    in modern Arnis we call that Redonda because it is more on circular across body strike while sinawali is a pattern of bamboo weaving technics which is an alternate cutting strike from right over left position starting from right hand forehand strike target area is the left temple then withdraw to left shoulder follow by left hand back hand strike target area is left knee then withdraw to left shoulder third follow up is a right back hand strike target area is the right temple then withdraw to the left armpit or left waist following the same pattern from left over right position going right over left position

    Hey Mark, there's a difference between boxing and martial arts like Kali, boxing is a sport, so the people doing boxing are athletes like Manny Pacquiao, they have footwork not just punching. Not only that, they eat right, train everyday, endurance, etc. From my perspective, you don't have to incorporate other martial arts like what the UFC is doing, you can incorporate sports with martial arts, so that your technique is optimized. For example, a jab from Manny would be so different, would be so high level, you would not be able to see it, thus effective. I played tennis, that's the other reason why I am looking at Arnis. In tennis, you would split step (like a jumping jack) as the opponent strike the ball, so you will know where the ball is going, to your forehand or backhand. But most tutorials focus on the swing. The split step can be incorporated in FMA, so you are constantly ready, ready to react - to defend or attack. I don't know why Taekwondo pratictioners hop or skip, but that would be equivalent to split step in tennis. Maybe Kali practioners can do something like that.

    Pls, if your forte is in empty hand I would love to see footage of some sparring. I really want to understand empty hand Arnis, and seeing more content like that would help me so much. There are no Arnis schools where I live sadly. Love your videos, thanks!

      Depends on what context you put empty hand in. Empty hand for me personally can range from striking in a kuntao (karate) perspective all the way to a fight in the alley lol.
      I can definitely incorporate a little bit of pressure testing, but the true answer is how you specifically feel cause my thought process may be much different than yours. (Which doesn't necessarily mean it's right or the best)

      @SamuelSantos-bx2rh 4 роки тому

      @@mcanastacio I guess I mean, fight in the alley, Filipino Martial arts, definitely striking. But whatever it is, pressure testing sounds like a great idea, and I would love to see a demonstration of it! Thanks for the response!

    Hi Mark,
    Isn't the double stick sinawali, derived from Doces Pares? Hope I spelled that right?

    • @mcanastacio
      @mcanastacio  4 роки тому +4

      Doce Pares have definitely popularized it, but sinawali or circular striking has been around in some shape or form since kali was first documented.

      Basically, Escrima Arnis and Kali and Silat that originated from the Mindanao region have a lot of similarities, for the masters know each other and share a lot of experiences and interpretations
