- Crashing is a part of BMX and it's not a matter of if but when and I have crashed many of times over my BMX career and in todays video I am going to break down my worst crash ever and explain exactly what went wrong as an educational video to help prevent other riders from making the mistakes that I've had. Remember to always stay safe and alert while riding your BMX bike and ALWAYS wear your helmet!
Vans Presents: Scotty Cranmer Classic Tales • Scotty Cranmer Smashes...
Should definitely do more reacting to old stuff like this scott. And not just crashes maybe some of your favorite moments
Id watch him just watching the UA-cam series from the start 😆 but yeah totally agree more of these behind the scenes vids
Nah
Agreed
Agreed
To make an entire video about an embarrassing mistake from your past, and to teach people to learn from your mistake.... This is why Scotty is a legend and the GOAT in BMX.
I remember this and was so scared for you. Double flips always make me think of Stephen Murray. Glad you made it through
Same!
The designer of the McLaren F1????
Man, you're way braver than me Scotty. I can't imagine going through all that pain. Passion. By the way, I appreciate you signing your signature Vans shoes for me. They were the last pair in my size and I'm glad I purchased them from your bike shop. I will sustain them as highly valuable for as long as I can.
i love the respect you’re putting on daniel dhers. it speaks a lot about your character. and I really respect your advice and wisdom and you sharing that with us, thank you
You are truly an inspiration mate! Thank you so much for sharing so much of your story and doing these sorts of breakdowns. BMX loves you and wouldn't be the same today without you.
It's really cool to hear you tell us about your old videos, your old crashes, I find your way of approaching the subject and seeing the thing really positive clearly for me when I think of Scotty cranmer I immediately think of motivation, perseverance and positive attitude
I remember coming home from school putting on channel 419 watching you and Daniel dhers at dew tour! I was just getting into BMX at the time and you both were my first look at crazy big tricks. You still keep me in the scene now and inspiring me to ride! Legend Scotty ❤️
Extreme channel 👌🏻
I don't watch FAIL videos as a rule because I don't tend to learn anything useful from them, if anything they leave me more fearful. On the other hand, a proper deconstruction of an accident can be really useful to teach better technique and hopefully to encourage better decision making about safety margins, mental space etc...
This video definitely fits in the latter category, thank you Scotty 👍
I like the distinction. One was avoidable and the other was a freak accident
Can't believe I was actually there to see this in person. Watching Dew Tour in Orlando that year is what got me into BMX through high school. Some of my best memories and craziest experiences were thanks to being on a bike. Stuck with you as a fan throughout all these years and your journey has been incredible and inspiring. Thank you for sharing your journey the way that you have and allowing us all to be alongside you for it.
I'll be honest.. I didn't hear a single thing Scotty said in the first 2 minutes of this video cus I was so mesmerized by his riding. 😍
Great advice Scott. Just listen to your gut…. Its the Story of my life. I Really need to listen to that voice inside my head more often.
The double flip has held its own as one of the most gnarly tricks going. It was amazing to see in the 00s, and nearly 20 years later, they are amazing to see now. Whip and bar combos have come on leaps and bounds since the 00s, but double flips are still not that common. Declan Brooks knocked himself out a couple of years in a very similar fashion to this, and some of the world's best riders - who have learnt to do them - still won't do them in competition.
I used to ride back in I’d say late 90s,early 2000s. I’d watch x games with Dave Mira, Matt Hoffman,Ryan NyQuist. Then eventually stopped riding and grew old so to speak. Then I came across your channel one day last year. Didn’t know you(nothing personal) but The level of crazy good you were is just unbelievable. It’s like those guys I mentioned, the level difference from them to the very first bmx riders doing 1 footed can cans. That’s what you are to guys from the late 90s,2000s, that next level in a new era of riding. Also noticed how nearly everything you did , you did big and fast, just insane. Like everything went into full send mode. Just wanted to give you the props you deserve ,aside from your gold medals.
Btw. I bought a bike off Facebook like a year or so ago. And it has your shop sticker on it. Thought it was pretty cool, like having memorabilia.
