The show The Boys is one of those few examples where the adaptation is arguably better than the source materual. Maybe that's just me, but I much prefer people being dicks and absolute bastards to each other for an actual purpose of attempting meaningful social commentary instead of people being terrible as a punchline in and of itself like in the comics. The world needs less cynicism and nihilism, not more of it, and if it does exist, it should at least be used for some other constructive purpose.
I disagree a lot. The changes that they've done was stupid and while some aspects were better, others were far worse like making Soldier Boy the father of Homelander. I think the adaptation we should've gotten was similar to that of I'm Your Pusher.

I'm really surprised the Aquafina episode is your favorite, no offence but I think it's easily the worst episode. Personally I didn't like the humour that much, I don't care much for having 'learn to love yourself' as the main plotpoint because I think it's boring and perdictable once the premise is set-up, plus I find Aquafina kind of annoying. Mostly because they have really well animated action sequences and they both feel like they use more interesting plot elements then the other episodes.

The Awkwafina episode was unbearable to watch, and I legit regret sitting through it. The whole joke in this episode is that a turd came to life... Also, the anime style was making me cringe the entire time, but that's personal.

Hate is a strong word. I like them a lot. I understand if people prefer the show because their sensitivities or preferences aren't the same as other people in terms of morally cynical content, but hating it just because it challenges the mainstream appeal and takes a different approach to its values and storytelling that most media companies wouldn't dare to produce is kinda dumb.
Ennis works best with somebody to hold him back. On the boys comic, he had little, if any, editorial oversight, and because of that, it ended up unnecessary and unpleasant. I’m sure there was some oversight from somebody at Amazon (or at least consideration for Amazon’s standards). This episode was the best thing to come out of the comic, probably ever.
@@vivimos_en_una_sociedad7758 I don't hate it cuz it challenges the mainstream appeal. It's cuz they are inferior to the show in every way. They entirely rely on shock value. But I have heard that the boys comic gets better as it goes on. I only read the first volume

I really like how the show has animation from Invincible and Rick and Morty and even animation that looks like you’d see from a kids show for this show. Shows that animation doesn’t always have to be for children
I’d rather just watch an entire animated series of The Boys by Garth Ennis. Awkwafina needs to not be around any more creative projects in general, in person or otherwise. She is garbage. Why was she allowed to ruin The Boys Diabolical AND Shang Chi?
garth ennis is a good writer but the show is leagues better than the comic. the comic is full of needless edgniness while it all serves a purpose in the show with way better character development. also awkwafina is hardly that bad. what did she do to be considered garbage? make some stuff u dont like? i didnt like her episode here but she hardly ruined shang chi
For real, I remember sitting on the couch with my friends, sobbing through the end of episode 7, only to scream when I saw "Written by Andy Samberg". Never in my life would I have guessed he could do something like that...
I'm actually glad The series took a different direction than the comics but all the same, it was enjoyable to see an unfiltered/unchanged version of the comics written by the creator. It even does some fun things like having Simon Pegg voice Hugie (almost as if it was always intended this way). And yes, I believe Jason Isaacs could have definitely played Butcher just as well as Karl Urban could have (both are brilliant actors). Though my favorite episode has to be Nubian Prince and Nubia's episode. That one is just really funny and cynical, backed up my masterful voice acting from John DiMaggio, Aiesha Keys, and Don Cheedle. There is charm to most episodes except the one by Awkafina. Not even hilarious D-Bag loser "The Deep" could save that one.
I'll be honest, when I watched Diabolical, I just saw it as what people *think* The Boys is about rather than what the show is *actually* about. However, your video has made me tempted to re-watch the show and has given me a new angle to look at the show - I haven't read the original comics, particularly after hearing the show was actually an improvement to it's source material, but I might pick one up (at some point) to see for myself, now. I'm planning on looking into the main show (never the comic though), its lore & message are interesting. You can really tell how in Diabolical each episode was envisioned by a different person. Even if not all of them are good (looking at *you,* Awkwafina), I just love the idea, as it gives artists a chance & breeds creativity. Now I know which of these I'll enjoy based on my tastes, thank you.
It’s interesting how each episode resembles a completely different show. Some styles I recognized, some I didn’t. Does this mean that these are all self contained stories? Marvel like alternate scenarios? It’s giving me a lot of questions…

