Moldaver: "Everyone knows who I am." Everyone in every reaction video: "I don't." (No shade: I thought exactly the same thing when I first watched this episode.)
Norm is the unsung 4th main character, as much as I enjoy Lucy, Max, and the Ghoul I seriously relate to him. A smart, imaginative young person, whose world never changes. The same faces, the same hallways and rooms. How could you not be "unmotivated" by every job you've every had? We all like to tell each other to go touch grass, how about people how have never seen the sun?
What an absolutely chilling opening scene, gives me goosebumps. This might be the best videogame adaptation in terms of perfectly replicating the tone & spirit. Creating a new story in the world rather than trying to adapt the games was absolutely the right way to go.
Okey dokey! - Fallout is one of the very best video game adaptations of all time. Ella Purnell (also Jinx in Arcane) is phenomenal, as is Walton Goggins
Obviously its not the same dog from FO3 or FO4 all of which take place on the U.S. East Coast and 15 years earlier than the TV show. We will eventually learn about the TV dog's West Coast origins and original name. My own Dogmeat in FO3 was sadly killed by Fire Ants. So it was nice to later see in FO4 that any injuries he inevitably gets can be fully recoverable. This TV episode did not name the Dog, "Dogmeat". And if you think about it, its not an endearing name. Rather its a nickname that suggests imminent death (recall the scene in "Aliens" where Private Hudson called Carter Burke "Dogmeat". In this case, its a name that implies future food for the master in a world where there are scarce options for food. Too bad the games don't actually allow you to choose the dog's name (unless possibly with some 3rd party Mod). If I could, I would name mine "Oppenheimer".
I don't think there has ever been a show or movie that captured the SPIRIT of a game more than Fallout has. It is absolutely batshit insane and over the top on everything. You're in for a serious rollercoaster with this one. Us fans of the game went in with pretty low expectations and it blew us away at just how accurate to the source material it really is. I think you're REALLY gonna like this one. Side note: Ella Purnell is absolutely AMAZING in this series. She's such an up and coming star. Between this show and Arcane, that girl has already earned her flowers and she's gonna be in the scene for a LONG time.
As more of a fan of the originals, and by extension New Vegas, I went into this show with _seriously_ low expectations. And it is chock full of the kind of dark humor that made the non-Bethesda games so iconic. Even in the first episode, Hank drowns Monty in a pickle barrel. That's amazing. 😂 Between that and Lucy's ever-changing tone of "Okey-dokey!" This show is fantastic. I can't wait for season two.
For some context, vaults 31, 32, and 33 are the only three vaults that are interconnected, all of the other vaults are separate spanning all across the U.S. and some in Canada.
Really glad you are checking out this show, it's fantastic! Fun fact: That gun that shot the baby leg and the silverware and whatnot (junk) is called a Junk Jet. In the game it uses random scrap items in your inventory as ammo.
During the fight after the wedding reception I liked how the film melting on the screens reminded us of the bombsgoing off at the start of the episode.
Definitely one of the best openings of any series with a great induction to our main characters get ready for shock after shock so buckel up your in for a ride.
Always watch the "Outros" ;) Ghouls are Humans with a mutation so when they get hit by lethal radiation they don't die but change, getting a strange healing ability, so they can live for centuries, resistant to drugs, disease etc, but their skin and brains don't heal as well so over long times they get deformed and eventually go crazy and become like hyperkinetic zombies ("feral ghouls" are a real threat) The Fallout world is an alternative Earth, where history and tech went slightly different, better nuke and genetic tech, less electronics The Enclave is the most high tech, mysterious and evil of the postwar factions, main enemies in Fallout #2 and #3
The weapon that fired a doll's leg through a man's chest is called the 'Junk Jet'; as its name implies it uses junk as ammo, gathers it up in a big floating ball at the front and then fires it at great velocities.
I'm very excited you're reacting to Fallout! The year isn't over yet but thus far Fallout has been my favorite tv series this year. If it holds that would make 2 years in a row that my favorite tv series was a video game adaption (something at one point I wouldn't have believed possible).
