Kylie on Neighbours 1986 - "I could be a singer"!

- Опубліковано 14 жов 2024
- This is an excerpt from an episode of Neighbours, where Charlene (Kylie Minogue) is approached to record a song for a music executive. This storyline mirrors almost what happened to Kylie in real life around 12 months later.
The clip also stars Jason Donovan, Guy Pearce, and Molly Meldrum.
I wouldn't mind rewatching those first years of Neighbours again. Good ol times!!
All here on youtube I've just been watching them for nostalgia
Omg!!! This is fooking classic!!!! Only expat aussies/ pommies will understand that all 3 men are absolute legends !!!!
I remember watching this when it first aired back in the 80's...Stopped watching after Kylie left but 30+ years later have nearly all of her albums and several of her concerts on dvd
Wow, this brings back memories. Used to love watching Neighbours in my school days back then. Only watched it with Jason & Kylie,, never watched it again after leaving school, but was something I used to look forward to watching. Weird how things like this crop up. Times where alot simpler then. Not stupidlly crazy like the world today. Never thought our world would be turned upside down & be as crazy, complicated, & over sensitised as it is now. The 80s & 90s was the best. I might have been just a kid & teen back then, but given a choice, I'd rather live in those days, rather than the ridiculous days of today. There was more respect & common sense back then, & people where tougher & just got on with it. 😎🙃😁💪💪🤘the 80s & 90s rocked🤘🤙👍👌😎💪💪, one of the best improvements of today's times, is the no smoking in pubs & indoor public spaces. 😎👌
everything is simple to a kid.
@@suave-rider In some respect yes that's true, but not completely.
I'm talking more in comparison to how life was simpler & better back then in many ways,, to how it is now for both kids & adults.
1- Parents, Schools & the police had more power, control & respect & better morals.
2- A teacher ect, could hug an upset / crying child.
3- Kids are now hammered with way too much homework that's not even relevant to their age & development stage.
4 - There was more jobs & better opportunities for school leavers, & adults in general.
5- supermarkets hadn't taken over so much, so there was lots of great small businesses.
6- There was more help & support for people.
7- If ya tripped or slipped, ya got up n got on with it, ( there was no silly suing malarkey for greed ect, )
8- Our country was more self sufficient.
9- Children's storys where what they where, ( now someone somewhere twists their meanings & takes offence.
10- If we needed to get vaccinated for something, we just did it without a fuss or big story.
Goin forward from all that, I'd say we've lost much more than we've gained.
Yes technology has helped improve some things, but it's also stole millions of jobs making our country much poorer.
@@sweetgothevo5897 so was it easier in 2012?
Agreed. I grew up in those days, and I missed it.
Your the same vintage as me. Oh, the 80's & 90"s were the best. The music , The Angels, AC/DC, ABBA, The Bay City Rollers (Not my cup of Tea), the VHS rentals, Remote Controls with cords, Beaches, Fish & Chips with Burgers (Which actually tasted like burgers, Henny Penny Red Roosters Hawaiian Box, no internet, no mobiles, finished school & played until dark instead of sitting on your bum these days playing Play Station or Computer Games. I would go back in a heart beat.
This turned up on my feed and it's hilarious 😂 Apart from the bad acting, what a paradox that the actors who played Scott, Charlene and Mike were speaking lines about never becoming famous, yet ended up super-famous not too long afterwards.
@Sheltering Sky there's nothing wrong with it, it's just the soap style of acting and quite normal for soaps.
@Sheltering Sky it's atrociously cheesy
They don’t have time for multiple takes. It’s a production, shooting multiple shows in a day.
Most ‘actors’ these days like on Marvel films just need to stand in front of a green screen and look amazed at nothing as post production edits in the battle scene and crescendo music.
Jason Donavon's acting is actually very good.
To a much lesser extent Jason Donavan had a few hits with stock aitken and waterman back in the late 80s but he was never the star that kylie and the other one is now.
Takes me back! I remember missing the wedding and unlike now, you couldn't watch it later, unless you'd set up the VCR.
Didn't anyone else record it at the time ?
The wonderful Molly Meldrum. Met him many, many times at work parties in Sydney throughout the late 90's. He was always the life of the party and everyone loved him. Then I bumped into him again randomly at a huge circuit party in Bangkok (edit: actually it was in Phuket but yeah still in Thailand of all places) in the mid 00's and he remembered me and we had a great chat by the dancefloor for about a half hour. One of the friendliest guys you could ever meet.
