It's probably harder to feel sympathy for a bug, most people don't like them in the first place. I don't like some, but I also dislike mice and still don't want them to be fed to other animals as long as they're still alive. If they're dead, why would I care? Getting eaten alive has to be a horrible and painful death, whether it's a bug, mammal, reptile, bird or whatever.
People are disquieted by the "natural evil" present in the animal kingdom, as they are so privileged as to be able to ignore its harsh aesthetic. It's an odd perspective - it looks like nature evolves life in competition with its own manifests, to new and complex heights, so that it may overcome itself with novel brutality. Life seeks the will to power. When I bring dead mice home, I look so cute that I rarely get told off. The spiders should try being as cute as me next time.
I don't usually like spiders but i find watching videos of them Interesting.. but like I'm watching this in the dark and my hair just touched my back and I almost had a heart attack lmfao
Wow Greg, this is my first visit to your channel, you have an amazing collection, the B.Smithi takedown was a sight to behold, and its stance was as if to say it's mines. Cool! Cool! Cool!
I like the close up of your wolf spider!! Since a kid I've always liked to catch wolf siders, feed em for a little bit, and then put them back. I had to do this in secrecy since my mom didn't approve lol
I don’t feed my collection on a defined schedule, but a store-bought cricked per week is plenty. Withhold food if the spider gets really fat and/or remove uneaten prey after 24 hrs. Any short, secure container will do. Fertilizer-free topsoil/potting soil is fine for a substrate.
Love your videos and your collection is awesome but I was curious why was the first T you fed not in an enclosure with substrate and all that, she was just standing on empty plastic?? Just curious.
The camera angle limits what you can see, but basically it was on the top portion of the lid of its enclosure, so I lifted it out of its base and laid it over on its side to feed. There’s cork bark with leaves and a base full of substrate as well, but none of that is in the shot.
Last count was 140, but the collection fluctuates all the time. Just sold a bunch and I’m trading 4 spiders for 5 others today. They’ll arrive in the mail tomorrow.
Wow, I had a Grammostola Porteri was i was a 20, I'm now 50.. ive been looking at T videos for a few months now and this one is the best I've seen. The huge variety of T's, substrates, Vivarium furniture, but most of all the lighting and camera your using brings out the colours amazingly well!!! Fabulous! Well either that or youve waited months for a molt and caught them in their best colours and then pasted all the video clips together. Absolutely loved this video. Does it take you long to film it all?
Thank you for the nice comment Justin! I made no effort to film any one of the spiders in regards to their molt cycle. They just look that good all the time! I did specifically buy a daylight-color-temperature bulb and softbox for filming. My iPod Touch picks up the colors splendidly! It takes several months to compile the shots and edit it all down. Sometimes I have to shoot a species more than once to get the take-down I want which is why I generally use small prey items for these videos. If I miss the shot, I can try again in a few hours or the next day without overfeeding the spider. Thanks for watching!
i'm a bit scared of spiders cuz they can easy kill a normal guy but idk why im enjoying this :D it's great!! Waiting for more :D I have only scorpion and agama this is not fun like this to give them food :D Greetings
I can't give you a definitive number. It's all based on the spider's age, abdomen size, and proximity to their next molt. If it's skinny, obviously feed it again. Slings should be fat so they can put that stored energy into growth. Juveniles should be chunky, but not enormous; they're still growing, and appreciate being well-fed. Adults should be plump, their abdomen only slightly larger than their carapace.
Hello.I am Korean. I'm watching the video clips. I wonder what you're using in the farm floor. Also, I wonder how do you keep cleaning and humidity of Pink toe?
Hello. Thank you for watching my videos. I use sphagnum peat moss as my prefered substrate in all of the enclosures. My A. metallica gets a water dish, but aside from that, I don't do anything to increase the ambient humidity. I pick out the leftover bolus' when I see them.
Can you please answer my question? I want to house my first T in a glass aquarium. What do I do about the lid, as I hear some Ts may climb up and then get their legs caught in the typical wire lids for reptiles. I really want to use a glass tank as it's cheap, can see the T very well, lasts years, etc. I want to avoid doing a DIY lid if possible or can I still use the wire lids just raise the subtstrate up, so the T can't fall a big distance. Any help is greatly appreciated.
