Vegas's primary goal is to detach tourists from their money.
To bad it's no longer about the experience. The money would follow.
Of course, they are in business and shareholders expect increasing profits. With that said I have dumped my casino stocks for now as consumers are getting squeezed financially. Even Starbucks had a terrible quarter as people are running out of money for high end brands. There will be a time to go back into Casino stocks, it just isn't now

Those trays were around $12 in Tucson grocery stores. That is way too expensive for that dish.

1:26 My local Kroger concern supermarket sells a similar sushi product in virtually the same packaging. They make it by hand fresh in store. You can physically see them doing it. $9.99 USD. If you throw a third row of sushi in a larger box on there it's $14.99.
Yes, you got ripped off. Ripping people off is the standard for the strip now. Which is why I'm embracing my local tribal casinos. $7 for a cheeseburger and 9/6 double bonus poker. All within a 40 minute drive across several casinos.

The high prices that are being charged in las vegas (food at restaurants, parking, resort fees, high room rates, 6-5 blackjack, triple zero roulette, decrease in comps) is actually a result of what is being taught in business schools at universities. The strategy is to keep raising prices until you see that revenues are decreasing. This can be analyzed over a bunch of different segments such as parking, restaurants, hotels, gambling. Once the point that revenues start decreasing then the casinos will decrase prices in that segment. A change will be made in prices and then the next quarter revenue will be analyzed. If revenues in that segment go up (adjusting for seasonal factors and weather) then you have found the optimal price. Caesars recently had a weak quarter and will likely lower some prices in Vegas across certain segments. Luckily, for me, i play in Atlantic City and the optimal prices are very low because the eastern us gamblers do not have the money of Vegas gamblers. I just got back from Atlantic City and Caesars AC was charging less than $100 all in per night (including resort fees, room rate and taxes) to anybody not just gamblers with a Caesar rewards history.
a lot of these increases were brought about because of Lost revenue due to Indian Casinos that seem to be everywhere in California...!!!
The added competition from Indian casinos, other casinos as well as online casinos and online sports betting are all taking a toll on traditional casinos. Vegas seems to be doing ok, but Atlantic City is hurting and the casinos there are trying hard for customers.

Rent around the strip is expensive. They need to make it up somehow. Plus, you can go next door and win your money back, but you have to walk out the door if you gamble and win. They always move the doors once you get inside.
so why did you have to buy the $23 sushi? here in my brooklyn neighborhood, there is a local favorite all your can eat sushi joint for $20/person

I just visited Japan and the convenience store sushi was $6.50 (¥1000) and had probably 3-4 more pieces and more expensive stuff like salmon egg (ikura) and yellowtail (hamachi).

High prices in (today’s) Vegas? I’m shocked, shocked….but in their defense, that cafe is basically a convenience store for guests at Vdara…you can pay those prices, or leave the building for slightly cheaper food.

You are exactly right. It is the strip. There are still many reasonable eating places in Vegas just NOT on that part of LV Blvd.......one exception is Tacos el Gordo.
For the strip $23 for a lunch is not bad if you got twice as much. Locals stay off the strip unless entertaining visitors

If you live in Vegas, you should go to the local grocery store that has a deli and buy ready to eat food from there unless your food is free at the hotels. Which may be problematic if your comps disappear. $7 for Green Tea?!? Yikes!

so if you went and saw a sign that said HOTDOG $2, you hand over the $2 and the hotdog was 1 inch long, YOU GOT RIPPED OFF.... then someone will be like, did you read the sign? you got exactly what you were getting....
