watch for as long as I can so I would think that a more valuable and sturdier bracelet would last me longer. Thanks in advance for your piece of advice. Regards, Vinh
I just bought one and its exactly like this one you are showing. It fits me but I think it will fill more comfortable if I add one more link . How can i find one thts authentic
As much as I want to dismiss this watch as a watch for car salesmen, I can't help but love it. The Datejust & Daydate were the watches that drew me in as a kid & deep down I know I need a DD in my collection. Thanks again for the vid.
***** Hi Nigel, I know how you feel. Despite the receding memories of 1980s excess, it's hard not to love the original Day-Date. A 36mm case and substantial history go a long way towards endearing the model to connoisseurs. In the hand, the finish and the substantial feel live up to the hype. Colored gold doesn't always appeal to me, but it's hard to imagine a DD in any other material. A ref 1803 with green "stella" dial, yellow gold case, and British Racing green gator strap might be my ideal Day-Date... Best, Tim
Hi! The watch in this video sold many years ago. Here's our current inventory in this reference, with pricing: www.thewatchbox.com/search/?q=18238 Thanks for watchnig!

+Fredrik29Sweden Hi Fredrik, this one has been sold, but in general, the 18238 of this vintage will command $10,000-$12,000 US depending on condition, dial design, and accessory set. Best, Tim
to be honest i really like this watch but i feel like the yellow gold is a bit too overwhelming wish they made a version in white gold. great review though :)
prince of beirut Yellow gold is *very* powerful. The look and luster of it are so dramatic that it absolutely dominates any watch, jewelry, or accessories that feature it. White gold Day-Dates do exist, and there are some exceptional 18239 models from the mid-90s that represent tremendous value for the amount of gold and watchmaking quality that you get for the money (figure $12-$15k USD). The ones with sunburst metallic anthracite and blue dials are to-die-for. Best, Tim
watchuwantinc did my research and it is truly amazing in white gold with a blue dial ! by the way i bought a datejust 2 few days ago from the Rolex dealership and the watch did not fit my hand. is it normal that i had to pay an extra 200 dollars for 2 extra links ? just curious :)
200 dollars for two links in precious metal may be correct depending on exchange rates, but I feel like the watch should have shipped with enough links to fit an 8" (20cm) wrist. It's rare to see a Rolex require more links than supplied new with the watch, because they usually ship with more links than necessary and must be sized downward. Best, Tim
I have the 18038 with the diamond markers. It really catches the light well and the diamonds twinkle like stars. Love it ❤

I love my Rolex I have the same one
I've got one lined up in Rome. I'll fly out and pick it up after corona ends. When ever that is.
Welcome to the club
I just bought one, with bark finish on band.
I haven't seen any models with the inverted (bottom) roman numerals. (Like this one)

Both I have 18238 and 18386 for 30 yr's / 20 yr's ...
I gave up a seldom seen white gold 1803 -head only for a yellow gold 1807 on bracelet. This video makes me feel better about my choice.
I just bought one and its exactly like this one you are showing. It fits me but I think it will fill more comfortable if I add one more link . How can i find one thts authentic
I love it but I cant afford it
Beautiful watch. Classic
Is it solid 18k? Both the bracelet and the watch?
yes sir. all Rolex watches in precious metals are solid including the platinum.
For watches they're over priced, but Rolex is both watch and jewelry.
I own the same watch. Can’t beat the class of a rolex
Confidence and panash? I dont have the funds to wear it properly.

i think this and the nautilus bracelets are the best all time watch bracelets
exactly why I got a modified one for a bracelet smothered in diamonds for £9,000 (rrp $40,000)
nah man that misses the point entirely
on a watch, it would look ugly but I have my two-tone GMT-master on my right wrist and that bracelet on the left
I think the Audemars Piguet Royal Oak has a really good bracelet.
that's my 5th favourite bracelet
I have that same dial on a rolex 18038 seems to me like the dial here is out dated ???
love it
CrystalClear vlog has
