Red Dead Online has evolved and changed greatly over its 3+ years of existence, and so, I feel it's time to revisit my Role Guide videos, and revise them for the year 2022. First up is the Bounty Hunter role!
While my original Bounty Hunter Simple Guide video is still mostly accurate for anyone looking to get started as a Bounty Hunter, the game has also changed quite a bit since then. With all the various tweaks to the game’s balancing over the years, and new content additions, the time is now to revisit the role and see how the progression has changed. Indeed, I’ve started a brand new character, and worked my way up to max rank once again to experience all the changes first hand.
So today, we’ll be taking a closer look at the Bounty Hunter Role: How exactly does it work, and what are the positives and negatives of this role compared to all the others? Then, I'll provide some helpful Tips to anyone looking to make their way through the role: The items you should, and should not, be buying while leveling up through the mode, how payouts work, the fastest ways to gain Role XP and Gold, whether or not the Prestigious Bounty Hunter License is worth buying, and ultimately, the best way to hit maximum rank 20 as quickly as possible!
Well, technically... that would be rank 30 now? I guess?
Like I said, the role has definitely changed since that original video, so of course I’ll take all those changes into consideration here as well, and provide a new, optimal way through the role, for all you newer players jumping into the game for the first time!

A good tip for the bounty wagon is to wait and call it at the end. For each bounty, in multiple bounty target missions, you want to knock them out before you hogtie them so they don’t get loose. Once you have all targets knocked out, hogtied, and next to each other, THEN call the wagon in to stow them all at the same time. 😎🍻
This is the perfect method.
I wonder if anyone else have their wagons glitched. Sometimes for me it takes up to 5 minutes before my wagon is there.
@@Dex_Zuid bro easy fix right here just make sure to press the flee option on your horse before you call your wagon because it’ll glitch and take long if you don’t do it.

So, you CAN knock them out while they are tied up, ensure your on the Barehand choice on your weapon wheel, and from a distance (just outside the Untie option) hit O. You will kick them, women go under with one kick to the head, men sometimes take up to three. It will give you a knocked out +5xp, and a Ruthless +10Xp.
This only works if they're near a road though. Otherwise, you have to go retieve the bounty wagon from the road and risk more enemies showing up. What I do is only call out my bounty wagon when I choose a multiple bounty mission and then drive it there so that I don't have to worry about not having roads near where i need the wagon. The wagon also makes for good cover when arriving at an open area. This method also prevents the issue of the wagon taking forever to load in when you're on a deadline.

A stupidly easy way to cheese Etta Doyle is by camping in the little mineshaft dug into the warehouse in front of you when you spawn in, and right next to where she always spawns before fleeing. None of her cronies ever go near it, so it's completely foolproof.
Once she starts fleeing, just run out, tackle her and tie her up. Although probably a glitch, her gang is too busy running with their tails between their legs to even shoot at you. Then, just ride your horse down the street to the prison, with Etta in tow. Easy as pie, you don't even need to fire a shot.
Thanks man, I just started playing RDO a couple weeks ago after hundreds of hours in story mode. Still having a hard time getting used to the aiming differences, but at least I know how to get gold efficiently so I can get the other roles.

Keep grinding bounties i made over 100k cash not on gold just from bounty hunter role alone maybe I need to recheck again been grinding two weeks sense I came back to the game 👍🏻
I have played 700+ hours in story mode and have 100 percent completed 2 play throughs and I started online a week ago and the movement feels weird the way you kinda run while aiming down sights is so weird for me

