EG-1 maybe the OG for precision and fast cleanable back then. But many single dose grinders have caught up or even exceed in capabilities. Eg. WPM-ZP1, even faster to reach the burrs for cleaning without effecting grind setting. And it only cost fraction of the price of EG-1. I would buy 2 ZP-1 and equip both with SSP burrs for filter and espresso. And save the rest of the money for holiday.
Personally, I don't end up throwing away beans - my doser on the Mazzer Mini I have set to be a second or two underweight. As such, I always do a weigh and add in small incremental steps until I hit target weight. Occasionally I might go over by a couple/few tenths of a gram - so in the past month I would estimate I threw away maybe a gram in total. This isn't a consideration for me. I do appreciate the look and build quality this machine seems to have, I just don't think I can justify it on a 3 shot per day output use case.
Great grinder if you get a copy that went through a proper QC before shipping. In my case it's perfect and I love it. Also got many ppl to buy one, but the last three who ordered it because they saw it at my place, got terrible grinders, with alignment issues and other odd things. Their support was pretty dismissive, they always assumed that it was the users fault. It took ppl months to get them to change their machines. I think that they gotta work on this one. It's a terrible experience to pay so much money and get a non-functional device and on top of that the support thinks you're an idiot....
Imo the EG-1 is absurdly overpriced at $8k AUD for what it delivers. The market has much better value options now. To give some perspective, you could get an EK43S OR p100/ Lagom 01 with 98 SSP brew/Mizen AND almost have enough to buy a WUG2 on top! Or just get an 078 for filter and a p64 with a more blendy spro burr. Save yourself ~$4k AUD and replicate ULF + Core, maintaining excellent workflow.
No but Baratza Sette 270wi did 7 years ago when it was launched by tare weighing into the group head within 0.1g and about the same amount retention wise from a hopper not single dosing. I've owned one for over 5 years and I couldn't believe what this dude was saying about the wastage. I also saved myself $6000 apparently and I'd blind challenge the palate sensitivity of 98% of anyone watching this to tell the difference....
How true is it that the EG-1 still uses plastic zip ties as an augur ? To slow the bean feeding into the burrs ? I really love this machine but can’t get over that fact.
Few poor comments on here probably from people that don’t own an EG-1. Always the case though. The zip ties. What’s the issue? And secondly the retention is 0.1-2 of a gram. And that’s with me failing in for pour over and espresso. 8/10 times I get exactly out what I put in. So your bellow practice is absolutely useless on this grinder. And I know that because the flow pathway of air would nearly touch the burrs. So you are talking ‘utter pish!”
Great and precise machine; no way it would justify the price. What you need is good coffee beans !!!
The best grinder for home usage

What about a Titus DRM?
Yes you're right. But Frank has only made 80units I think so I didn't include it yet.

Yeh that's really poor. Unacceptable at any price but especially at the top end. 😓
Ooooo the only single dose out there justifies 65000 😂😂😂
If one were to buy this, they would also need to prepare their divorce lol.

Bro lifted James Hoffmans thumbnail.
How has he solved the throwing coffee away with a spoon problem? 😅
By weighing the beans and retaining almost no coffee in the grinder
@@paul--bwell he was talking about cafes. I don’t see anyone single dosing each espresso in a busy cafe
True! I actually didn't pick up on that! 😅👌

Weber Workshops make great products but priced at those people with more money than sense.
