In fact when i was 20yo my first car was a vanagon to, a panelvan ex army 2wd. And my dream was to make a little camper out of it. But because it was a 1.7diesel with only 50hp and short gear transmission after a year i sold it because it wasn't fun to drive anymore especially not as a daily driver. And man im 27 now time flies, and still thinking every day what i would be doing if i wasn't working at my job haha. But i like my job now, i recently completely restored a 1972 vw combi and making a camper of it! Almost completely finished now 👍🏼🙂🙂
Answering why I’m watching. Used to live in my car during 2021. Working a regular 9-5 now. Planning out my next car/van build. So I’m seeing what van lifers are doing to keep me motivated while I save up to go back on the road.
I would say the reason why I watch your videos is because I wish for a life like yours and you entourage me to make it happen.

I’m not sure why I watch the vanlife videos. I know it makes a big difference who is the creator. You are someone I enjoy “being with”. (Listening to what’s on your mind). 😊And, of course, the scenery is captivating.
Great idea , using front of vanagan to hitch up hammock to tree. STUNNING views of the area you was in , Keep being you and be happy at what you are doing, seems like you have great fun at what you are doing. I about lost it when you slipped on the slop heading towards the lake, I said well if he slips and rolls the the lake and falls in ,he have his bath over in a jiffy, Lol😂 Also keep up the great attitude man.

Love this style of content. I’ve done some van life-ing with my gf bc she lived in a van for two years and I never could quite commit to the whole thing. But I’m building out my CRV for doing weekend adventures around Utah and the west coast. If you ever find yourself in Utah we should do some climbing(:

I watch for entertainment and cos I'm a VW enthusiast, love camping, van life and T3 Kombis. I was looking at getting a T2 or T3 but I know what a pain old VWs can be (own a 1964 VW Beetle) so I got a 2018 VW T6 Transporter cargo van and got it fitted out to camp in.
I am a fellow syncro owner from Australia and I obviously started watching because of the van and was impressed with the gearbox swap and all the mechanical stuff that you do all by yourself just like ThatBalwainLife. I would love to see some syncro specific content like a visit to GoWesty or even better Marco Mansi workshop those guys are insane at van upgrades
Yes i agree, i would like that sort of content to. Also it would be fun if you did a video about your engine and the maintenance you going to do on it. About to actually build out my first gen crv to live in full time for 3 months planned to start but may extend it if I enjoy the lifestyle. I like to watch videos like this for the vibe but now more so educational to understand what I might be getting into by using other accounts. Living in North Cal myself but plan to adventure around. Last trip was salt flats in Oregon for the solar eclipse.

I've seen so many videos of people doing this and saying that they have no income or money at all going into this. Then I think to myself of repair costs, gas, insurance, food, and just basic needs of living off-road in a van. I don't know how it works in other states, but in Texas, it's required to have car insurance. Regardless, I'm currently saving up for a tacoma and getting rid of my smol sedan, and saving up money in general to start my journey. I'm 22 so I have some time.
No income doesn’t work for long haha. I currently spend about 2k a month total. That’s pretty easy money to make. Definitely a cheap lifestyle. Good luck man! I’m 23 so right there with ya.
I was brought up on caravans and campers and as an adult i got back into them,a few tourers then a big static, we sold our mazda bongo camper 10mths ago due to having to much rust, we miss that little bugga, I'm watching you bud coz your doing this whilst your young, living the dream man🤙

Entertainment plus love the outdoors. You have great energy and videos are enjoyable. I’ll be starting van life (but in retirement and in Australia) in 8 weeks. VW T6. No where near as cool as yours but still can’t wait. Keep up the great work

The entertainment factor is a plus, but dreaming and planning this lifestyle definitely helps, when you can watch someone do it and have fun at the same time. Definitely inspires me to bite the bullet and start traveling

I always have a little bottle of soap and at least 3 gallons of water so I just boil out whatever pan I cooked in, old chef trick that gets anything out without much scrubbing! I watch these videos because I do the same stupid stuff in my vanagon, only on the weekends.
I watch these kinds of videos mostly for entertainment.
And whenever you say: " Man this view is pretty! " Cut to cinematic shots. At that moment want to see what you're looking at!

I'm here for the entertainment. I found your channel after buying a Honda CR-V for an extra vehicle. I've been a car nut since a very early age, so I started watching your earlier videos, and have to admit you and your friends modifying the cars reminded me of my younger days (the episodes with the Baja Bug were great). I never gave up the 9-to-5 due to a pension, but would pick out a destination for the weekend, and spend it traveling there and back using dirt roads as much as possible. I met lots of interesting folks that I never would have otherwise. I stayed because I like your drone footage and your editing ability keeps your videos from being boring, and you are just 'you' without over-acting or sensationalizing for the camera.
Very much want vanlife in the future (currently 17)

Thank you! It’s definitely a fun lifestyle. I personally spend around 2k a month currently. About 700 on food 700 on gas 400 in bills and another 200 on random stuff. Very cheap life!

I'm looking to get into Vanlife, but rather than just buying a regular old commercial vehicle like a ford transit or chevy express I want something that I can be proud of and enjoy not only driving but looking at. Personally I love Volkswagon Westfalias, I believe thats what you have? correct me if I'm wrong, and would love to buy an older style but just not sure what to look out for and whether its worth the risk of having something older... So that brings me to my questions. What kind of condition did you buy yours in and was there anything you needed to repair and or replace entirely in order to get it running how it is? Also how has it been when you take it to the shop? Is it easy for the mechanics to find parts and stuff? and were they expensive?
I know that's a lot of questions, but id love if you could help me out a bit and provide some insight into the vehicle side of things.
I love having a unique van. Mines just a tin top Syncro. I’m general of someone’s looking into one of these I tell them they either have to know how to work on everything themselves or have LOTS of money to pay someone else to work on them. Very few shops will even take them and they usually need a lot of work. I bought mine in very good condition and I still have to work on it like once a week. Just part of owning an almost 40 year old vehicle.
What did you do to escape that 9-5 life and officially move into the van
