Hello Slim. I do enjoy your great videos but I do have one question for you mate and that is : How about protecting yourself from wild animals or even bad and senseless people?
Your narrative voice is as calming as the nature you immortalize. Your sobriety is paradoxically enriching. Your photographic ability can compare with the best. Yes, I am inspired.
I retired 2 years ago. I'm back doing what I loved to do as a kid. Watching the clouds roll by...watching butterflies dance in the wind...and walking with nature. Moving to upper Michigan to find peace again in the woods. Beautiful video. Thank you.
i like that you don't flaunt vegetarianism. I've been watching over the past year and i don't think i've heard you say your a vegetarian. Most people (in my experience) are quick to say their a vegetarian and spit their views like people give a damn hahaha. you really are a humble person. keep on keepin on.
He surprised me too. Compared to my daughters who try to shove it down my throat every chance they get. I really appreciate that about him. He is so peaceful
Since my days in boy scouts (60 years ago), I've (mom did) always taken a double bed sheet, folded it in half, sewed up the bottom and about 1/3 of the way up the open side and use that for a sleeping bag liner. That way I can wash the liner often and seldom ever have to launder or clean the sleeping bag. I used that for tent camping, rv living, and in the sleeper in my semi for many years. Thanks for your video's
this is really showing my age, but waterbed sheets are already attached at the bottom.. and come in twin sizes, or they used to... yes, I still sleep in a waterbed and wouldn't trade it for anything...saves a little time sewing...
Great information. You set such an excellent example for others as you clean the campsite, discuss enjoying nature, boondocking and speak very practically about your way of life. Your videography is also extremely high quality! It was a joy to watch from beginning to end🙏🏼🙌🏼
Wow, thanks Elsa! Your videos are always an inspiration to me, as you view life with such a good outlook and have the artistic ability to show it so well. If only I could do half as good I would be happy! SP
I’m going to watch this video over and over again. You don’t know how much I love your filming, your stories, your ventures. I can’t tell you enough or how much in words your videos have helped me. I don’t even know if you read what I post but you are wonderful and I envy what you are able to do. Maybe someday I’ll be exploring and living more close to nature instead of being stuck in a city. Thank you again for all of your work!
You said ask people, well what if they don't want to tell you, like you said I'm not going to tell where I'm at .I don't blame you for not telling us where you are. If you did more people would be there enjoying the places. And then you may have the space you need .I live near one of the top ten bike n hike trails in U. S. , It's on a old railroad beds.i didn't like it when they first made it, I had to share it and the privacy was gone mostly. But I realized it was special and should be open to everyone. It's called "The Virginia Creeper Trail" parts of the A.T. run with it and both go right down the middle of the little town I live in, Damascus,VA. You should check it out sometimes.
I personally think your wood stove creation is absolute genius! Oven, hopper, cooking top, recharge phone, Amazing. I wood think many full timers would want one. Happy travels Slim and thank you for your great videos.
September 24, 2024, in Maryland, USA, it's been four years since you posted this video, but I still find it incredibly enjoyable. Your travels through Maryland have showcased sites that I've never had the opportunity to see. I believe many of us are drawn to your videos not only for the places you visit, but also for the innovative modifications you've made to your trailer, to upgrading your Jeep to a truck. Your videos are not just about travel, but they also serve as a reminder of the essence of life. Your storytelling and narration skills are truly remarkable. Thank you also for showing parts of Canada. My father’s side of the family is from Pickering, Ontario. I know there is a general store as a landmark for his family. The name is Wise. Although I live in Maryland, I retired from the Army after 20 years, daughter of a military retiree also. One day I would like to go there and see the sights. Till then I will continue to enjoy your video’s.
Love going on these journey's with you. You go places and see things I'll never see. You are doing things I'll never do. Don't apologize for being frugal and doing wats best for you. Love from Kansas 💜❤️💙💜
I’m glad you decided to document and share your travels. I’ve so total enjoy your videos. Even though I cannot travel like you do. The way you present them makes me feel that I am experiencing them along with you. Thank you....Back drop is beautiful!
@Daver G Would have been more surprising if you had checked the link for the bag, the vendor does like to ship outside of Canada. I simply posted for those who live in the U.S. who might want one and didn't want to pay for foreign shipping.