I remember being 16 and front row at dew tour orlando and watching your teeth get blown all over the floor. 2 weeks later I fell on a mini ramp and busted my teeth out. At the time I seen your fall you were top 3 of my favorite riders and I just remember being so shook watching how hard this fall was. I still have the memories burnt into my brain from this day.
These Scotty's history breakdown vids are the most interesting imo. Love hearing the back stories.
You bounced back like a legend... Both times 💪💪
Should 100% do more videos like this reacting to old stuff. Loved This !!!
Thank you for sharing. These are fundamentals.
Also, I would love a video from you, explaining how a person should fall correctly and when to let go of the bike, roll, disscipate energy etc.
god has blessed you with superior strength not just mentally but physically. You are an inspiration and I will be raising my 3 young children to be as tough and humble as you
This was one of my favorite videos of yours in a while. Such an insane moment
your riding will forever be goated the way u moved the bike was majestic love to see you always positive God bless and stay safe 💪🏼💯
Thank God you survived both of those crashes!
Bro you are CRAZY. Just sending that w/o having that in your “toolbox” is freaking nuts!
Lucky enough to see you ride before your accident. One of the best of all time.
Scott Cranmer I remember when he first came out being a big Dave Mirra fan him giving Scotty the cosign. It absolutely broke my heart to see what happened to him in the accident but man every time I watched these guys just took me to another time
Always ride within your limits. Don't try a dangerous trick for the wrong reasons (money, influence, peer pressure). Focus on fundamentals.
daniel had some of the most technical runs back in 2008-2009 kind of crazy and almost shaped it into how people ride now at these bigger events.
You should make a look back series, I like this format, awesome video
Just the fact that you were a teenager in that is absolutely crazy
I LOVE when you react to your old footage!
I remember watching this live on TV. It made me afraid to try to learn backflips since my local park has never had a foam pit for whatever reason.
Back when I was a kid I went to your skatepark a few times. You inspired me to bmx when I was a kid man. Just wanted to thank you for all the memories watching your bmx videos with my friends.
I had one of those old "staff NJ" shirts btw lol
I remember thinking it was the short bars fault. When you started riding taller bars your flips got more controlled. Also, Daniel's bike was alot more lighter than yours at the time period. Which is why he was able to whip and flip and flair effortlessly... this was right at the end of the short bars period and the beginning of the weight weenies period.
Hope everybody who does bmx/skating stays safe out there.
Bmx and action sports in general has come so far in the last 10 15 years but I think the reason for progression is the safe practice technology with foam pits and now air bags or air bag style landings where riders can practice these gnarly tricks 100s of times to a soft landing or air bag until they dial the trick in enough to throw it down on a ramp with out getting seriously injured multiple times learning a new trick so the fact that Scotty only had a few foam pit try’s and the double then decides to throw it in competition just shows the level of gnar learning a new trick used to be
Embarrassed???? Bro the fact that you did any of this puts you on the balls of steel list. There’s nothing that could be embarrassing about any of this! Love you man !
STAFF. A wave of memories came back. The little shop inside the incline club. I had their green staff shirt in the shape of the parkway logo. Wish I saved it.
Wow bro it’s awesome to see how far you came bro I’m so happy man
My friends and I never understood why in the heck Daniel kept winning and scoring so high. Yes, he was smooth, fast and had amplitude. All great things. But he would do the exact same tricks all run every run. We'd be blown away by some of his scores being what we though were WAY over scored. Then we'd have you, doing all kinds of interesting tricks, grinds, fufanus, wall rides and taps, fakies, drop tricks, and being under scored often. Daniel is a fantastic person and rider but other riders deserved the win plenty of times when he won.
It’s crazy how wild small bars look now in the world of big bars and low seats
Another awesome video, and a great message
You're a LEGEND Scotty! I love these videos by the way, keep 'em coming!
amen brother, if you got a gut feelin', go with it.
Competition slams hit different than "riding street around the venue on the off day" slams.