I never noticed it when looking at the math before, but it looks like the most efficient time to cash in a bounty is at the 12-minute mark. From 0 to 12 minutes, the gold payout is 0.08 gold bars per 3 minutes, but after 12 minutes, the payout rate decreases to 0.04 gold bars per 3 minutes, and after the 15 minutes, the payout further decreases to 0.04 gold bars every 5 minutes. So, it is optimal to cash in a bounty after 12 minutes and start a new bounty to maintain the highest rate of gold bars per minute.
Excellent bounty hunter guide. I only have 1 dissenting opinion - for brand new players, I would recommend starting with the Collector role instead of BH. Cash earned from collector is MAGNITUDES greater than cash generated from bounties. For gold, there's plenty of other stuff - daily challenges, random/stranger missions, treasure maps, and of course blood money.
100% agree, i wasted my first bit of gold on the BH role and found out i hated the grind- especially when stranger missions pay about the same. my second role was the trader, which was slightly better. when i purchased the collector as my third role i was pretty mad i did not choose it first. i was struggling earning money and xp the whole first 6 weeks i played this game- but after getting the collector role i had a much easier time with steady cash and XP- and gold from dailies as well.
That's what I always recommend...stranger missions pay the same amount of gold...
Collector is just so boring when I tried to do it I stopped playing for well over a year and kept the game off my hard drive

Soloing Cecil tucker on five stars was a grind! Stood up in the tower until his wagon came, killed his guys, picked him up and juiced up myself and the horse and ran for dear life!
This is now the perfect time to fully complete the role. I just recently started back playing and was able to go from role level 14-30 in 2 days. Something is active right now where you get almost 3x everything.

1 Bolas are a must and easy to use.
2 the wagon is a must and call it in after disabling the target/targets.
3 legendary bountys are still easy enough at max stars. Yes they are stronger bla bla bla just focus and don't be a hero take your time you have 30 minutes before you get max pay anyway.

I wondered something though. When I'm on a bounty I noticed other players have watched me before end even helped out (which I appreciated) but can they steal your bounty as well? The person looted his kills on my bounty but that's all he did. I waved thank you and he rode off.
I still am learning a lot. So if you know the answer to that it would be appreciated. 👍
When i see you grab the wolf man so easily i remind when a polar bear spawn right next mine and eat the bounty, damn
i just wanna add, when you capture a bounty using reinforced lasso that doesnt mean that bounty will not be able to escape, the reinforce lasso just makes it much longer for the bounty to escape specially when the bounty is talking or just mocking you, so the best way for the bounty not be able to escape its either you knock him out, in pc you can just throw the tied bounty then get close to him then press the attack or punch button after that the bounty will be knocked and will sleep, as long as the bounty is knocked of course it will never escape, or other way around is you can use the bounty wagon and there is no way for it to escape
how would you know if the bounty is knocked?, there should be a indicator xp point that say knocked out, or you can just point your gun crosshair to the bounty if the small dot turns red that means bounty still alive, if white dot then the bounty is dead
knockout bounty targets after you hogtie them for extra xp and they still count as alive
using bollas with deadeye works very nicely and not missing targets. only donwside is 20ish seconds timeframe to hogtie them or you will lose the bollas
always loot bounty targets and their adds especially if u have collector role

If you don’t want the low hanging gun glitch that occurs when you turn in a bounty at an actual police station make sure to flee your horse then turn the bounty in

I was playing on Xbox and I had over 100 levels and I started playing on pc and now I took a few steps back and I gotta get back to it again but I got the BH role ez after grinding for like almost a week (CTA,FREE ROAM 2xp and money) so ye I need the XP so THANKS! And it’s really good that ur playing after the death cause it’s a really goood for started and “starters”
Regarding the bounty wagon, you can just summon the wagon and your horse will run off. No need to dismiss the horse first. Thanks for the guide it’s coming in handy with the trip xp
You said that the bolas was bad, but in my opinion it is one of the better investments. You can acctually use your dead eye when throwing the bolas.