"I told them you would't hurt a fly." This episode was directed by Jonathan Nolan, the same guy who wrote and directed the first episode of Westworld, and we all know how that turned out.
Such a great show, really looking forward to seeing your reactions to some of the later episodes. Some brilliant character building and plotlines, definitely looking forward to the next season.

Awesome fun reaction. Lucys application is very much a reminder of the games skills selection (Lucy has science, guns and melee skills). The vault population is somewhere between 200 and 1000 people (all vaults are different), so after two hundred years most people are probably your cousins. The series best move was to not try and be "realistic" the needle Lucy uses after the hubby fight is called a stimpac and in game restores your health and that's what it does in the show also. Culty Vibes, well that sums up the Brotherhood of Steel for sure. They are a semi religious group loosely based on medieval orders of knights (like the Templars). Norm was one of my favorite characters by series end. The giant bag Max carries is IMO a nod to the ridiculous inventory you have in the games that you often give to your companions. I would totally suggest watching the end credits they often have fun info in them. Many of your questions will be answered.
I was going to suggest maybe giving a Fallout 4 Let's Play series a try after you finish reacting to this first season of the TV show. Quite a few people just like experiencing the story and characters of the Fallout games. No spoilers but I think you'd really enjoy the main story of Fallout 4. You can set the game difficulty to very easy and you won't have to worry about the game's combat. You don't have to be a pro gamer or anything like that to enjoy the Fallout universe.
I'd suggest one of Gopher's Let's Plays as he tends to get into character and isn't constantly chatting away to a live audience. Although if that's your thing, he has a separate Live channel for things like that.
the bethesda games really don't have much emphasis on story. without the combat and the incentive to explore, there's just not much there imo. new vegas is probably is one of the best written video games ever (not that there's substantial competition) but any game that soft-requires you to follow a modding guide to clean it of bugs is inherently inaccessible. the old games, as much as i adore them, are archaic. so it goes.
Along with Supernatural and the Witcher, this is a show that I decided to start watching just because you're reacting to it. So excited! :) Just hearing you say words like "ghoul" makes the Fallout fan in me very happy.
As a Fallout fanboy (both the games and the show), I love that you’re watching this! The game series has taken place in a few areas of the country: Fallout 1&2 took place in California (as does this series), Fallout 3 was in Washington, D.C., Fallout 4 was in my area of Boston. Between Fallout 3 & 4, you had New Vegas…you can guess where that took place. Then about 6 years ago you had a MMO version called Fallout 76 which was in West Virginia. All the games take place at different time periods after the bombs dropped. The factions are interesting in that all of them claim to want to save humanity, but all of them are corrupt beyond anything and don’t do a thing to truly save it or restore anything. The Enclave is the government faction. The Brotherhood of Steel is the major military faction. The Vaults are big science/social experiments with the people as the lab rats. The Institute is the true science & technology faction (only really found around Boston). The raiders are the criminal faction who don’t care about society coming back and are like the anarchists of Fallout (this is slightly different in the show, which you’ll see, but I think it’s more a means to an end…you’ll find out). Then you have everyone else just trying to survive out in the wasteland. On top of that you have mutated beasts that are scary as fuck, and other smaller factions all over. The show is an interesting adaptation of the games and they did a good job with it overall. Really looking forward to season 2!!
I think this is the most fun I've seen you have in a reaction in awhile (and that's not a criticism of your other reactions...!) I loved this premiere, that opening scene is terrifying if you know what's coming OR if you don't, and I feel like this show is serious about not taking itself too seriously. It just has its own really well defined style and that uncanny valley feeling of a world 200 years downwind of a nuclear apocalypse. It has actual humour, not just scripted jokes that fail to land, and the character acting of the main cast is superb, everyone is completely believable. I didn't know you were reacting to this until the UA-cam notification popped up and I'm so looking forward to the rest of the season 👍
Well this was a fun reaction to stumble across. If the post-apocalyptic genre is a favorite of yours, then I'm sure you're going to love the world of Fallout. As you can probably already tell just from the first episode, Fallout has this unique mixture of dark comedy and dark morality. Subscribed and can’t wait to see your reactions and hear more of your thoughts as you progress through the season. Keep slaying! 💛💥
I am so excited that you are going to watch this great show. You are a delight. I enjoy your reactions. Soooo have fun, enjoy and get ready for an experienced. Stay well.