It was so disappointing in the end to have litearlly noting happen other than "wow I have poop friends", like who is that episode for? Kids who are 4 and can be entertained by 20 minutes straight of shit? It just didn't fit with the boys
From best to worst, in my opinion: -Episode 7, John and Sun Hee (9/10) -Episode 8, One Plus One Equals Two (8.5/10) -Episode 3, I'm Your Pusher (7.5/10) -Episode 6, Nubian vs Nubian (7/10) -Episode 4, Boyd in 3D (7/10) -Episode 1, Laser Baby's Day Out (6.5/10) -Episode 5, BFFs (3/10) -Episode 2, An Animated Short Where Pissed Off Supes Kill Their Parents (2/10)
I agree on Ep 2 being the worst! I liked the beginning but ultimately couldn't even finish it. I'm usually on board with all the gore of The Boys-verse but that one... I have to admit was just a little too disturbing. 😣
every time i watch something written by andy samberg it’s either the most beautiful, heartwarming, wholesome thing ever made or so funny i piss my pants
I liked the one Ennis wrote and I liked the one about the little girl who gets a villian killed in order to get her parents to screw again, I thought that was funny. Also the first episode was fun because of the animation.
If the guy didn't say that ironcast used to drink that blood to "Feel their despair", i would think of that as a good or at least decent act. I mean, i doubt that blood coming from terminal patients could be reused for transfusions (Unless there's any way to "purify" it) so it would be a waste of space to keep that much uselessly gathered in a blood bank.
it's possible to make that power funny, but not basing an entire episode around it. Like throw her in for like 2 minutes of an episode, make fun of the powers, maybe have her die in a horrible fashion to show that her powers are shit (hehe). But making us sit throught a full 20 minutes of those powers, with an unlikeable character attached to them, just a horrible idea I don't understand how anyone signed off on
Episode 5 is easily the worst, Awkwafina's voice doesn't fit the character in the slightest other than the juvenile humour and the whole story is just kind of mid. It just doesn't feel like it belongs in The Boys, just an excuse to let Awkwafina have her own episode. An easy skip compared to the other episodes.
No it’s a homage to anime Cleary. And it’s not funny like those shows because they use black humor. Stuff that’s so fucked up you can’t help but giggle

damn I really liked episode 6. but they did the villain guy dirty
"Don't skip meals just because I'm not around." One of the most beautiful lines of dialogue I've heard this year.
The world needs less cynicism and nihilism, not more of it, and if it does exist, it should at least be used for some other constructive purpose.
arguably? nah the show is way fucking better and it’s not even close
@@quanicle101 not really
I disagree a lot. The changes that they've done was stupid and while some aspects were better, others were far worse like making Soldier Boy the father of Homelander. I think the adaptation we should've gotten was similar to that of I'm Your Pusher.
@@shiori00 literally everything about the show is better. the comic was a 12-year-old’s power fantasy, all edge and no substance.

The living poop episode was really bad imo, other than that i liked all the eps, esp the one with the old lady with cancer and the one done in the same style as the comics
The rick and morty one was kinda funny too i guess.
Isn't the poop episode as ridiculous a concept as Pickle Rick?

Idk if this is a hot take or not but i think that the Aquafina episode was the worst one compared to the other ones. It felt very lazily written probably because it's written by Aquafina. Although I do have my bias cuz I don't like Aquafina in general, didn't like her in Rya and I don't like her music. Im my opinion she shouldn't go into voice acting because her vocal range is as far as a inchworm and I think she should go back to making music I will not listen to.
It's almost unanimously considered as the worst one. You're not alone here.
@@jekkijekster as it should. I think awkwafina should apologize publicly!