I suggest you finish 1$ bounty’s as fast as possible to be able to complete legendary bounty’s that give more cash.

if youre going for gold, dead or alive doesnt matter, only the time spent in the bounty does. 12 mins from the 'dong' right after you start the mission will give you .32 gold. Thats the most efficient way to make gold in bounty hunting. Some of the bounty hunter timers in the game don't start until you get close to the target, that's why you get different payouts for different times. Don't wait til the last 30 seconds, always start a timer and complete it as close to 12 mins as possible, always taking it to a town jail so you're right at the next bounty board. 2 12 min bounties pay .64 gold, 1 30 min bounty pays .48 gold.
Do videos for all other roles in 2022 you will help lot of people that starts in 2022

He’s made them maybe not in awhile but still applies in new videos he’s made. He’s shown to just go for tarot cards of pentacles, swords, and cups. You can also go for the wands tarot cards for some extra cash but those first 3 are the best and easiest, they don’t require metal detector or shovel and you will get crazy xp, role xp, and cash!

@@gg-mercenary7104 I've already made like 6k, from doing the card sets, the antiques bottles, and the flowers. And the flowers you can do twice if spawns are there, and that's an additional $622 I believe.
Collector pairs the best with Bounty Hunter, since you’ll loot collectibles from your enemies.

1>knockout ur targets, 2.drop them in a pile using horse, 3.call wagon load up your pile and good to go
I’m only halfway thru your video so maybe you mention it later, but a good way to kill time so you get more XP/$ is to make sure to loot all the dead bodies. Seems obvious but it kills time AND gives you pelts, meds, etc
A tip for etta doyle grinding go into the underground passage wait by the entrance and when you see her teleport wait until she says quick lets go girls or something like that none of her gang members will react to you hogtieing her
Fantastic video and channel!! I can't fathom the work that goes into this! Great job! ON a side note, has Rockstar ever commented on why they payout more for longer periods of time versus completing missions quicker? It is so non-intuitive, it seems they should likely have a valid intentional reason? Maybe something to do with IN GAME HOURS boosting across the game?

Is it just me, or does it seem that all of the One Star Bounties make you murder an entire gang of NPCs to get your Target? I have never seen a one star mission where I just ride up and catch someone with a Lasso and ride away without a fight; I get those with 2 Star Bounty Missions.
On the plus side, I didn't know you could toggle through the Bounties on the Bounty Board. That's a plus for avoiding those Multiple Bounty Missions. Just wish I knew that 2 weeks ago.
Lol I had probably the best possible start I got in on the last day of the boosted bounty stuff I hit rank 19 in one day working with my other 2 buddy's, absolutely love it

I brought the prestigious bounty, in the beginning, thinking it was gonna give me 10 free levels nahhh it was 10 more levels to go through and I didn't know that until I went to his channel and saw that the level cap increased by 10 then I was just there laughing at myself i was like damn
So If I brought the prestige bounty I have too get to level 10 now to get the eye patch because I found it weird that the eye patch says get to rank 20 bounty hunter even tho they maxed it too 10 now ?
I hit rank 30 in about four days bounty hunter role is my favourite and it’s all I do
I played RDR2 day one of its release. The RDO portion was empty and baron by comparison to my multiple LVL 100 and 200+ GTA characters. I just picked RDR2 on Steam a couple weeks ago and have started the main story and RDO all over again as a brand new player. Nice to see the community is still as toxic as ever, but these roles are a lot of fun and I enjoy having something to work on each day. Gives me a reason to log on. This guide answered all of the questions I had, and for that, I thank you. Currently saving for the Collector role, and a few bounties from LVL 5 Bounty Hunter on a LVL 19 character.

Also, just go to horses in the menu, call of your horse and then call in the wagon. No glitches and it’s literally in the same menu (stables).
I am also getting 0.78 Goldbars for every 3star bounty with 30secs left. 1675+ xp everytime. I levelled from bounty hunter lvl 2 to lvl 12 today. Did like 8 bounties, just choose the right ones and bring them in alive.