Glad you're reacting to Fallout Jess. I really enjoyed it when I watched and I had no idea about the game at all. I think you're going to love it. I did 😊
Jess - I can remember when I was growing up in Kansas City that someone released an outdated map of Soviet missile targeting data with the number of nuclear warheads that were targeted at specific areas of the country. Larger cities and populated areas had multiple weapons targeted, as did important logistical locations. A population center like LA would have had many missiles targeting it. Kansas City, as a logistics and transportation hub, had something like 10-15 target areas. I’m sure the makers of Fallout saw that, too.
The show fits the tone of the game perfectly with Fallout 4 and 5, even Tim Caine, who was a developer on fall out 1,2, (and had hands in mostly with New Vegas) loves the show and charisma, so to speak. Its an excellent distillation of vibe
The cut to Moldaver on this part of Hank's speech: "We don't know much about what's up there: desperation, lawlessness..." That little expression change on her face sure hits different on second watch. Man, what a great series with great direction.
Walton Goggins was fantastic in The Hateful Eight and Django Unchained Super hilarious to see him do this role after after rewatching those two movies 😂😂
I'm so glad you're reacting to this! imo it's the best TV adaptation of a video game since _Arcane_ (I guess the secret ingredient is Ella Purnell. She's amazing!) I've played all five main-series Fallout games, and I can safely say, they _nailed_ the tone of the series: vibrant, over-the-top characters and goofy humor, juxtaposed against gruesome violence and some pretty dark subject matter. This show _feels_ like Fallout, through and through.
Thank you for going the long way around, I’ve seen too many that have been edited down to twenty minutes or less. I hope you can release ep2 very soon.
Fallout fan for 27 years. The worldbuilding was so tight and authentic that I was able to spot the raiders by their table manners and tattoos (those were probably Khans, as this is near their territory and they're known to do mercenary work). That was the moment I knew this show was going to be golden.
oh HELL yeah!!! I cannot WAIT to get into it, commenting before even clicking play :) also I love your spn reactions but haven’t had chance to comment (jumping around btw s4 and s8). Can’t wait until you get to s12!
Fans of a thing are always the most critical and for the fans of the Fallout games to be singing the praises of this series show how much they knocked it out of the park. Like Nolan, I lost hours of my life to Fallout 3 and the immersive world Bethesda created. It’s truly not like anything else. I still play it to this day and have sunk 1000’s of real-world hours into the game.
I love how the stim packs heal her to full health like the game, there are a lot of game mechanics they throw in without any explanation and I love it.
Already watched Rob & Trin react to this, but I just realized something. Can you imagine how bloody long it would take to draw those wanted posters at 23:51 with the slow instructions you have to use just to draw dots or short dashes.
Great show! Still really hope you'll react to The Expanse, and The Last Kingdom, and Ozark! I know you'll especially love Last Kingdom because you loved Vikings!
In the Fallout: London mod, there's a canine companion named Churchill. At this point every British person reading this says "Oh yes" in the same tone of voice as the dog in the advert for the insurance company of that name which inspired the dog.
What i love about stephanie (the fork in the eye) is that she loved bert so much. Even if it was an arranged marriage. Not everyone in an arranged marriage likes their spouse. But she actually did like him, even if she thought monty was hot (that look bert gave her was funny though)
Loved your reaction to your first episode of the show, but I thought you mite love to know the the actress who plays Lucy is also the voice actress who does Jinx in Arcane.
You know it's bad when the weatherman is having an existential crisis.
that scene always reminded me of an old skit by George Carlin called "The Hippie Dippy Weatherman."
Forecast: hot, very very hot.
Moldaver: "Everyone knows who I am."
Everyone in every reaction video: "I don't."
(No shade: I thought exactly the same thing when I first watched this episode.)
I was impressed with how the little girl acted at the start too! She came off as genuinely scared when the bomb dropped
She was great. And also a really cute little girl whose hair you just want to tussle.

The young actress playing Janey really gave the scene much of it's impact. "Is it your thumb, or mine?"