❤❤❤ my favorite rider in the world thanx for being who you are scotty and your bro and making videos😇😇😇😇
Love the reaction content Scott, it's great! Keep them up bro
Thankyou for that advice, glad you are still alive scotty:)
I stick with simple and I can still destroy myself doing simple. I can only imagine what you guys put yourself through in competitions Scotty.
wish i took your advise from here years back trying to flair, straight to my face snapped my collarbone in half and pieces of the break snapped too. Rough time lol
I saw that live at the time. Really crazy crash
Miss this channel
At 8:37 you said there would be the Vans video about the incident at the end but I didn't see it when I watched until the end. What happened? Apart from that I thought this format was excellent, really liked the historical and personal input and advice.
For context to everyone, Bob Pratt is a great guy. The bet was made pre- Stephen Murray crash. He was a good dude who wanted to see the best of bmx.
Seriously, would love to see you do more reactions but also I wish you’d do more announcing tbh listening to you talk about bmx is just as interesting as watching you ride
Speaking of the dew tour, I remember saying what's up to you in Ocean city!
Hell yeah I live in ocean city
hey scotty been watching your channel on and off since i was a freshman in highschool, hope your doing good man
Really good advise in this one
i live like 2 hours away from daniel dhers park that shit is tight
how are you able to review cut comment such a video? I am shocked and stunned in a crazy way. good to see, in how well you are back on your feet!
Thanks, I really needed to cold sweat for a while.
Wow what a crash, glad you were ok after that, two missing teeth is a low price for that kind of crash. Good luck !
Would love to see you react to your old felt vids would be sick!!
you guys should head up to south carolina for the nationals at rock hill bmx it would be great to see yall there rippin threw the jumps
Hi, Scotty! I have a video about this particular accident. You are an amazing biker and stuntman!
Man… I wish something like the Dew Tour would start up again.
Much love scott!!
Still wish you could get back out there it's been years
I didn't like daniel dhers back in the early 00's because I was such a fan of yours haha
Those handlebars look so wild today lol. Tiny bars
nobody in the bmx industry will share this obviously, but freestyle bmx is the most dangerous extreme sport, even moreso than freestyle mx and supercross, because the injury rate % is so much higher and there's so few riders in the talent pool. something insane like 10% of all bmx riders to compete in major competitions since 2000 have some form of paralysis from a bmx crash.
as far as life altering injuries go, don't even risk it. you probably wouldn't go free-climbing a cliff face so why would you gamble with similar odds just because it's a bike involved? think twice or you might never have another thought. RIP to everyone who hasn't survived their crashes too, nearly 1 in 8 of those devastating crashes result in death either pulling someone off life support or they get to the hospital and cannot stop stroking out because the blood supply to their brain is disrupted by spinal and neck fractures.
be careful and always ride with someone who you trust too, especially when you're out on trails and dirt jumps or at a park you're new to.
The Dew Tour was the BEST!
we all love you dude
you should react to your actual worst crash
Do a reaction to your 2 games of bike with Cory berglar
wow, great video!
I still remember local exposure tour wreck
You are great! Cheers!
I had this crash saved on my parents DVR for years.
I used to always land a 360 off a big step up ledge. And I figured I’d do one before I go home from the skate park. Well. I bitched out half way cause it didn’t feel right and I folded my leg in half and snapped my femur. Had to learn how to walk again which took 6 months. Was awful.
Dang Scotty...That was rough!
You’ve got a beautiful smile and an awesome heart.
I was in the Audience right next to this camera. Watched the teeth go flying
remember seeing Scottys tooth flying across the floor live. Madness
Man i remember seeing this from the stands!
Absolutely sending it is still legendary 😂
Where was the vans animation at the end?
Remember watching this on tv
Any update on you and big boi’s friendship?
You are so mentally strong, cheers brother
Well I see a crash as any time you unexpectedly fall off your bike lol
Why did dew tour drop bmx 🤔?
You are hardcore Scotty 🤯
Still super gnarly!!!
So gnarly!
Steel Scotty forever 🔥
I love your positivity even after all your set backs still have a great smile still standing strong 💪 amen scotty God bless you and your family in jesus christ mighty name 😂
Dude I remember watching this live man to his teeth going across the floor man
I was there when this happened. took the air out of the room!
