      Can't beat good surplus gear, will last a lifetime especially if looked after. I have had many an adventure out and my gear has never let me down.
      Just managed to get hold of some new kit too which i am looking forward to testing out soon for a new video.
      My older brother was in during 90s ,,RDG. Challengers. Younger brother is still in..Lancs. infantry. 👍🍻
      Hope you enjoy using the hooped bivi.. you will be used to using the british army gear including the bivi.. i like the fact you can fully close up from the elements if it gets nasty out.

    Just found this video, awesome.
    My Bivvy arrived this week and tried it out in the garden, struggled for room, but had a thermarest mat and air mat on top so that’s why.
    I’m going to try just the German mat underneath like yourself and my thermarest thin mat plus sleeping bag and hopefully that will help.
    Some are putting their rucksack in too, wow 😯 too much surely.
    So Basha definitely good idea to keep the weather and wind away, brilliant video mate, now following and look forward to watching your other vids 👍🏻😊

    • @residentoutdoors2303
      @residentoutdoors2303  Рік тому +1

      Hi, the hooped bivi is a great bit of kit, it is definately low profile so best to use a thin sleeping pad inside, the foam mat you can use underneath to add insulation whilst also protecting the underside of the bivi.
      I generally always take a basha tarp set up with the bivi, there is room for the bergen/ rucksack at the bottom, but i suppose it all depends on ypur size and how much room you take, also depends on which size of bivi you have also.
      I hope you enjoy some great adventures out in your hooped bivi, a decent bit of kit that's for sure,
      Just from experience, if you are using a tarp set up it will afford you the option of allowing you to leave part of the zip down allowing fresh air inside, even when i have used the bivi without a tarp i leave just a few inches of the zip undone to allow some ventilation. With the outer zip flap if it were to rain unless it really chucked it down you should be ok and you wont get much of any rain inside.
      Thanks for watching. Atb 🙌👍👍

      @@residentoutdoors2303 brilliant advice and thanks for your time, I certainly will be taking my tarp alongside too and try that out, sounds best way really.
      I will either bit my bergan at the bottom or leave it outside under the tarp.
      Thanks again mate and safe travels all the best 👍🏻🏕

      Definately living the dream when I'm out and about surrounded by that scenery for sure.. the only real time I feel my ankle injury is when I'm stopped for a while it can sometimes start to feel like a dull ache, doesn't bother me so much when I'm active and moving.
      I definately enjoyed taking the old army gear out, something different and I enjoyed it too..surprisingly comfortable. 👍👍👍

    Aaah what a cracking vid mate. Cheers for that. What a belter. I’m a real sucker for the army surplus too. I’ve just got myself a Dutch army bivvy, haven’t got to try it out yet. It’s the Fecsa one. Seems alright though. Super grade condition, looks brand new. I was told by someone that you put your thick sleep mat on the outside in those loops because of the headroom issue. I guess if you slip the German one in between that and ground that could protect it from sharp pebbles etc. Not sure if I’d want to try that with and expensive Therm-a-rest mat though, it might be a bit risky. Anyway that was great to watch, I’ll definitely be watching more from your back catalogue and hopefully see your up coming ones too 🤞right I’m now going to search for your friend Andrew’s channel for some chilli eating lol. All the very best! ✊🏻 👉

      Hi, thankyou for that comment. Much appreciated.
      I have heaps of surplus gear and should really get out more with it really.
      Your right you put the thick closed cell foam mat underneath the bivy using the loops to keep it in place as designed.
      All i will say for using any type of pad inside is make sure its not too thick as you are limited in room for height once you zip yourself inside.
      The Fecsa bivvy is just as good in my opinion as i also had that make of bivvy, either one are both top quality with very little difference. In all my previous old videos i used the fecsa dutch hooped bivvy.
      A fantastic piece of kit.
      Hope you enjoy Andrews channel too. Thanks for watching stay safe and ATVB 👍👍👍 Matt.

      Hi, i bought that particular bivi a good few years ago now off a guy from Norway. It really is in mint condition and from purchasing it has just been a case of looking after it best i can like i do all my gear. 👍👍

      @@residentoutdoors2303 that's great mate looking to get into the full swing of Munroes in Scotland this year. Brought a super condition dutch bivi mint condition it's the spanish one still really happy with it. How do you maintain the seams and do you use tech wash and the tent/solar proof on yours?

    • @residentoutdoors2303
      @residentoutdoors2303  2 роки тому +1

      @@Matthew-hs1qi i also own the spanish made version which was the first one i bought and i can honestly tell theres not much difference at all between the two. Both versions are made to high standards and extremely durable. They both perform exactly the same, i gave mine a hand wash in the bath with tech wash and re proofer once and that was it, make sure you use a pad underneath the bivi to protect the bottom when your using it.
      In both versions they use heavy duty seam tape, just a quick check every now and again, if the seam tape were to look like it needed replacing plenty of places will re seam tape for you.
      I am also looking at getting myself upto Scotland at some point this year for some hiking and wild camping. Just a case of planning and the time to do it. 👍👍👍