What species and what size spider are you planning to house in this tank? While glass aquariums are relatively inexpensive and provide good floor space dimensions for terrestrial spiders, they're not the greatest due to their height. The screen lid can still be a problem even when the level of substrate is raised because the lid allows too much ventilation. Your water dishes will be dry in a day or two. If you live in the U.S. and I think you do, check out the display cases from Hobby Lobby. I use them for most of my collection and I think they're perfect. They're often cheaper than a glass aquariums and have a nice snug-fitting lid. Use their 40% off coupon at checkout and they become a steal! They are just as clear as glass, 1/4 the weight, and the ventilation holes drill or can be melted quite cleanly. Best of all they are short so you don't have to look at 2/3 of a tank of dirt. I think they're darn attractive with the two 45° bends in the corners plus they stack securely for when your addiction takes off and space is a premium. They're offered in a nice range of sizes for spiderlings all the way up to adults. Here's a link: www.hobbylobby.com/Crafts-Hobbies/Model-Kits/Display-Cases/15-1-2-x-7-x-6-Clear-Display-Case/p/909 That's the biggest one, and if you read the reviews you'll see other people have commented on how useful they are for housing tarantulas haha! That one is now only $10 and some change with the coupon. Hope this helped!
Thanks, I am thinking of a curly hair or chacho golden knee; basically any beginner terrestrial T. I saw you mentioned this in a video but just not sure yet. So that biggest size you linked, is that good for a T that gets 6 inches. Obviously a t.stirmi wouldn't fit in there but what about 5-7 inch Ts. How many inches of substrate do you put in there? What do you use to drill holes with, do you have a video of it or a video of displaying yours? How secure is the lid to prevent escapes from adult Ts? Thanks again
The box is simply flipped upside down from how it's shown on the site. I show how I drill and set up a similar style acrylic box for my M. balfouri in this video: ua-cam.com/video/EeJeejf8iGY/v-deo.html www.dropbox.com/sh/9p86wqmm2oguyb6/AAD97llsQRNrM6cEOOk0thUua?dl=0 The link above shows photos of my adult female G. pulchripes in the largest size and she's very comfortable in there. I gave her a few inches of substrate and she's made some small rolling hills and seems happy to just sit in one spot for days.
Thanks for the help, one more thing. what specific tool do I use for drilling the holes? I've never used a drill before. I see some use a dremel tool then a drill and others only a drill. I don't know which type of dremel or drill to use and I want it to cost as cheap as possible. Thanks again
Dremel tools don't accept large drill bits, so I wouldn't bother with them. Any old corded or cordless drill is fine. Borrow one from a friend or buy a used one cheap. Get a nice sharp 1/4" - 3-8" drill bit from a hardware store for a couple bucks. I have an assortment of bit sizes. Tiny ones for slings' enclosures, and up to 1/2" for adults' enclosures. As far as drilled ventilation hole patterns are concerned, here's a thread on the topic with some good ideas. arachnoboards.com/threads/drilling-guides-for-ventilation-holes.292584/
Sorry to ask but why do u feed all ur Tarantulas such small prey, r all ur spiders tiny? Just always c others feed large roaches, super worms and big grubs I'm just curious . Thank u for sharing.
In these feeding videos, the goal is a strong feeding response for the camera and your enjoyment. Animals like tarantulas don't take direction well. Sometimes the response isn't the best or the shot is missed completely. In order to get another chance to re-shoot, I feed smaller prey so the spider isn't overfed.
not even sure why because i love watching cheetah documentaries on animal planet and all the crap but i feel bad when i see the insects trying to escape and repeatedly getting stabbed to death by a huge animal but I still want a tarantula
What the fuck am I doing I have college assignments due...
I Speak The Truth hjjik
Best feeding videos on UA-cam.
Finally! I missed your feeding videos so much. Greetings Greg.
Your collection is amazing!!
you make great feeding videos. Also I love all the different enclosures
You are one of my favorite youtubers :)
Fantastic video as always. Thank you.
It's so satisfying when it punctures the prey
Love how people dont care when live insects die, but they care when they see dead mice get eaten, the world we live in
It's probably harder to feel sympathy for a bug, most people don't like them in the first place. I guess u could say it's a bug eat bug world out there
enrique Durazo I don't