It’s literally a story about shit.
damn the butthurt is real
I'm really surprised the Aquafina episode is your favorite, no offence but I think it's easily the worst episode.
Personally I didn't like the humour that much, I don't care much for having 'learn to love yourself' as the main plotpoint because I think it's boring and perdictable once the premise is set-up, plus I find Aquafina kind of annoying.
I think the homelander episode is the best, then probably episode 7 or something. Mostly because they have really well animated action sequences and they both feel like they use more interesting plot elements then the other episodes.
One of his reasons was “because I’m a weeb I guess” something along those lines. So if it wasn’t in a anime art style. YOU WOULD YOU HAVE STILL LIKED IT??👀 that episode is really more for kids. The lazy kind of content

So I gave a few of my personal reasons why I didn't like the poop episode, then stated the episodes I do like the most and a couple reasons why I like those episodes.
@@rsdillbot3646 Dude it was actually so bad. It felt likes a cartoon network episode
@@hinamatsuro1908 what does that even mean? Cartoon network birthed courage the cowardly dog, the gateway to horror for this generation when they were younger. He liked it because of the shitty humor. Literally.
Because it's incredibly on the nose and silly, probably why, it's just fun
Now realizing that Episode 7's v'd up, weaponized cancer is just a stylized version of Butcher's new powers.
Episode 7 hit me so unexpectedly, I was expecting goofy superhero stories and got hit with this tale of love and the acceptance of death, both for oneself and those you love. I actually couldn't believe I was crying
Episode 7 genuinely made me cry, which was one of the things I expected the least when going into this show.
Damn, rewatched this video a year later not knowing I watched it already and seeing a few clips of the episode made me cry again. Such a good episode.
The commentary after that last finale regarding the Homelander and Noir short hits different
This might be what you mean anyway, but i really feel that (although i had my issues with the finale) the finale confirmed his investment in noir, that's why he felt *so* betrayed. Although it felt like a waste of noirs story, it made sense character wise.
I still can’t believe Andy Samberg wrote such a serious and emotional story. Dude has hidden depths.
Not even trying to sound dramatic but the awkwafina episode almost made me tap out of the series entirely. Thankfully there is nothing that God awful for the rest of the series
I'm so happy I decided to skip it.
It DID make me tap out. I never watched another episode after that.
The one where the cream makes his head explodes, I took it as his head explodes the first time he used the cream and all that happened was a hallucination of some sorts

I genuinely hated the akwafina episode. I cringed the whole way through, hoping for something cool to happen at the end or something. it didn't. 1/10 episode (I know it was supposed to be stupid but I dont care)
it was supposed to be stupid, but they somehow even screwed that up. You can't just make a cringy thing and then say "no we did it on purpose, you have to laugh", you still have to make it funny. Making something purposefully bad yet still enjoyable to watch is difficult, and ig Awkwafina didn't have the skills required to pull it off

Episode 3 should get it's own series.
“an serious”
I love the mistype in the title
The Awkwafina episode was unbearable to watch, and I legit regret sitting through it. The whole joke in this episode is that a turd came to life... Listen, I appreciate some mindless toilet humor every once in a while, but this was an absolute overkill. The poop is alive, WE GET IT! Also, the anime style was making me cringe the entire time, but that's personal.
It sucked. Zzzz
@AP AP tbh, probbably both
dude, i like anime, this was a shallow western interpretation of what anime is like. i agree with everything you said tho, including the cringing part
I hate how some western 'anime' has made out anime to be basically like...whatever episode 5 was and it honestly felt more like steven universe
I agree that poop episode sucked
I think episode 7 was a hint for the coming season 5, because the tumor monster is identical to what happens to butcher at the end of season 4
I kinda hate the boys comic.... But that episode is a perfect encapsulation of what works in the comic...
I definitely prefer the emotional, explicitly political show
Hate is a strong word.
@@vivimos_en_una_sociedad7758 nah it’s the fact that the comic at times was needlessly edgy
@@vivimos_en_una_sociedad7758 The comic may as well have been written over razors, because of how edgy it is.

That for the first time in a while for me was a really good video. Thanks

Surprising video but very interesting nonetheless and thank you for highlighting some themes/readings I didn't pick up upon, prior.