Are you a raging coke fiend and homosexual like him? Makes sense you met him many many times
Well. I would reconsider that. There is a speculation that he was messing around with children. I don't know if that is true, but there are many whom we admired that have been.
@@annabelgrace1267 not at all true. He was never into kiddies, only Asians 18+
@@suave-rider I don't know what to think, but his name has been mentioned. Until I see definitive proof for or otherwise, I am keeping people like him at arms length. If there is proof that he has done that, that bastard better pray for forgiveness and turn himself in.
So guilty till proven innocent? That’s a terrible attitude to have.
You do realise that allegations are made up all the time by lonely attention-seeking weirdos, and that’s all it takes these days to ruin a person’s reputation. A person who is completely innocent.
And people like you fall for it!
I think she is a great actress - i loved her in the Deliquents
Wow, art really imitated life here! Kylie got in first with the singing gig..Jason just tagged along.
I never watched one single episode of neighbour's, I really enjoyed this lol
Thanks for the trip down memory lane. I grew up a few streets away from where neighbours was filmed.
I can beat that.
I grew up in the next street from Jason Donovans house (Gibdon st Burnley) and used to see Kylie, Guy, Annie & Craig quite often.
One night my mate and me followed Kylie and Jason up to Toorak (Grange rd) when Kylie had just bought her new Red Ford Laser. We were parked opposite them and they wouldn't get out coz they knew we'd followed them.
A couple of times I saw Jason in the Milk Bar on Madden grove, one morning in 1988 he said "G'day" to me when I was on the way to work, complete with his boardshorts, white singlet and skateboard buying his milk.
Good times!
“I should be so lucky…”
How ironic, it came true in real life!
That's debatable.
Kylie as attractive as she is ..she can't sing to save her life
Lol
@@bigglesbiggles4999 Kylie Minogue is still successful and still a pop singer.
@@vanessalouise8988 and she still can't sing to save her life
The classic days of Neighbours when they kept it simple. Reg Watson certainly made some classics.
Reg Grundy FFS. Jesus
@@zapkvr You don't agree that he was behind some classic series, right back to his days with ATV in Birmingham?
Please don't blaspheme, it's highly offensive.
@@TapDancerDood hmm odd person
They didn't start introducing weaker actors until 1988.
Omg Guy Pearce I fucking fully forgot about him. Baby, love it
Everything Kylie ever touched turned to gold. She's always had the Midas touch.
The delinquents? Hahahaha
Well there was one thing she never got lucky with, that was marriage and kids.
I remember seeing her quite often in 1988/89 in Gibdon Street Burnley outside Jason's house.
We lived in Loyola Grove and nearly every friday night Jason, Kylie, Guy, Annie and Craig would be there, guitar tunes playing.
Once Kylie was standing right in the middle of the street, all 4ft 9 of her complete with freckles as I rode past on my bike.
Geez, nothing will ever match the 80s!
@@garynewton1263 Thankfully, her sister Dannii got lucky in that regard.
@@andrewbloom7637 Yes. I used to see Dannii at Phil's deli on Camberwell rd in 1982 as I attended Swinburne Tech school there. 3 or 4 times that year I saw her and her friends hanging outside on friday afternoons.
She was gorgeous then, left Kylie for dead.
She only made it cuz of the Poms.
Stock aitkin watermarn
It's mad, I recall this like it was yesterday, I was only 5 when I watched it! Just shows we valued only 3 channels and minimal time watching! ty
Wow it’s amazing molly didn’t become a regular on neighbours. His acting is absolutely phenomenal, perhaps only matched by his secretary
Lol
Definitely Oscar worthy
Haha, who would have thought Molly was a man
@@kenji-san4681 Who is Oscar Worthy? I've never heard of him.
Molly Played himself, while all other actors played other roles. you can't have someone acting long term playing themselves or he won't have any life of his own.
I could almost hear Kylie say “I should be so lucky” when offered the chance to sing.
6:12 look at moi
I’ve been watching neighbours since it first started. So sad that it’s been cancelled. Ty for sharing❤️🇦🇺
Cancelled? When? Its the longest running tv show in Australia's history.
@@garynewton1263 it was announced a couple of weeks ago sadly
@@shelleyburslem3802 ...hmmm............how come that shitty boring Home and away is allowed to continue? That would be the most uninteresting pile of shit I've ever witnessed on Aussie tv along with Gogglebox.
