- After weeks of having no free time i head out with my dog Hunter to the local wood i have permission to be on to test out a couple of new items i have purchased.
I was kindly given a Dutch army Hooped Bivvy to test out before agreeing to purchase it, i also treated myself to a Bushbox XL to make my cooking in the woods and on camping trips a lot better.
Shout out to Lee at burton outdoors / @burtonoutdoors
thanks for the bivvy bud....

Great video.
Subbed.
My bushbox XL combination kit
Warped with heat.
I've now got the firebox gen 2 kit.
Miles better. Warp proof design, epic build quality.
Your dog appears to be nuts. 🤣😂😅
@@davidjacobs828 Thannks for the info and for subbing and watching mate take care 👍🏻
There are straps underneath for putting a sleep mat in. I use the German army one under and my ( relatively thin) self inflatable inside. Maybe you could have something like my German one underneath, then sandwich your inflatable on top, between the bivi and the mat, so it’s protected from the ground. That would leave loads more space in the bivi!😁
Thats a pretty good idea mate something ill defo look into. Thanks for the advice.
I use a pillow and a nice thick airmat, and put my bag at the foot to raise it up all the way down. Holds the bag off my legs too.
Hello mate . Great video. I use the Dutch hooped bivi with a roll mat on the outside loops and an OEX inflatable on the inside . .works for me. My wood stove ( or at least one of them ! ) of choice is an IKEA cutlery strainer modified as a stove. Lightweight, strong and my billy fits inside. .. all for a couple of quid and its really light. ! Thumbs up bud.
Thanks for the comment mate, i am going to have to try different matt with the bivvy for sure lol.
Oh thats sounds a right bargain mate fair play.
Take care 👍🏻
nice to see ya back out mate ps ya dog is class👍👍👍👍
Cheers pal 👌🏻👍🏻
Great video👍👍👍👍
Brilliant video mate love the dog he was the star of the show 👍
Thanks pal 👌🏻👍🏻
Gotta love the Dutch army bivvy, perfect for a stealth, warm and waterproof. Its goretex so it breathes.
I am yet to try it out mate. Im thinking more summertime with a bivvy as the floor is colder during winter times. Thanks for subbing mate and commenting
cute dog
Yeah very tight even for me with the UL80, I'm a side sleeper and found it ok on a thinner self inflating foam mat, my mat is about 5cm so you do get additional space then, also if you guy the hoop out with the cord it lifts it a bit. No probs Sonney of you don't want it, send it back and I will whop it on fleabay. Nice Bushbox 👍
Cheers lee i do have a smaller matt so am going to try it with that at home. Also my son loves it so...... lol
Cheers 👍🏻
I just found and subbed. I look forward to more awesome content..
Thank you
Good video mate, loving the set up there, wood stove I've never really thought of doing, always been a gas man. Might be worth something toook in to. Lively dog you have 🤣 bet he keeps you on toes 😂... Loving the man cave aswel, I need to bag me one of them. Thanks for sharing. ATB Dave 👍
Cheers mate, yeh i prefer wood stoves but then im mainly in a wood where i can have fire and you mainly mainly in a tent on mountains lol where you cant have fire. Yeh his a handful at the mo still a young pup at 7 months old.
I have had a few good heavy nights up there already lol. You should defo get one.
Thanks for watching
Hope you like it. I didn’t like mine after the first go. It did feel too small. But persevere with it.
Lee told me on our camp together to not peg out the foot end if you move your legs a lot at night.
It worked a treat.
But you are big fella and look wider than me 😁
I’m 5’11” and 14st if that is a guide.
My air mat isn’t as thick as yours.
Edit to add: That man cave is the Poodles Undercarriage. 11/10 for the work you've all put in.
Much fun to be had in there 🍺
Im 5'10 and 17 st 😂😂
Think ill keep it and try it out on a smaller matt mate. And my son likes it so he can use it also.
Haha cheers mate there is gonna be many of heavy night's in there 😂😂😂
Thanks for watching take care 👌🏻👍🏻
@@southbucksbushcraft6572 Thinner mat will work. I like the no condensation aspect.
Oh blimey, yes. Ideal for your son, eh 😉👍🏼
Heavy night’s afoot 😂
You can pull the bug net open for those nights so you still get plenty of needed air 🤢
@@BourneOutside thanks for tour comment mate all
On board
I love my hooped bivy but mine is a Carinthia made one from Belgium in the funky camo they liked to use, which actually isn't so bad. I was always wanting one of the Dutch ones but heard too many horror stories of the Fesca made ones having zipper issues. The Belgian one kinda fell into my lap, I didn't even know they existed but I was glad to be in the right place at the right time.
Ahh nice one mate, yeh i have heard the strorys about the zip but nothing that cant be fixed i suppose. Ill have to have a look at the belgian one mate thanks for watching 👌🏻👍🏻
Hello mate good to see ya back out I have a few different wood stoves but not got the Bush box not sure if it's worth money what do think to it now you used.....stay safe peace
Now iv used it i love it mate.
Just the size, the ease is awesome.
Thanks mate
Hooped bivy looks good

Good video sonny mate, I did a video on camping in the Dutch army bivi last lockdown in the back garden I thought it was decent like. Atb Wullie

Thanks for watching bro.
When we getting a video from tou then?
@@southbucksbushcraft6572 I’m 120 kg and I was fine mate. 😂😂
Thanks for subscribing we have spoke on text before I live near you so when lockdown lifts give me a shout go for an overnighter if ya like peace ✌
Yeh we have. Wendover ?
Defo mate
Yeah wendover mate 👌 look forward to it peace ✌ 👍
Another good video mate I’m after that bivi myself when I can afford it
Haha they are nice i just hope i enjoy my first night in it being 17stone
@@southbucksbushcraft6572 haha mate I’m bigger lthen that at moment trying to sort myself out though lol
@@paulsoutdooradventures1790 fair enough mate
@@southbucksbushcraft6572 I’m about your size, I had the British army FECSA medium bag, which is a bit of a tight fit. Combined with that and the Dutch bivi, I kept waking feeling claustrophobic. I got a Snugpak Elite 3 with the expanding panel, unfortunately, that time I was on a bit of a slope and kept sliding down to the end....the lockdown happened, and I haven’t had chance to use it properly since. I’m sure when I sleep in a good spot, no slopes, with my roomy bag, I’ll be fine. The thing is, I use to go potholing 30 years ago, I shouldn’t get claustrophobic at this time in life!😂🤣
@@Mat-kr1nf thanks for the comment mate i will
Take note. Take care 👌🏻👍🏻
dude, nice dog... but if you've got concerns about your airbed getting punctured - well, I'm sure you already know the answer
Thanks pal.. thanks for watching
Very Nice video! Big like👍 from me! Ι also like outdoors and post some videos hiking with my dog to. Keep on!!!
Thanks for tour comment appreciated. I will have a watch on tour channel
Just subbed mate
Me too
I need a dog so bad for my camping trips
They are great and thats his first time out with me 👌🏻👍🏻
who here is releated to him meeeeeeeeeeeeeee
Sleeping in the bivy is like sleeping in the morgue seriously it's sucks
😂😂😂😂 Thats a great way of putting it
So you present items you havent any adea about. Its not a review. I bet that airbed cant fit inside with you and your sleeping bag- simply no space.
Wasn’t a review it was a first look. If I said review I apologise. And yes with the matt inside I had no room. But a good bit of kit if it’s what your into. Me personally not like
Confined spaces so wasn’t for me.