Solar definitely has a place, but if you are camping in Arizona you are likely to need air conditioning much more than you will in Alberta. The good news is that solar probably works better in AZ, the bad news is that it isn't practical to run AC for more than a few hours on solar.
I think 99.9% of the people that travel do it at a loss. Well a money loss. But then what you gain in what you see and discover it's up to you to put a price on. That's why regardless how much I travel or how much that costs, I don't need any outside money to consider it a big WIN!
While Slim does this for his enjoyment not all who travel are prepared to share their travels to other via youtube like he does and this does require extra outlays in software, cameras, planning, etc then the time expense in editing plus providing information on setups installation, reviews, etc so these involve more than just the costs of traveling for one's own entertainment. I hope Slim Potatohead does make some money from this as I, among many, want to keep watching what he produces.
Camping is a lot cheaper than other forms of vacationing. Even still, money spent enjoying the outdoors is never a loss. Some full-timers make a point of making money while living cheaply whether it is by being a campground host, a part-time job, or revenue from UA-cam/advertising or selling gear. In a few years, I will be retiring and be travelling a lot more. My investments will pay me and I won't need to do any of the above since I am a frugal spender.
A work of art, like all your videos, even when you're giving down-to-earth advice. Best photography I've seen on UA-cam, certainly. And you're so right, other people's noise is a curse of modern life.
Slim...always a delight!! Enjoy your videos. You are the real deal. Keep on doing what fills your heart. Loved the breakdown of all the "what ifs". Good job.
Reconvening - we always called that Afternoon Shift. Night shift is 11 pm to 7 am. I got stuck on it for 11 years. A miserable life and constantly tired. Take care buddy.
I'm a city dweller from the UK, I don't think I'd do well out in the wild for more than a night. But I get great enjoyment living vicariously through people like Slim who share this lifestyle with us. Thank and good luck in your future travels, long may they continue!
I really enjoyed this video. The scenery was magnificent and I really appreciate the tips you gave us. I've been trying to get the nerve to buy a little Runaway camper and do a little traveling. Maybe I will early next year. I've been collecting some equipment over the last couple of years, while watching your videos (and some others). I eat a Whole Food Plant Based diet, which has kept me pretty healthy for an old girl. I think I will require less refrigeration since I don't consume meat or dairy products. Thanks again for taking us on your journeys. God bless you!
BTW...that was a red squirrel, not a chipmunk :-) Wow, 12.5mpg with the Liberty??? I get 10.5mpg with my '18 RAM Rebel Hemi towing a 30', 7000 pound TT. I get 21mpg highway without towing. Never been to Idaho since we're limited to 1 week trip (pets at home) and 2 days to get there is too much time for now. Always REALLY enjoy your videos, Slim, and REALLY appreciate your environmentalism and the way you clean up after other pigs. I carry trash bags when hiking and do the same. 10 points for that! Safe travels and keep up the GREAT work! How about an episode on personal hygiene in the wilderness? :-)
Your videos are so beautiful and your voice so soothing and relaxing. Meditation for the soul. Now I want one of those duck print sleeping bags, sounds so cozy.
Nicely done. I loved all the views, and that you shifted the views periodically. That bit at the end when you disappeared while the fire kept on was cool. Happy travels!
I am also a solo retired cnd traveler, f150, 22'TT. 9 To 13 cnd mpg. But I only travel about 8000km per trip over 4 months down south. So I only uses about the same amount of fuel as I use per mth back home. So in my mind it's a wash. Food is food. I also boondocks 99% of the time like you. It's a, great life, love the back roads and small towns, the city no way!

Whippersnapper, that you are. 😊 It's good to be a vegetarian, but sometimes I go to my local butcher and buy myself a nice slice of cow, that had a name. And I enjoyed it some more. I think if you eat meat it has to be a feast day. Most people are not aware of the precious gifts of nature. For me it's your best video of them all. Many thanks for that!
I am so glad you share your videos..I enjoy them alot.. So glad I found your channel when I did.. I am inspired by your travels.. oh yes have a very happy canadian thanksgiving sir...
