@@JrocksAndDevinity and the reason I always hated the ocean! Sad, I know. I first saw this as a kid on VHS when I was around 10-ish...so around 1980 or so. To this day, I cannot even swim in a pool without visualizing a giant shark in there with me at least once. lol
The reporter from the beach was the "Jaws" author Peter Benchley. He later regretted demonizing sharks and engaged himself in preservation of marine wildlife.
Quint's story about the Indianapolis is true. There's question about how many the sharks killed and how many died from exposure, dehydration, etc, and the sharks just scavanged. The true story was just coming out (it had been classified since it happened) when the movie came out. Quint's monolog was the first a lot.of people heard about it.
JAWS came out way before Shark Week and for a lot of movie goers they were surprised to know that Great Whites could grow up to 20' long. Following the movie I used to take people out in my dads fishing boat who'd pay me to see a large Great White. A few times I found the same 17' female Great White off of San Clemente island and while she wasn't as big as 25' long "Bruce" in the movie her size still impressed my clients / charter.
You guys have a great reaction channel going! Keep the content coming our way. I love how you guys fully respect these movies and get why we love these classics so much. You seem to get it!
Thanks so much! We love great films, and none of the recommendations have disappointed yet! Jaws was Fantastic! The way in which the filmed relied on the music to build the fear as opposed to just a lot of gore that you see more often nowadays was hyst plain brilliant 👏
This is considered the first summer blockbuster. People wouldn’t go in the ocean for a very long time after it came out. Quint was obsessed. His character is pretty much based on Captain Ahab from Moby Dick. The speech about the Indianapolis is true. This movie was very hard to make with a bunch of production issues. The comparing of scars has been used in some form in quite a few movies, most notably in Lethal Weapon three. Also some form of you’re gonna need a bigger boat has been recycled. A couple of movies you should watch are Tremors. It’s kind of like Jaws on land with definite homages to it. Also Stakeout which has Richard Dreyfus and Emilio Estevez which has a line that’s a direct quote from this, but most people don’t truly get it and it was an ad lib. A really cool movie with Roy Scheider is Marathon Man with Dustin Hoffman. He’s also in Blue Thunder which is a cool police helicopter movie.
It's a watered down version of the book where the Mayor had a lot more pressures on him than just summer dollars in the movie. Though the movie was far superior to the book!
This has been my favorite movie of all time for 3 decades now. Currently age 41. Seen it well over 50 times. Flawless film. Also the best monolgue scene in cinema with Quints U.S.S. indianapolis story. Barely eeking out over the opening scene in Inglorious Basterds.
the twilight zone movie was one of my favorites, and still is.. very few reactors have done it so far.. its top notch, 4 directors, 4 short stories.. a mix of horror and feel good.. thats my suggestion
The mechanical shark kept breaking down so they had to use other ways to imply the shark was around, really created the less is more notion. Your mind creates more a sense of fear than seeing the actual shark. Hence also in alien how you never really saw the alien u til the end, but you felt its presence
The first half of the film was made more or less on schedule. No plans to show the shark during the first half of the film. The shark was intentionally hidden by design. It was when filming moved out to sea for the Orca based scenes where it all went wrong and the shark kept breaking down. Spielberg was already a suspense director, as Duel and Something Evil shows.
Did you guys make that edit on purpose at 2:14?? That was hilarious! It looked like that guy rolled right into the ocean! I burst out laughing and rewatched it like 6 times. Now that I've time-coded it, I'm going to rewatch it 6 more!
Great reaction guys ... My personal favorite movie of all time.. I actually saw it at the theater in '75 at 12.. living in So Cal near the beach😊. It's based on a novel by Peter Benchley who co-wrote the screenplay with the man who played the newspaper publisher. Spielberg made some big changes though (Mrs Brody had an affair with Hooper, the reason the mayor was adamant about keeping the beach open was he was indebted to the mob, they came back every night when they were out looking for the shark....) Benchley was very upset especially the last half hour. So much so Speilberg asked him to leave the set. When Quint initially gave his speech about the "Bomb" he was (as usual)drunk but SS felt that was the best they were going to get. The next day when he sobered up he asked SS for another try. That's what we got in the movie. 😊
Enjoyed your reaction. Not sure if you’re interested in thrillers but there’s one called The Hand That Rocks the Cradle from the nineties that you may want to check out. Not horror but definitely suspenseful and lots of fun.
My parents were divorced and my father thought it would be a good idea to take my brother and I to see this movie in the theatre. Oh did I mention I was 7 years old? Yeah enough said. 😂
Whiplash is a MUST watch top 10 movie of all time imo. Will warrant interesting reactions during a first time view. Is a different type of genre/plot to what you have been doing on the channel as well.
Recommend a horror movie that start you off a little easier? OK, watch "Summer Of Fear" (Wes Craven, Linda Blair, 1978) then after that you'll be ready for "Amityville II: The Possession" (1982).
to me , really a retell of the old novel / flick ' Moby Dick'. I've read the actor wrote about half of the ' WW2 ' monologue - he wrote a couple novels. lots of excel movies in the 1970's. say from. ' butch Cassidy in '69. to ' Alien in '79. in between , the sting , Godfather . Cuckoos Nest etc etc

"psycho" is a horror film. now that's out of the way, people will cry over my correct classification of movies, on with the show!
@@lyndoncmp5751 ... my point is "jaws" isn't a horror film at all. its not a suspense movie or a thriller. its an action/adventure film. the whole film is about one BIG adventure - tracking and killing a big, man-eating shark is THE adventure. today almost every video and film on yt is classified as a "HORROR" film. all i'm doing is setting the record straight. correcting people's miconceptions about movie genres.
@cjmacq-vg8um Disagree. The second half is an ocean going action adventure yes but the first half is not. The first half is suspense thriller for sure. Jaws is like two different films in each half. The film was marketed as "super thriller", and the VHS cover from the 1980s describes it as "unbearable suspense". The DVD cover refers to it as "enduring action suspense" and the Blu Ray cover says both "edge of your seat suspense" and "gripping action adventure". Saying Jaws isn't a suspense thriller on top of action adventure is as wrong as calling it a horror film. Jaws is both suspense thriller and action adventure, with some horror elements. It's multi genre.

The music&yellow barrels were used as anticipation of the shark being close because the shark was mechanical, and it was not working a lot of the time🦈

Just a little trivia for you, the reporter on the beach was a CAMEO by Peter Benchley the author of JAWS.
So basically Hooper dropped the tooth, dropped the spear and hid in the seaweed when things got hot
"My God" was such a reaction to the Gardner's head.