@@AretaicGames Agreed. Goggins's reaction was great, but she sold the scene.
The first time saw that opening I started crying, felt like she was my daughter 😩
@@jenny_lee_87 I watch a lot of Fallout reactions, and that line nails me every time.
It really only works if the games themselves have new main characters (and a time skip of at least 10 years) every single game.
Okey dokey! - Fallout is one of the very best video game adaptations of all time. Ella Purnell (also Jinx in Arcane) is phenomenal, as is Walton Goggins
She also actually wants to know what the source material is. I respect her a lot for it.
Fair is Fair. The guy playing Maximus is good too.
FYI, Honcho, the guy who dug up the Ghoul was Bubba in Forest Gump.
OMG! No wonder he looked familiar!!
Also played Elston Limehouse in Justified alongside Walton Goggins. There are also two other Justified alums in the series.
Goggins actually recommended him for the part.
I'm not convinced he's dead. I hope we see him again and he's running a Mirelurk restaurant. 😅
Don’t worry Dogmeat has plot armour 😂
She gets reborn in every game, so even old age doesn’t stop that dog.
Have you even played Fallout 1? 😄
@@ObsceneVegetableMatter damn the Master!
Dogmeat lasts about 4 minutes in Fallout 3

@@SwiftJustice Not with the Broken Steel DLC! A bug they didn't patch gave him like 10,000 hp so he's functionally immortal unless you really try it.
I was also not that familiar with Fallout prior to watching this series. Trust the process and enjoy the journey, you won't regret it

The injector she used is called a Stimpak, which is one of the best things to heal with in the games and does indeed magically heal like that.
The sense of dread and impending doom in that opening scene was unbelievable. It was almost a relief when the first bomb dropped.

"Culty vibes" is unfortunately VERY accurate depending on which region of the BoS you're dealing with lol

I always love you when you get surprised by who is in the cast of an awesome show. 😁 *KYLE MACLACHLAN!*
This was one of the most entertaining and enjoyable reaction I have seen. Looking forward to the next one. 👍
Oh okay, okey dokey.
I was hoping you'd watch this one. Thank you.
I am SO here for your this journey. This show is so great.
I was walking along minding my business when out of an Orange Colored Sky.......
not the curtains!
Don't fool yourself. Norm is the main character.
I'm looking forward to watching you react to this series, it only gets Better 👍
Already watched Rob & Trin react to this, but I just realized something. Can you imagine how bloody long it would take to draw those wanted posters at 23:51 with the slow instructions you have to use just to draw dots or short dashes.
turned into a ghoul through radiation or something, thats actually exactly right
Great show! Still really hope you'll react to The Expanse, and The Last Kingdom, and Ozark! I know you'll especially love Last Kingdom because you loved Vikings!
If you know Fallout, you know there's always a dog.
In the Fallout: London mod, there's a canine companion named Churchill.
At this point every British person reading this says "Oh yes" in the same tone of voice as the dog in the advert for the insurance company of that name which inspired the dog.
You're going to love this show. It's great.
This series gave everyone the Bloody Mess perk
I'll stick around with you on this one. Heck yeah! Fallout!
Fallout is the great show and my favorite
Never played the game. I'm obsessed now
I recommend Lucifer
The guy killed with the baby doll leg was shot by a Junk Jet, which is a fun that fires garbage.
Been waiting for this, let’s go!! 😤🔥💯
Best game to tv show adaption ive ever seen. Great actors and a great opening episode.
What i love about stephanie (the fork in the eye) is that she loved bert so much. Even if it was an arranged marriage. Not everyone in an arranged marriage likes their spouse. But she actually did like him, even if she thought monty was hot (that look bert gave her was funny though)
They do not hunt the dog. The dog is one way of identifying the target.
I could have sworn you had seen this. Nevertheless, welcome to the vault... hoo boy. LOL
Okey dokey! Lets do this. My favorite show from this year. Humorous, great story and fabulous characters.
Loved your reaction to your first episode of the show, but I thought you mite love to know the the actress who plays Lucy is also the voice actress who does Jinx in Arcane.
