@murjax-- I think Amtrak did offer that type of service at one point or another during their early years of operation, and then again off and on since then.
they offered the Desert Wind from Los Angeles to Salt Lake City and had two through cars that were transferred to the California Zephyr to continue on to Chicago. The service was discontinued in 1997 with Amtrak cutting back services on their long-distance routes.

It's crazy I bought a Lionel polar express on amazon for just about 270.00 to 254.00 and I love it Lionel does a great job if you are considering buying a Lionel big boy eBay is just about the only place you can buy them but you would have to pay a couple grand just to get one of course the only way to do so is to use a gift card for it if eBay even has them