Back home after 4 days. 412 miles. 1st day 18 miles, then 169 miles. Then turned around and went back home. Learned that i had over thought my needs. Trailer too big, too many cloths, too much food. Too much of everything, Tow vehicle ok, gas mileage low but livable. Once i off load my untouched stuff i'm sure it will be better? Expenses were far less than i had planned for. Have not boon docked yet, but that's my plan. Slim, you;re videos are educational AND entertaining at the same time. Thanks. Ken
Few people will openly admit they made a mistake by buying a bigger/larger size towable & or tow vehicle. And most owners of Class A's & 5th Wheeler's spend thousands of dollars for porcelain toilets/bathrooms that they don't use because of the black tank cleanup MESS; instead, they stop @ anyplace with a public portapotty in preference to using their own bathrooms.
I can certainly understand that cities cause the most stress. Cities seem like ant hills to me, everyone is in a hurry to get somewhere and it all looks so chaotic.
I really enjoyed this video. You expressed my feelings exactly about bringing noise (generator, boom boxes, outdoor TVs, frappachino makers) into a beautiful natural environment. My feeling is if you need those things stay home. Thank you for great videos.
Ahhhh! That campfire looks so cozy and inviting ;-). Your pearls of wisdom, as well as your perspective, is much appreciated. Keep the videos coming...... peace!
Thank you for your words of wisdom. It is you that makes a difference in the world and how you see it. You tell it like it is and that's what keeps me interested and focused on following the traveling life. I have definitely learned a lot from you. Its what you get out of it that counts the most..
You sound a lot like me. I am a fellow solo traveller and travel when I can. Also do it frugally. I too enjoy meeting new people. Time to lighten the load as much as you can, to save on those fuel costs. Same in Australia, when we head to Central Australia, or Western Australia, compared to bigger towns around the East coast and a bit inland Fuel can cost a fortune. I car camp, and try and keep my set up gear as light as possible. I also try not to carry too much water until at or close to where I will be camping. Every litre of water equals a kilo of extra weight in your vehicle. I have collapsible water containers, which are fantastic for saving space too.
Just found your channel yesterday and I'm loving it.Me and my wife went across the country from S.C. to the Northwest then southwest last summer. We took a month off work.We had done alot of camping in a travel trailer at our local parks.Needless to say we made mistakes and we even got a blown engine on my wife's suv thar had a recall we knew nothing about.Always check for recalls before you set out and do 7500 miles in a month. It turned out bei g a very expensive trip but will never forget it.We are now planning on building a cargo trailer conversion and doing another trip for longer and with alot more knowledge of traveling
A calm voice from the hinterlands suggesting a quiet simple life. Your message, tone and tenor remind me of someone I have admired throughout my life time, one Henry David Thoreau. That old Walden Pond denizen. Verily, I give you many thanks, Slim.
Slim, Wanted to drop a note to say "Thank You" for your well thought out and produced videos. Your combination of interesting subject matter, easy going narration, music and photography/cinematography tends to pull in viewers and leave them looking forward to more. I'm sure "binge watching Slim Potatohead" will soon be a common saying. As an outdoorman who is having to transition into cabin and van camping due to medical reasons, you have open my eyes (and I am sure others) into a different way of enjoying a "less is more" outdoor experience with seeking out boon docking opportunities, common sense application of RV and Camper repairs and modifications. I recently viewed your video describing Crab Apple Wine, and as a home brewer of Hard Apple Cider, I enjoyed learning another way to enjoy the genus Malus. I hope to cross paths with you someday, to sit by the fire and enjoy an apple based beverage. Stay safe on the road, don't let the negative comments get you down, and keep showing folks in Canada and America what a beautiful part of the world we live in! God Bless. Don
Thank you so much for these gifts (your videos) especially now. They are delightful breaks from the uncertain world we live in now. With great appreciation.
Slim...you inspire me to get back too...what I enjoyed...the most...camping. As a kid I spent every weekend at the lake water skiing, camped out on the ground in a tent, with my family. More decades ago than I'll admit...were close in age...&...I'm finishing up on getting prepared to do what your doing. Only a weekend at a time...till it fells right! Thanks...& keep your advise coming...I will be watching.