Haven't you heard Channel 7 might be picking it up and taking over Neighbours I heard something about it the other day
@@noelhenderson8095 oh really? To be honest Neighbours hasn't been as great as it was in the 90s however what puzzles me is how Home And Away remains, it's dreary and the story lines are pathetic.
I hope Neighbours remains on tv as it is currently the longest running Australian program in history.
Jason was a very good actor He had a lot of promise and talent.
It could be another Pseudo Echo, sooo fab!

Oh crikey I miss early Neighbours so much now 🤣 Poor Jason was doing so well till Brian Hanson showed up unannounced 🤣
This episode aired in the UK the same week 'I Should Be So Lucky' went to #1.
That's an awesome fact! Thanks for commenting :)
"Do yourself a favour" Molly's catchcry😂
this is exactly true 100% how the music industry works 🙂
I'll love Kylie eternally!!
Blimey I remember this! Being a UK viewer though, it was a lot later than 1986 for me - it was probably aired around 87/88 over here.
I'm pure glued watching this.
WTF? 😕
Really sad this won’t be on our TVs no more
Funny how no one heard a word from her when they were looking to save the show. Seems like the show should of been so lucky. Not Kylie.
@@HGCUPCAKES it should had ended 20 years ago...terrible bland characters for years
When Kylie released her first single I always thought back to this line 😂
The irony - Jason was always jealous of Kylie’s success and look how it turned out for both of them…
Loved those days.
Yes seems like yesterday
Even when I went on Holiday, Dad would record Neighbours for me!! Loved it ♥️
It was obviously freezing cold while they were walking along so kudos to them for not letting it affect their performances.
They’re so lovely those young people.
i remember these days if you couldnt get on the radio you had to send in tapes to a producer, now days you just upload a video to youtube or anywhere on social media and your in
That's right, some people these days don't realise how easy it is to get worldwide exposure!
Just because you are on the Internet doesn't mean to say you are talented because you uploaded a video with the wailings that resemble a strangled cat 🙄😳
Yes........and the artists these days who make it are very ordinary!
Lol
"Look, you're never gonna be a big star, none of us are" - Kylie Minogue to Jason Donovan 😂😂😂
A cameo not only by Mollie but by the late Lynn Randell who had a big hit with ‘ciao baby’ in 1967 and toured with the Monkees
Charlene's going for the Robert Plant look
Lol "we don't have to bash her"
I guess she really could be a singer ;)
At the time everybody thought it was crap, but I think only now can I fully appreciate the full extent of how crap it was. The writing, the acting, the direction, everything.
Very much so. At the time we rolled with it, but now, wow. Such wow.
"Sealed with a kiss" by Jason in 89 and "Rock the rock" by Craig McLachlan & check 1-2 were awesome tracks, back when there was a Melbourne Top 40 chart.
I'm guessing you're gay!

That's because political correctness ideology has infested all western media....its communism in disguise and it is wrecking Western democracies.
It is a specific ethnicity which is doing this....but you're not permitted to mention them....they are extraordinarily powerful.
@@bertplank8011 who are they?
Oh my god, Mike! 😂 Coming up for nearly 40 years now! Feel old...
Can't believe they have taken neighbours off absolutely madness
Why have they Kept home And Away on ???
Home and Away is produced and broadcast by different companies to Neighbours. It gets better ratings and isn’t wholly dependent on a UK broadcaster.
Home and away rates well in australia and is on a prime channel. Neighbours was relegated to a minor channel and doesn’t have a big Australian following. It only existed because the UK paid for it to be made and aired it on their local channel. When the UK decided it was too expansive nobody else wanted it
Both shows were OK in the 80’s and early 90’s. The real question is how did either of them survive on air since then. Absolute garbage these days. Both of them.
Exactly. Neighbours has always been far better than Home and away.
Home and away is for people who are in Coma's!
@@ashleydunstan5393 Agree Ashley. Used to be a great show then in the last decade became more and more "woke" with all their political correctness, "diversity" garbage. Definately time to pack it in, flogging a dead horse.
Well done though to Stefan Denis aka Paul Robinson. He really held his own after all those years. Great job. He was my favourite. 😊👏👏
Nearly everyone in Neighbours had a music career in the UK (Mike, Guy Pearce being the obvious exception with the movie career)
