  • Vans BMX presents Whirlwind, a look inside team rider Scotty Cranmer’s inspirational story, nearly five years after he endured a life-changing accident. Whirlwind chronicles Scotty’s astronomical rise to notoriety, which gripped the BMX world’s attention, and his positive “anything is possible” mindset that has kept him moving forward against all odds, even in the face of an accident that left him paralyzed from the neck down.

    Bro, holy crap. I'm in a wheelchair and your the inspiration for me. I played wheelchair rugby a few years back until I had issues with my bladder. The doctors said not to do it, 1 year later I was a on a medal winning team. I didn't get to play long but I never stop completely. I still get in my chair and go. Knocking guys down who are 300lbs plus. I'm 180lbs🤫 lol. I enjoy every day I am alive. I have bad days but everyone does. Disabled or not. Keep up the awesome work brother 👍👊

    i used to ride at the incline club all the time, his brain injury broke my heart. without any warning, i had a brain infection that led to like 4 strokes. i had brain surgery and i lost hearing in one ear. i have a permanent hearing aid and am going through a similar recovery. i hop back on my bike but can’t 180 or fakie. his recovery is my inspiration. i relate to him so much after what happened to me

    This video made me cry for so many reasons.. Scotty is an absolute legend, but I really miss Big Boy. You can hear his voice in the background of these clips and the amount of excitement he had for every time step Scotty made along the way. Really sad to see that lost. This is almost like reliving my own life in a way.. I've been watching every single video since the start and this brought back so many good and bad memories, but history is what makes us who we are. Really happy where the Cranmer crew is at these days, but can only hope that one day in the future, Big Boy can stop by for a visit and reminisce with Scotty about the good ol' days.

    April 28th 2015 I had a bike accident resulting in a fractured skull, got rushed to the hospital and had emergency surgery. Had a titanium plate installed to cover the hole that got punched in my skull. Watched Scotty the following weeks for motivation. Got back on my bike and it was the best feeling in the world. My journey was not over yet. April 3rd 2019 I accidentally drilled a hole through my hand at work causing me to faint and fall backwards on to concrete. Got rushed to the hospital. It felt like I was reliving a nightmare all over again, skull fracture for a second time. I couldn’t believe it. Weeks later I finally get my life back to normal again. 2 skull fractures and a plate in my head before I was even 21. I’m not as smart and balanced as I used to be but thankful to be alive. Thank you Scotty for always being positive and never giving up, it is a huge inspiration to me. Riding my bike is still my favorite thing to do and will be for my entire life.

    I’ve ridden a BMX bike probably 3 times in my life but I’ve watched almost every video on the SC UA-cam channel. It’s funny to think I could name every trick when I was watching the olympics. Despite the setbacks Scotty and the rest of the crew have built something special. Even though it is a BMX channel, to me at least, the best thing about it, and the reason I’ve kept watching for so many years, is the people the channel is built around. Everyone is unique and interesting, and Scotty does an amazing job of getting the best out of everyone. To me, the best thing about Scotty was never his ability on the bike. It has always been his personality, spirit, charisma, enthusiasm, and ability to bring people together. Take away all your achievements on a bike and you’re still a legend Scotty.

    I had a TBI myself. One second I was driving, the next I was in the hospital hearing about possible brain surgery. Scotty's story speaks volumes to me after the year and a half struggle I had to get back to some kind of normalcy. I watched the channel every day until the X-Games accident, when life got a little too busy to keep up anymore, but if anybody can do this, I know it's Scotty.

    I think Scotty's winner's mentality never fully materialised in his wins as a rider but in his setbacks as a person. The way he battled through a horrific injury truly inspired me to battle on with my life's problems.

    I will honestly say this is the one UA-cam recommendation that made my evening. Thanks Scotty. It is this type of dedication to the sport, community, and culture of BMX that keeps a little place in my life. I moved away from DJ and BMX for mountain biking, and then let myself get old and lose that flame. I felt that flame rekindle a bit tonight.

    I remember when I lived in Jersey & going to Incline Club every summer every 2 weeks. When ever Scotty was there, you stopped & watched him. He was my age but riding like Mirra. First time I saw him, he did a backflip over the first box, truck over the second, touched the top of the big vert wall, then flip whipped the big box. He came back on the deck & just started talking to his friends. Its was the most casual run I ever saw. I was freaking out but he was just doing what scotty did.

    As someone who fractured my skull skating, if it wasn't for scotty's video, it made me realize how serious my head injury was. I was in a coma while on life support for a week, so I didn't get to experience that part. I just remember waking up tied down to a hospital bed. I never got help after that as figured I could do it all on my own as I didnt truly understand the severity of my injury. I always watched scotty's videos, so when I seen his first video back, it got emotional as I made me think of what I went through while I was in coma. So I reached out for help. I know scotty probably won't see this, but your bike accident wasn't the only thing that inspired people, youre recovery deserves medals too.

    I’ve been watching scottys channel since day one and it has been an amazing journey to watch him be the best at what he does and to see it ripped away from him and to see him react the way he did and do the things he’s done since the accident, well it’s just simply amazing there’s no other word to explain it. Matty said it perfect, Scotty Cranmer is Superman.

    • @nowondr
      @nowondr 2 роки тому

      @@trevorjrhardy since he moved to Florida and got sponsored they grew apart. Bigboy started his own channel and started bailing on stuff with scotty. He wanted to do his own thing and it rubbed scotty the wrong way. I listened to both sides and I see where both of them are coming from. But basically scotty wanted bigboy to stay a main member and help out with his channel, and bigboy wanted to start his own. This and the fact that they now live far apart caused a rift. They have both stated that there is no hard feelings but they don't get along like they used to anymore. Its extra awkward because bigboy is closer with trey now who is married to scottys sister. Money and each of their personal desires kinda got in the way of the friendship. Hoping they can make up but whenever they talk about eachother nowadays it's always about how people grow apart. Sad tho

    As a cyclist I really resonate with Scotty Cramer and the horrible accident he experienced.
    My short story is in 2017 I was slammed by a car going 40 mph and some how I survived. The dr. Said my helmet is what saved my life. I also could not wate to get back on my bike and not 2 days after I was cleared by the physical therapist. I was already riding like nothing had happened.
    This was a great episode into the life of Scotty C.

      Yeah. I know it's automatically generated but in the subtitles he's just "cameraman" and it's a little sad. But to be fair there was no emphasis on any of the other guys either, and Big Boy can be seen quite a few times (you can see him about the same percentage as he was behind/in front of the camera on the channel after Scotty's accident) so it's not like he was erased from history. As I see this short film was directed to be about Scotty and nobody else.

Still a bit sad Alex wasn't present in any clips other than in voice, since he was such a big presence in the channel and in Scotty's life at the time. But heartwarming nonetheless.
