With normal engines, the valve overlap is a compromise. They probably figured if there were some way to adjust the valve timing at certain speeds, they could decrease emissions AND increase power. It is not super complicated as far as how it works. What IS complicated is how they figured out the exact specifics like what speeds would be ideal to adjust the timing so much and how much oil should be fed to the advance/r3tard chambers. But that is why engineers get paid the big bucks.
If the inlet valves close late with the exhaust valve closed, the hot fumes go back to the inlet valves and return to the combustion chamber with oxygen plus carbon dioxide and some elements, this would not be as efficient on power as you may think because it is not exactly fully oxygen (it has been reused gases to burn again) and less cold air. This has put me off over the normal engine and I can blanked my own EGR it runs nice.
I had thought the same. How can i learn about more? It is like much more benefit for emission other than boosting engine power. But it is maybe about fluid mechanic also because not every rpm air intake be sucked into combustion chamber equally because of the property of fluid dynamic. So, if it is for adjusting and overcoming this situation then it can be really boost performance but i'm not quite sure. Some engineers should explain us.

Do I understand correctly that this is flexible setting process, so different time advance or retard settings could be applied to inlet camshaft in that way ? Or this is rather simpler process, so You can get only 3 seeings: normal potion, advance position or retard position?
