I'm not sure if you picked up on it but bottle caps are used as the main currency in the Fallout universe. The technology to manufacture bottle caps and paint their surfaces had been mostly lost in the Great War, which limited any counterfeiting efforts. Anytime a character in the show uses a drug, it's an actual aid or drug item used in the game. (like Stimpaks that heals health) Vault 33's water chip breaking is a reference to the very first Fallout game. Vault 13's water chip breaks and the player has 144 days to find a replacement.
A lot of the foods appear in the gametoo. Blamco Mac and Cheese, Cram, YumYum Devilled Eggs, Sugar Bombs - all pre-War foods that appear in the Fallout Games.
There was even more to using bottle caps as currency at first. The currency of caps was backed by the water-merchants of The Hub, who controlled the largest supply of water in California. Each bottle cap could be exchanged for, and thus represented the value of, one bottle of water. But over time, it seems to have become a fiat money.
The Ghoul’s rule of “don’t get sidetracked” is hilarious because it literally goes against everything that makes the Fallout games great. Getting lost in so many side quests that by the time you get back to the main story, you’re OP a hell! 🤣🤣 Love your outfit in this reaction 🔥
Just catching up on the episodes…the “Vault-Tec guy” is called a Pipboy, or Mr. Pipboy, same as the thing Lucy and the other vault dwellers wear on their wrists.
Alot of the creatures in Fallout are just mutated animals, but some of them have names taken out of folklore or mythology. Gulpers in folklore were lizard men that would jump out of the water and swallow children whole if they got too close to deep water. I thought it was just a UK folktale but essentially it's supposed to be a warning for children to stay away from dangerous water where they might drown.
I like the contrast with last episode. Titus runs away yelling "fuck fuck fuck", where maximus runs towards his squire to help yelling "fuck fuck fuck". I think he does want to do teh right thing. He did bully Thadeus back a bit at the beginning "clean the crotch palte, climb a tree for an apple, etc), but after he asks him what he thought of Maximus and found out the bullying wasn't personal and was part of a cycle, he started treating him better.
God! I haven’t heard anybody make an Aaahh! Real Monsters reference in ages! That’s a deep cut and a half, Jess! Thanks for the real good laugh that came from said reference!
Norm was never billed as one of the central characters, but it was pleasantly surprising how much his story becomes more interesting than perhaps intended. Already looking forward to finding out what happens to him in season 2.
I believe he is listed in the credits for every episode in which his, um, likeness is used. I assume that means he gets paid for the use of his, um, likeness.
@@AretaicGames lol how far does the skull have to decompose to stop qualifying, or is even the sheer implication of relationship enough for likeness rights? Even more funny is the idea that in the real, lawyers may have had this conversation quite seriously!
Normally an actor would get paid a certain amount for appearing in a motion picture, but paid quite a bit more if they have a speaking part. This disembodied head does not speak, so I imagine he didn't get a cent for having a prop that looks vaguely like him in the show. But you never know what he had in his contract.
The show was typically promoted as having three stars (Lucy, Cooper, Maximus), but it actually has four. Norm is off doing his own story, but he's just as significant.
Pretty sure you get paid for use of your likeness! From here on out this show gets better on balance the further it goes on. I wasn't too sure it was going to really "feel" like Fallout until after this episode, mostly through withholding judgement. Norm's almost certain to be the most intelligent person in any room he's in. Give him the daily grind and he's bored and uninspired. Give him a puzzle he doesn't know the solution to and he's a completely different guy. Perception off the charts too. Clearly sacrificing strength and endurance in the bargain.
Fun reaction love your laugh. The creature is called a Gulper, because it just swallows things. Love Norm he is great. The Ghoul pored out his water because it was irradiated and best Lucy not drink it. IMO Does this suit block radiation "absolutely" NOT.
to be fair she did stop another project to rush his job, so she def earned the extra lol if it was me tho i would have robbed her then used her own caps to pay for the repairs haha always liked the golden rule, only as i saw the lesson "do unto others that HAS BEEN done unto you" the whole concept of the original means that you do what you want done to you, meaning those who do evil upon you must want evil done unto them, so i have no issues obliging their request lol i like how this show works as a backstory and lore drop for the "vault boy", i wonder if they will ever reveal the "vault gurl" maybe thats coming in season 2 or 3 haha

@@ShantallK1 it's not dont get sidetracked, he said you will get s8detracked, which is true
OP as hell, but forget what you need to do or how to do it!
Definitely a line for the gamers 😂
I love Norm in this. Such a quiet, understated character. Yet he has a keen perception and a ruthless streak. There's an iron will hidden in there.
7:43 this is why I love her reactions.
Walton Goggins was ROBBED of his Emmy for this role 😡
Yeah he was robbed but Hiroyuki Sanada deserved the win equally as much for his role as Lord Toranaga in Shōgun
Just catching up on the episodes…the “Vault-Tec guy” is called a Pipboy, or Mr. Pipboy, same as the thing Lucy and the other vault dwellers wear on their wrists.

Fallout 1 reference, love it!
Especially the ending cinematic of that game, the vastness of the wasteland and the main character all alone.
16:24 I feel good. I knew that I would now

All the named foods in the series (Cram, Yum Yum Deviled Eggs, etc) are directly from the games. IIRC, the deviled eggs are freeze dried.
Fun fact. Most of the props were made on 3d printers from the models in Fallout 3 and 4.

I'm assuming that It was a typo but it was Titus that ran away not Thadeus.
@@GrumpyOldGit-zk1kw yes, that's what I meant, corrected
Maximus has mastered the ancient art of getting his ass kicked.
Lucky he's a high-endurance character build.

Ahhh! Real Monsters reference? I knew I liked this girl!
Lucy is a main character, but i really that that Cooper is THE main character.
Yes, he gets paid for the use of his likeness.
The moment with the water chip is a reference to the plot of the first Fallout game!

lol, “There goes Michael Emerson’s paycheck!” A better set up joke you could not have scripted.
I really did like his character though. Really wish he’d lasted more than an episode?

The amount of effort you make to dress for the show you're watching is unparalleled!

Usage of likeness probably does get something, but you're right that it won't be close to the same compensation.
The show was typically promoted as having three stars (Lucy, Cooper, Maximus), but it actually has four. Norm is off doing his own story, but he's just as significant.
I agree. Norm was definitely the unsung fourth protagonist.
Even though I loved the main story, I kept wanting to get back to Norm. His story captivated me.
*Watch the outro!* ;) always watch the outros but especially in this one :)

New hair, new shirt.
I am sure Mr. Emerson's agent is on the case about using his "image". After all, he gets pay a % too.
I find the inside of the Gulper's mouth very upsetting
hahaha.. 26:24 that ikea bag looks about on par with the jacket they tried to sell with Fallout 76..
Emerson doesn't get paid for his head, but he does get partial credit for the role. Hehe . . .
Team Lavender here as well. I make a mean lavender ice cream.
Jess, you don't have to react to it, but you should definitely watch Evil on your own time, it also has Michael Emerson, he's so great in that!
Always watch the credits, it fills in some potential blanks

7:03 Yups.... pretty much a lot of Maximus's story can be summed up by two things: 1) getting hit in the face, and 2) toilet commodes 😂😂
Gulper.
They swallow things whole when they eat them. Including people.