New subcriber here. Love your videos, calm demeanor and honesty great to watch. I appreciate watching a Solo traveler that's enjoying and sharing his dreams and not showing us 22 minutes of cooking like in most other videos. Stay safe out there.
What a delight to find you. I look forward to seeing many more of your videos. Your inspirational and informative. Thank you so much for sharing. And safe travels to you
That was a great video. It sounds like having the energy efficient fridge is key and also using propane just for cooking makes it last a long time. I'm glad you have health insurance. I recently retired and hope to get into backpacking in a group at first for the exercise and scenery. Safe travels Slim.
Amen, brother!!! I am glad I came across your videos. I really am glad I watched the whole thing. I know it hit more why I like your travels more and more. Kindred souls. I backpack and do volunteer work on the Appalachian trail. I am longing to get out there more and enjoy nature and travel. Keep up your adventures and wish you the best. Hopefully, someday I can have you visit my East TN farm near the Great Smoky mtns.
Slim, thanks for another great video. You educate, you inspire, you entertain as you share your experiences. Thank you for the work you put into these videos and for sharing your thoughts.Sharing Your philosophy is as important as the beautiful scenery ! We love your commentary and discussion about travel and life in general!
I'm out camping in Oregon and definitely getting cold at night. Probably my last for this season. Keep bringing us these wonderful videos. Safe travels!
Thanks for posting this, you are an inspiration! You've created a great life for yourself and I hope you're proud of what you've done and the adventures you've had.
In my first year of retirement at 54 and can't stop thinking about this lifestyle. I found your channel and subscribed about a week ago. Binge watched all your videos and finally caught up with your latest. Your audience seems to cover all the things I could comment on. Whether it be the praise of your ingenuity or the genuineness of your character. I really appreciate your sense of humor. Hopefully, I can figure out how to make a transition over the next 6 months. I really appreciate the links you share to find the products you use. It helps me find them quickly or at least supplies a lead on what I may prefer. Keep on keeping on Slim. I wish you good health and peace of mind.

Love the disappearing act. Nice edit. The flames didn't even change.
What editing?!? It's my cloaking device. Handy for solo (and solar) travels! SP
Slim Potatohead what does that mean Slim? Cloaking device.
I guess you are not a Star Trek fan! SP
Thanks for sharing the bits and pieces of your travels.
Yes, all in a crazy rush to get to the cemetery. Cities all suck in my opinion. Country life is wonderful or living in a small town.
Keep the videos coming...... peace!
Poet, philosopher, economist, realist. Good stuff, Slim.
Thanks Slim it’s one of my favorite videos yet. I also love being away from the cities too!
Campfire at dusk *sigh* wish I was there listening to the fire crackle, another awesome video.
A calm voice from the hinterlands suggesting a quiet simple life. Your message, tone and tenor remind me of someone I have admired throughout my life time, one Henry David Thoreau. That old Walden Pond denizen. Verily, I give you many thanks, Slim.
Slim,
Wanted to drop a note to say "Thank You" for your well thought out and produced videos.
5:37 changing hoodies, just reminded me of mr Rogers ;)
Slim...you inspire me to get back too...what I enjoyed...the most...camping. As a kid I spent every weekend at the lake water skiing, camped out on the ground in a tent, with my family. More decades ago than I'll admit...were close in age...&...I'm finishing up on getting prepared to do what your doing. Only a weekend at a time...till it fells right! Thanks...& keep your advise coming...I will be watching.
A week passed already? Damn, how time flies, it's Monday again... Happy to see another one of your incredibly good videos, Slim!
Thank you.
Slim, thanks for another great video. You educate, you inspire, you entertain as you share your experiences. Thank you for the work you put into these videos and for sharing your thoughts.Sharing Your philosophy is as important as the beautiful scenery ! We love your commentary and discussion about travel and life in general!
Hey bro I love you show💚🤟👍😊
Absolutely wonderful as always, Slim!

I'm out camping in Oregon and definitely getting cold at night. Probably my last for this season.
Keep bringing us these wonderful videos.
Safe travels!
I love your philosophy... of hope for the best but PLAN for the worst! Always play it safe.