You know what they say. "The last thing the fly should EVER do in a spider's web is wiggle."
next to be fed is my finger....

Amazing collection and great video!

Great video! They are fascinating creatures! :D
Fantastic stuff. I need to step it up! Haha
Such an excellently done video! Loved every minute of it. Your camera really picks up the colour nuances of your stunning T's. 😉😁
I'm glad you appreciate them as much as I do. I should really do another big one soon.
Greg you make the best feeding videos. Great close ups so we can really see your wonderful tarantulas. Subscribed.
Thanks a lot Brian!

Thanks Rocco. It’s gonna be difficult to top this one for feeding video #17, but I’ll give it my best shot.
The speed of these guys...I mean, DAMN!!
They're pretty darn quick! Even the "docile" ones have lightning-fast attacks. Love them all!
good video man
Very nice video and beautiful spooders
Thank you Max!
awwww so cute
The tasty treat that can't be beat
What? Are you feeding him and how often. I’m interested in sleeping area and bedding material. I caught a big spider in my yard. Keeping for grandson
I don’t feed my collection on a defined schedule, but a store-bought cricked per week is plenty. Withhold food if the spider gets really fat and/or remove uneaten prey after 24 hrs. Any short, secure container will do. Fertilizer-free topsoil/potting soil is fine for a substrate.
awesome video bro keep it up
Nice video
Great vid! What was the name of the Aphonpelma at the end? (before the Marksi).
That one is A. eutylenum.
Gonna maybe pick up another Aphonopelma at the BTS. I think a Bicoloratum for sure. (if there are any there). (Oh I got a Marksi in the end).
Nice content Greg keep making videos
What camera do you use?
We talked about this in an Arachnoboards thread. It's a 6th Gen iPod touch.
Did we? Can't believe I forgot, and even harder to believe how good quality it has :D
I misspoke above. We discussed only frame rate, yours being higher at 50fps and mine only 30, not the camera.
Ah, cool, good to know I'm not that senile xD
The Dark Den Hello men!

Your G. Rosea is beautiful ❤
I really love spiders but I've to admit your salamander is terribly cute. :)
He's just adorable and always begging for food anytime he sees me. Get one!
I'm really thinking about get one now ! (and sadly girls don't love spiders so much) :)
Does it need a lot of place to be happy ?
A ten gallon aquarium half-full of dirt is plenty for a single individual to be happy.
Thanks bro, I'll look for it (I hope it's legal to buy it in Belgium or France).
See ya. ;)
That crunch sound when they it satisfying
Awesome! 3:37 is amazing!
the black one is soooo pretty
When’s that mythical Feeding video #16 coming 0.0

Will you be breeding your chalcodes this year?
Maybe. I'd like her to molt again and my male still has to mature.
i'm a bit scared of spiders cuz they can easy kill a normal guy but idk why im enjoying this :D it's great!! Waiting for more :D

that salamander is the bomb bro
He's the greatest! I love him dearly.
I'd like to know how much time is took to record and edit this video lol superb
Easily 30 hours shooting and editing.
Awesome webbing from your Darnley
I have a question, How many days to feed your pet tarantula again??
I can't give you a definitive number. It's all based on the spider's age, abdomen size, and proximity to their next molt.

It was a lot of help :)
Ew. I'm terrified of tarantulas, I got here by watching snake and gecko live feedings lol
Its cute
1:10 I didn’t even see that one! So well camouflaged
"Next to be fed"
In all seriousness, I'm at a loss for what else to say when introducing the next species.
What would you say?
Nothing. Just the species and that's it.