If it’s anything like the hunter wagon I use my horse kill deer then just summon the wagon and my horse is auto dismissed. Then load up all the deer and head to camp. I would assume the bounty wagon would work the same.
Was waiting down the timer in Armadillo with my bounty stowed on my horse. Got down to the last minute and my bounty freed himself starting shooting at me and got executed by the townsfolk before I could react. Lesson learned! 😔

Sorry but the gold payout just isn’t enough to make it the priority role, you need gold go do treasure maps and blood money missions, better yet make friends with a higher level person who already has bounty hunter and then you can just tag along when they do bounties. I’d recommend collector to level up quick, then trader/moonshiner for the money grind. And bounty hunter last for when you come across a low level who needs some help getting started

Can I use the hunting wagon or any other wagons to carry bounty’s in? I like doing the multiple target bounties but after he is saying the bounty wagon is shit idk what to get to carry all my bounties

I play bounty hunter when friends want to play because I'm not going to do collector with a friend, but after getting to rank 10 and getting the badass second holster with the snake on it I don't see the appeal of grinding any longer. And if you're grinding for gold, lets be real, you can buy three roles for twenty bucks, less than a meal at most restaurants. Compare the cost of Red Dead gold to GTA Online Shark cards and it's not even close, gold is a bargain at the store.
You can literally pay $100 in GTA Online for a Mgaladon Shark card and there's still the most expensive yacht you still can't afford. That game's a requirement to grind.
I can shoot while driving The bounty wagon and I like it because Etta doesn’t run away while I’m waiting it’s also bullet proof so I hide behind it in a corner

Great video man. But the reason Rockstar chose to payout more for the more time invested is because many of the timed missions, including bounties, have waves of enemies. They're paying you for defeating more and more enemies. The issue is, the enemies tend to stop spawning when you enter town. So if you wait there you MAY end up dealing with other players tempted to steal your stuff but honestly it doesn't happen too often. Many have broken the game and can literally print cash or whatever item they want. I'm disappointed that Rockstar can't figure out how to moderate both GTA and RDR.

Okay so i have purchased the bounty wagon just because i play with friends. The bounty wagon is not a bad purchase ONLY IF you want to do the 4/6 man bounties with buddies. With bolas i agree. I've had no use for it. Playing solo or posse, they're useless!

The Bolas are very handy if you need to do 2 or more Targets.
AND they are really great at PvP.

A good tip is to knock out each bounty target after you hogtie them and they can’t escape and you can do multiple solo without the wagon

i saw a comment saying that rather then waiting you could if you have collector unlocked go and collect a few card or jewelry but of course you will have to use the rdo collector map then after you collected all the ones that are closest to you, you go ahead and finish the bounty and get max payout plus you get collector cards so basically 2 birds with 1 stone again this was not my idea i read it from some other comment forgot his name so if that person reads this comment thank you for the advice and hope this was helpful to anyone. and i just did the legendary bounty wolf man with 3 of my friends like an hour ago and i kid you not the dude got killed by a bear and we got payed like 5 dollars so we wasted time and i lost a legendary bounty so not sure if this was bad luck or the bounty was just broken but i will most likely not do wolf man ever again also you have to do it in the mountains so it will take you forever to take him to jail

I remember spending most of my time in RDR1 doing bounty hunter stuff. I was disappointed by how little RDR2's single player offered in terms of bounty targets, so maybe this will help scratch that itch when I get around to it. I'm just getting back into the game and I plan on trying the online stuff soon too.

I simply farm all of the infamous bounties I know I can complete solo. I CAN do the Armadillo one, but at least two out of those four are getting shot, lol. The one with the cave I simply can’t do due to time restraints.

It depends on what legendary bounty choosed - you will get maximum payout for Red Ben Clampson, Etta Doyle and for a legendary bounty from prestigious licence Virgil "The Shepherd" Edwards

I noticed there is a different loading screen if you knock out the targets
A tip for etta doyle, wait in that one "cave" (when you spawn in the Mission just go straight) till she teleports to one spot, or she says "it's a trap or smth like that", then her minions run away and mostly dont shoot you, and you just have to catch her and you are done (it can take up to 4 minutes for her to teleports, just Look all the time on your map while hidding)

If you don't want to buy the Reinforces Lasso, whenever you hogtie a bounty, leave them on the ground and take out your revolver (or pistol). Then just kick them in the face until they get knocked out. You won't kill them, and no more squirmin. You're welcome.
